Resolved Question: Do I have grounds to sue the Hospital and Doctor. They knocked my crowns out and chipped one of my teeth?
While it has been my good fortune to find a good Dr. and benefit from his talent as a foot surgeon; I had the unfortunate experience of malpractice, at the hands of the accompanying anesthesiologist. On 3/23/10, I entered a outpatient Medical Clinic with the full expectation of having a second successful foot operation by my Dr. When I regained consciousness after the surgery, it seems I had been entered involuntarily and unsuccessfully into a championship prize fight with Mike Tyson and had my two front permanent crowns knocked out. I'm just kidding about the fight.
The nurse standing beside my bed with a small cup containing my crowns informed me that I had supposedly bit down on the green standard oral airway she had in her other hand. I know this piece of equipment very well, you see I was trained on how to use it as a US Army Medic. I examined it and didn’t see any embedded teeth marks were my teeth would have bit down on it to have caused this type of damage, so I immediately thought that my dentist must have done a lousy job putting these crowns in. She told me they were the best and would last five years. I am Lucky enough to be a Black Jack Pit Boss and a part time SAG Actor, so my two front teeth are very important in my line of work.
So,I got up from the post-op bed, told my friend to take me directly to the dentist office. When I arrived at the dental office minutes later, I gave them the cup of teeth and proceeded to read them the riot act about doing faulty dental work and told the dentist I demanded to have new crowns put in and not one red cent charged to my account.
I must say to her credit, she came back brain cells on full throttle and said lets take a look and sat me in the chair, took x-rays and discovered that my tooth was now chipped and the crowns were not split in half but missing the backs, because the backs were still on the numbs in my mouth. It was explained, if you had bit down, your teeth would be split in half like a cracked sunflower seed. The reason the backs of your crowns are still stuck to the back of your teeth is because they were forcefully pushed in from the front.
I thought what a detective you would make, needless to say I was man enough to stand there and apologized in front of that whole staff. They were gracious enough to give me an out and said your still under the anesthesia, but who wouldn’t be outraged.
My mother( R.N., B.S.N.)was the runner-up oncology nurse of the year three years ago. At her funeral a nurse stepped up to the podium and said, you don’t know me, but I want you to know what kind of a person let alone professional , your mother was; while training me on patient care we were leaving a patients room and mom commended me on technique and then asked me what color was the patients hair. She would always say to us that healing isn't always in the medicine.
I told the anesthesiologist that my grandfather died at the hands of alcoholic anesthesiologist during a simple tendon repair operation, so I would appreciate it if he would take extra care during the procedure. Obviously, he wasn’t listening.
I have personally spoken to patient relations and Quality Risk Management. When I spoke to Patient Relations originally right after the operation, they relayed the facts about my teeth to Risk Management and they said ,to have me have my dentist forward the bill to her.
As of March 30, 2010,Risk Management has had a change of mind and decided not to pay $2645.00 to replace my permanent crowns. Know I feel like I have been abused and gone way past the point of civility.
I now want $2700.00 for the crown replacement and $4800.00 for the malpractice of chipping my tooth not to mention their corporate arrogance, insensitivity toward me the patient and covering up the Dr.'s false statement. I am going to send a compliant to the medical board of california. I want to know how to file for malpractice on him without a lawyer also.

Hello,
I would like to put together the ultimate first-aid kit. What equipment should I include? Exclude? I plan on getting the Pelican 1550EMS case to store everything in, but would like to hear other opinions. I am not hiking with the kit, so it doesn't need to be light weight. It will be used at home, in car, on boat.
What I have thought of so far:

moreResolved Question: Donated Cars, Donated Equipment, Charities, And Foundations In Austin, Texas?
