A general gauge of algal growth is the daily darkening color as the cells multiply. A more accurate measure of growth can be made by comparing actual cell numbers with the previous day's count. These slides are available from scientific or medical supply stores and come with instructions. To use the hemacytometer, place a pipet filled with a sample from the culture tank against the "V" groove of the slide (a cover slip must be in place). Wait about five minutes for the cells to drift onto the grid. The grid area resembles the pound symbol (#) inside a square border so that there are nine equal squares. Divide this number by four, for an average, and multiply by 10,000 (hemacytometer volume factor). The product is equal to the number of cells per mL in the sample. Motile algae like I. galbana, must be killed before counting. A weak toxin such as acetic acid or ethanol may be used (one drop into 20-30 mLs of algal sample). Dense cultures (>3 million) should be diluted 1:10 to facilitate counting and to reduce error. Remember to multiply by 10 (for a 10:l dilution) or by the appropriate correction factor if a different dilution is made. There are numerous other methods to quantify algal densities, however using a microscope and hemacytometer, will reveal the presence of biological contaminants. so what i'm really asking is what algae is the best and cheepest to grow and how can i take a laser and help grow them! How do I get dental treatment in Australia after a dentist in an Asian country has malevolently, and without motive, injured and wrecked my teeth with a dental laser, which was substituted instead of other stated equipment? Do I tell dentists or not? The problem is the damage is hard to disguise. It can only be abuse from a dental laser. I'm frightened dental insurance companies will warn Aussie dentists off. Are dentists rewarded if they report information about malpractice to an insurance company? This is not intended to stir up dental and medical practitioners who automatically attack any claims of malpractice. I really need treatment so please just answer my question genuinely and don't start the type of defensive, abusive comments any questions of malpractice tends to give rise to. I will need teeth, bones, gums and jaw treatment, but would have to tell a specialist how the damage was done and then they will just track it on databases to me, right? more

I am currently employed with a degree in Optical Technology, and have 11 yrs work experience. Of this, I have 6 yrs experience specializing in customer telecom and datacom applications, with optical modules. I want to change career path, to become a medical devices/instrumentation consultant. I want to develop product specs, and consult with doctors/surgeons on requirements for medical monitoring and surgical equipment, then deliver this to engineering.