I have for quite some time trying to reach out for help, and pleading that someone might have a kind heart and generosity in their soul. I am a 64 year old disabled woman, who happens to have Fibromyalsia. Because I have to rely on Social Security Disability, extra funds are out of the question.I am also the single mom of a wonderful son, who happens to have Cerebral Palsy, and is severely mentally retarded. We have been a team for many years now, and will continue to do so.We are in desperate need of a donated car, DEPENDABLE and RELIABLE is a must. I have to walk everywhere with a cane, and there are many times it is difficult. I am also a cancer survivor, 7 years now, ever so grateful to be here. I've tried all organizations that say they donate cars, including freecharitycars.org, but have had no success. I even tried writing a letter to Michael and Susan Dell Foundation, no success there either. They help others on a very large and grand scale, and quite generous. They are good people. Michael Dell is also the founder of Dell Computers,....a gifted and intelligent man.Since I am just one singular person, I have fallen through the cracks, so I have been very unsuccessful in getting help from their foundation. I have tried everything, and every charitable organization and just keep running into walls.
Here's what I am trying to do,...I am a photographer, and quite good at it. I have a Nikon D5000, and a beauty it is. Of course there are accessories I could use, would improve my work tremendously, but they are not free. I make a couple of bucks here and there, for me and my son. Portrait and candid shots, videos for family celebrations, and the such. I could offer so much more, but I need help. I am desperate for a workhorse of a computer, big hard drive and tons of memory; for film and video editing, this is a must. I have access to fantastic software, but I need a computer that works well and steadily. I could go so much further with my work if I had reliable transportation. Can't very well propose a job, and be able to deliver and get there.
Here in Austin, there is a wonderful organization called ClearChoice.com, it's a dental care organization, the talented dentists who run this place is Dr.Roberto Velasco, DDS and Dr. Todd Eggleston, DMD. After my cancer, I had very few teeth left, my gums were inflamed, so I became toothless. At that time I did get dentures, pretty ones at that. In the time that has passed, the gums has shrunk severely and I cannot wear the dentures, no matter what I do.Clear choice offers services that could keep the dentures in place and position, and not move anywhere and everywhere they may very well please. Going for meetings or proposals is out of the question,....tough to come across as presentable when you are toothless,....also difficult to understand in a conversation. I want to do my work, and look after my wonderful son, but I need help.
Hasn't anyone out there been in a similar position, and someone offered a helping hand?
moreVoting Question: Would you like to share your knowledge or experience as a dentist/dental therapist?
I am a dental therapist working in Malaysia. But here we are called dental nurse instead of therapist. Currently no male nurse yet :) As a dental nurse our duties is to treat patients under 18 years old. We give oral health educations to the kids and treatments including restoration for both deciduous and permanent teeth, sealants, fluoride therapy, extraction for deciduous teeth. In certain area the nurses are given the training for permanent tooth extraction due to lack of dentist. We don't take radiographs or do pulpotomies like what I read in Wikipedia. We work at clinics, school based clinics and in mobile dental service or MDS.
We have a very challenging work environment here especially the MDS team that visit rural areas and use obsolete equipments like micromotors. Some areas do not have electricity so we use generators and have to stay there like a week. MDS team usually visit 30 schools and more for a year and treat all the schoolchildren. Hot weather no air-cond and carrying, packing heavy stuffs around. Treatments at school based clinics and MDS are free because we work for the government.

moreResolved Question: help! I'm starting to really hate my co-worker. I get along with all but her.?
So I started working for a dental office and really like it here, the staff the Dr's are all great. BUT ONE!!! She just had a baby about two months ago. Ever since she has been back at work she has been pin pointing everything I have done. EX; we have tubs that we carry to each room we are have a treatment done. So I fixed up every room to have all the needed equipment so we don’t have to keep getting up. WEll when she got back, she got upset and went to the dr...Saying things will expire and so on. She reorganized all that I have done. And now it's just a big box with Instruments everywhere, you can't find anything on a whim.
So when I went on my review the Dr. said that my co-working says I am rude to her (I don’t think I’m rude I just don't talk to her much because she is hard to like by what she does) she also told the dr. that I am loosing 100s of $ in equipment or breaking it. When I started working there stuff was already broken. I even fixed a few things, but it seems like the Dr. believes everything she says. (They hired two girls who know nothing about dentistry to train....so you don’t think that maybe just maybe they lost a few things since they don't know)
So this is my deal....since I know the Dr Listens to her since she is the only one who makes everyone look bad. I can't change her or the Dr. So I need to change me!!!! AUGH!!!! oh yeah one more thing...she asked to have a day off a week to be with her baby...so now she takes 20min lunches comes in early...leaves late. (does nothing for the office at this time...really nothing, just walking up and down while the rest of us are with PT) so now she gets paid all this overtime to make up for the day she doesn't work.
Oh please lord help me!! Because I’m about to go off!!! I have been doing this for 9 years!!! I think I know what $&!* not to toss in the trash. And how could I break something that I don’t even use!
So with that said!!! Can someone please help me to change me!!! I hate that I can talk and get along with everyone but not her!!!Well since you think you know me "the Wife" then why is it that all the other girls who have been there longer then her said and feel the same way I do! And why would the DR. tell me that she know's how she can be...and that she doesn't think that It's right that I am the the one to stay late all the time vs her.
So your telling me that just because she has been ther two years, she can cheat the Dr on her time sch. and Keep all rooms and the Lab a big mess! She is not a friendly person OKAY! when she was on her Leave, Patients even told me that they are glad they got me and let her go! I Had to tell them she is on Leave and coming back. I can take people being in authourity over me! what I cant take is people who Cheat, Lie, and steal for their own benifit! I perosnaly think that she saw what I can bring to the office and how well we ALL work together and get along. I'm telling you I like things organized and In order to make the office run smooth. she likes it messy!! okay Wife!!!

moreVoting Question: Is there a case for a dental lawsuit here?
I have been seeing a dentist to have some fillings completed. I went to an appointment and was informed that my previous dentist was no longer there due to change of management. One of the new dentists at the office came in and talked to me and confirmed that I needed 2 fillings done that day. After she left, I sat for a while. Another new dentist came back and, without any examination, he said due to the size of the cavity, we needed to do a crown. He also said that they had this expensive piece of equipment on site that no one used before to make a crown. So I agreed to the crown since I trusted the dentists opinion. He put the crown on and to adjust my bite, rather than grinding down the tooth with the crown, he ground down on my upper tooth without any anesthesia. After this procedure, I was in so much pain, I was not able to return to work. This pain continued the next day and it was so intense, my boss at work referred me to her dentist. I received an emergency appointment that day to get a 2nd opinion and the dentist there said that he is not a fan of what I got, which is a 3/4 overlay. He adjusted my bite of the tooth with the overlay to see if that helped with the pain and sensitivity. After 4 days, the pain was still consistent, so I called the new dentist again and he said that due to the damage from the 3/4 overlay, I now need a root canal and a full crown, which I am unable to afford since the original 3/4 overlay used up all my health insurance. After talking to friends and family and my new dentist, it seems like the 3/4 overlay procedure was unnecessary and a regular filling would have worked. The dentist that put the 3/4 overlay on wanted me to come back to do another 3/4 overlay where my very first dentist only recommended a basic filling. After getting the 2nd opinion at the new dentist, he said that the proposed 3/4 overlay was not necessary and that a filling will work there.

According to Dr. Theresa Flores Geary and Debra Whalen, authors of "The Bead Bible", dental floss is great for beading. I was surprised to read this, since I always considered dental floss an amateur piece of beading equipment. I gave it a try because the book claimed the wax made it sturdy for holding beads - it really doesn't work for me; not one, two, or even three strands at a time; it's very flimsy. Does anyone else use dental floss for beading, and does it work for you?Oh Leif, unfortunately, I don't sew; but thanks for the tip.
moreResolved Question: Real accurate Hepatitis C information?
I was reading alot of posts on here even from some people who claim to be "medical students" that are spreading incorrect information about this disease. Having contracted hep c through a blood transfusion I have done alot of research and here is some. I hope this helps:
Transmission
Several activities and practices were initially identified as potential sources of exposure to the hepatitis C virus. More recent studies question this route of transmission. Currently it is felt to be a means of rare transmission of hepatitis C infection.
Injection drug use
Those who currently use or have used drug injection as their delivery route for illicit drugs are at increased risk for getting hepatitis C because they may be sharing needles or other drug paraphernalia (includes cookers, cotton, spoons, water, etc.), which may be contaminated with HCV-infected blood. An estimated 60% to 80% of intravenous recreational drug users in the United States have been infected with HCV.[11] Harm reduction strategies are encouraged in many countries to reduce the spread of hepatitis C, through education, provision of clean needles and syringes, and safer injecting techniques. For reasons that are not clear transmission by this route currently appears to be declining in the US.
Drug use by nasal inhalation (Drugs that are "snorted")
Transmission of HCV is possible through the nasal inhalation (insuffulation) of drugs when straws (containing even trace amounts of mucus and blood) are shared among users.[12]
Blood products
Blood transfusion, blood products, or organ transplantation prior to implementation of HCV screening (in the U.S., this would refer to procedures prior to 1992) is a decreasing risk factor for hepatitis C.
The virus was first isolated in 1989 and reliable tests to screen for the virus were not available until 1992. Therefore, those who received blood or blood products prior to the implementation of screening the blood supply for HCV may have been exposed to the virus. Blood products include clotting factors (taken by hemophiliacs), immunoglobulin, Rhogam, platelets, and plasma. In 2001, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the risk of HCV infection from a unit of transfused blood in the United States is less than one per million transfused units.
Iatrogenic medical or dental exposure
People can be exposed to HCV via inadequately or improperly sterilized medical or dental equipment. Equipment that may harbor contaminated blood if improperly sterilized includes needles or syringes, hemodialysis equipment, oral hygiene instruments, and jet air guns, etc. Scrupulous use of appropriate sterilization techniques and proper disposal of used equipment can reduce the risk of iatrogenic exposure to HCV to virtually zero.
Occupational exposure to blood
Medical and dental personnel, first responders (e.g., firefighters, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, law enforcement officers), and military combat personnel can be exposed to HCV through accidental exposure to blood through accidental needlesticks or blood spatter to the eyes or open wounds. Universal precautions to protect against such accidental exposures significantly reduce the risk of exposure to HCV.
Recreational exposure to blood
Contact sports and other activities, such as "slam dancing" that may result in accidental blood-to-blood exposure are potential sources of exposure to HCV.[13]
Sexual exposure
Sexual transmission of HCV is considered to be rare. Studies show the risk of sexual transmission in heterosexual, monogamous relationships is extremely rare or even null.[14][15] The CDC does not recommend the use of condoms between long-term monogamous discordant couples (where one partner is positive and the other is negative).[16] However, because of the high prevalence of hepatitis C, this small risk may translate into a non-trivial number of cases transmitted by sexual routes. Vaginal penetrative sex is believed to have a lower risk of transmission than sexual practices that involve higher levels of trauma to anogenital mucosa (anal penetrative sex, fisting, use of sex toys).[17]
Body piercings and tattoos
Tattooing dyes, ink pots, stylets and piercing implements can transmit HCV-infected blood from one person to another if proper sterilization techniques are not followed. Tattoos or piercings performed before the mid 1980s, "underground," or non-professionally are of particular concern since sterile techniques in such settings may have been or be insufficient to prevent disease. Despite these risks, it is rare for tattoos to be directly associated with HCV infection and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's position on this subject states that, "no data exist in the United States indicating that persons with exposures to tattooing alone are at increased risk for HCV infection."[18]

I have been with my present employer for 2.5 years. I have been a mechanic up until now. I got promoted to shop manager about 2 or 3 months ago. I am presently negotiating my salary and benefits, and just want some opinions.
Last year I grossed 48,700. This included about 300 hours of overtime. What they are offering now is 46,000 a year, with the possibility of up to a $4000 bonus. I don't carry medical through the company, get that from the wife. I do use our dental plan to double our dental coverage. The claim that management is making is that since they added another mechanic (to replace me) and a shop helper, that I won't have to put in as many hours. What they fail to notice is that they have added 10 trucks, 4 trailers, and about a dozen other pieces of equipment to maintain, as well as the fact that I don't just run the shop, I still pull wrenches about 30-40% of the time. I just don't think it makes any sense to accept less money for more headaches, bonus or not. The only other thing that is on the table is whether or not I receive a company vehicle. I don't really need it, and the job doesn't call for a lot of driving, but every other manager, as well as a couple other employees receive them as part of their compensation, and as my figuring goes, that accounts for about an additional $2-3000 per year. So am I being screwed, or am I being unreasonable?
moreResolved Question: Dentists I have a question about sterilization of equipment. Is the following legal?
How do I find out the laws in my state for dental offices? I went to an office today that sterilizes their hygiene instruments loose (not wrapped) and then they store them loose (unwrapped in a drawer) which seems unlawful to me I would think. Because now the instruments are sitting in a drawer loose and exposed to the air, dust, dirt. The CDC recommends not storing instruments loose. And I was wondering is this against the law? Or is it just frown upon but not illegal? Also I am worried that the office employees could mix up the clean and dirt instruments and put dirty loose ones in the drawer since they do not use any bagging or wrapping techniques.
If you could please advice or tell me where I can look up health codes for dental practices. I am not trying to get anyone in trouble I just want to avoid working at a place that might not be following the law.The reason I am concerned is that I have never seen hygiene instruments autoclaved and STORED unwrapped or bagged. Every office I have ever been to (over 20 offices in my state) always bags or wraps their instruments for storage and before they put it in the autoclave.

moreResolved Question: How can I get money for a good cause in Illinois? I'm sure you will agree with me. Please read on.?
My name is Devin Adams-Barton, I work at a Public Aide accepting clinic in Taylorville Illinois. One of very few practices that accepts medic aide for both adults and children around in Illinois. And we do a good job also. We are friendly, compassionate, and very patient with every person who walks in our doors. Dr. Paul Pladziewicz, who is the dentist here has over 28 years in the dental field and has attended/graduated from Northwestern Dental School, University of Massachusetts, and some others. Almost every patient who has come through the doors to date has said something good about him. May it be that he is the best they have ever been to, or that they felt little to no pain at all. And the complements about the office staff are always good also. People have told me that other offices and staff they have been to, or interacted with in the past have been.... not so good.
What I am trying to get at here is how would I (or Dr. Paul) go about getting money from the government for this community service we are offering. Dr. Paul has put almost everything financially that he has into this. Finding a place to use as an office, buying all the instruments, x-ray machines, dental chairs, equipment, and everything else that went into starting up this office.
I'm just looking for help for him and us at the office.
NOT LOOKING FOR DONATIONS OF ANY KIND FROM ANY PRIVATE PERSON.
Dont take this 'question' as a way to ask for money from the readers.
Not at all.
I am just looking for help with this and how to go about it all.
Thank you.
And if anyone asks, "why don't more Dentists accept the public aide card in Illinois?"
It's simple. Public Aide does not pay the full amount for services that a private insurance, or private patient with cash would pay. The Illinois Public Aide office, or whoever takes care of what money goes where in what instance, does not pay enough to Dentists that could just take patients willing to pay cash or have some private insurance pay for it.
It is a large amount that is not paid to Dentists. Thats the reason most Dentists of Illinois do not accept it.
And it is not like pennies less. It is a significant amount less. Sometimes 100's of dollars less.
Once again, thats why most dentists do not accept it.
And the demand for a dentist that does accept it is overwhelming.
Sometimes we get 40 to 60 patients a day here at the office.
I dont know. It is all very confusing sometimes if you do not understand or are not well informed.
So if you want to know more search some facts about it all. Or e-mail me at devinab123@yahoo.com.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you for your responses if any at all.
Thank you.

Paragraph (a) - When the dental surgeon needs to order any solutions or apparatus he hands over a list of them that he needs to his receptionist who writes them up onto an order form so that they can be ordered, the receptionist then gets the cheque signed by the dental surgeon so that they have means of paying for the order.
Paragraph (b) - In the dental surgery they had to sterilise the equipment, this was done by placing them in a sterilised solution and scrubbing them down clean. They are then placed in a sterilised wrapper ready to be used for another patient. These have to be cleaned so that no bacteria is passed within patient to patient.
Paragraph (c) - When the dental surgeon is handling solvents such as blood of the patient they take extra precautions to keep away from the contaminants. To do this they wear smock gloves and goggles.

The Study of Developing the Teaching System of Tele-care and PACS
This research explores to develop a teaching system to simulate the environment of hospital of Tele-care and PACS providing university student equipments and environment to study and practice. First to explore the framework of the simulation system then analysis and develop Tele-care and PACS system based on client server framework where VB.Net is used to develop the system and SQL Server is used as a database. The system simulates the Tele-care and PACS operation in hospital. For Tele-care, the physiological signals (blood pressure、SPO2、temperature、ECG) of the patient can be transmitted by active RFID label on the medical measuring device and be received by an active RFID reader. The RFID reader can then relay the signals to the control center via a network. When the medical personnel find the abnormal signals he/she can confer and confirm the conditions with the patient. For PACS, the image of X-ray, Mammography simulator and Dental X-ray simulator from department of radiological technology is digitized and stored in the SQL Server database in MIS department and then it can be displayed in the view stations in school with installed view station.
The teaching system of Tele-care and PACS can provide the students a good practice environment before to work in the hospital system. They can practise and utilize equipments to familiarize the operation of the PACS more effectively in the teaching system.

So it started when my boyfriend made an ad on craigslist trying to get jobs on the side because there has been literally no work in the last couple of weeks.(he works for a moving company) In the past his boss has known about some of the side jobs he's done,he's even lent him equipment to do so.Well 2 days ago he made the ad on craigslist he included his cell phone #(its a company cell phone). He then received a call from his boss yesterday evening being extremely rude saying "he saw the ad on craigslist" and"you better not be using my fucking truck"(my bf had this whole convo on speaker phone) my bf told him he didn't appreciate the language and tone he was using with him and that he never took the truck(which he didnt)(the one and only job he got off craigslist,he rented his own truck..he has the receipt) Then he told my bf that he was using the company cell phone to solicite business and that he wanted the phone back.My bf told him he was being immature and hung up.Then the boss calls him back to tell him he's fired because now he has witnesses that place him in the work truck when he wasn't working that day.(ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT) what can my boyfriend do? I don't think he should of be fired for this.To me the boss sounds jealous that two guys from his company found work somewhere else. The boss told the other guy who was involved that he was fired because"HE WAS WORKING SIDE JOBS" too bad this other guy doesn't care if hes fired for that. But my bf and i care a lot.We have 2 kids and i was supposed to be using my bf's dental benefits to go to the dentist at the end of this month and now i cant! Is it right he was fired for such nonsense? and what can we do? thanksstanley-the job stated it was FULL TIME which he has in writing. This job hasnt even been PART TIME.I guess his boss breeched the contract too.what contract? no contract says that you can't work for another company while working for one already. The work phone was in his possession 24/7...he was free to call friends and family ,download ring tones and go on the internet(all paid for from the company) No problem! But then he tries to get a side job and its now a big problem? don't think so guys! Its not my bf's JOB to find his bosses company work? The thing is he could of used his home # on the ad but just figured his cell phone would be easier for people to get a hold of himlady-No you can't get fired for no reason.I live in canada guess i should of mentioned that. The reason my bf was fired according to his boss"breech of trust" ..he didn't breech any trust.NON COMPANY STUFF? like using it for calling friends and family? ringing up the bill from using the internet? downloading ring tones? thats non comapny stuff and his boss had no issues with that.Miller -learn how to read a question u idiot. He didn't borrow the truck. He rented TRUCK FROM A TRUCK RENTAL.

I've been playing flute for only one year, but I am one of the best flautists in my high school's symphonic band. I also play the saxophone for our jazz band. I need braces within the next month or two. My friend was very good with the flute when we started, but 3 months later, he got braces, and since then, he has a problem with his tone. I am also considering what type of dental equipment to use (invisalign, braces behind the teeth, etc...) just to ensure good play on my instruments.

moreVoting Question: Is there chance of contracting disease like aids at a scaling procedure at the dentist?
I just went for a dental scaling procedure. The dentist used one of those ultrasonic vibrating tools which gush out water, to remove calculus. There was some blood letting but that kinda normal in such a procedure I guess. Although I was the only one there that evening and the dentist did assure me that her equipment was sterilized I'm still worried on the worst case scenario like - is it remotely possible for an individual to contract aids or Hepatitis from a scaling procedure at a dentist.
Or am I getting all worried for nothing. I would appreciate a really detailed answer here :(Uh..when I mean risk of transmission I'm referring to risk of transmission from tools used in a dental scaling procedure :|Hmm I think Im a bit too paranoid here anyway. I just went and asked the lovely dental assistant casually on what kind of precautions they took and she said that after every patient she'd wash the instruments used with soap and sterilize it in an 'autoclav' for 45 minutes. OK I have no idea of what that is but it seemed to sound like there was nothing to worry about - anyone with a dental or medical background here who could enlighten me on this issue?
moreResolved Question: Accidental Injury To Pet By Vet - How To Know If I Should Be Compensated?
Not long ago, our two dogs underwent routine dental cleaning procedures at our vet, whom we have been with for almost 2 years. The procedure required that the dogs be put under general anesthesia for the procedure.
Part of being under the general anesthesia, and recovery from, was the use of an electric heating pad to keep the dogs warm. Several days following the dental cleaning, I was petting my Beagle and felt a raised aread on her side, under her fur. I used a safe electric razor (my Husband's Remington) to remove the fur and see if she has developed some type of eczema or other skin rash. The appearance was unusual, so I took her to the vet the next day.
They examined the "lesion" and did a "skin scrape" to test for fungus or bacteria. None were present. We were sent home with a prescription cream to soothe the lesion and were told that the area would begin to scab over and slowly peel off in a day or two - it was diagnosed as "cellulitis."
Over a week went by, and our Beagle spent most of this time quite on edge. I called the vet's office one day, to discuss the "lesion" and let them know it was not healing, but rather peeling and bleeding. The vet assistant started talking about how this is a typical process for a thermal burn as it heals...
A thermal burn???!! No one had told me this was a thermal burn. I found out that other dogs who had dental cleanings or surgeries that same day as us, also began to show up at the vet's office with the exact same symptoms - we just happened to be the first - and that it was quickly determined that the injury was a thermal burn caused by a faulty heating pad. Somehow, during all this time, we were the only patients that the vet failed to notify of the true diagnosis and its origin.
Needless to say I am very upset, thinking of the poking and prodding, the skin scraping, etc., that they did on DaisyLu before they knew it was a bad thermal burn. The office quickly and appropriately reimbursed me for any expenses (office visits, meds, etc.) that were related to treatment of this burn. They also offered to provide hydrotherapy sessions daily, which I elected to do at home, since the drive once a day for two weeks would be difficult. They were also quick to prescribe pain medication, which she had none of during the time this burn was fresh on her skin.
Unfortunately, the area of the thermal burn has left DaisyLu bald - there is no hair regrowth and it's merely a visible bald spot on her side. It is about the shape and size of a souvineer penny you might get out of one of those machines at an amusement park.
DaisyLu is a pure breed AKC Beagle, but we do not and will not ever use her in any competitions where cosmetic appearance is necessary. But, even though this is the case, would we be "greedy" to think that such permanent cosmetic damage, as well as any suffering DaisyLu went though, is worthy of monetary damages/compensation?
Please, answer with honesty. Don't just supply a careless answer for 2 pts. I really like our vet, but I want what is right for our Beagle since she is family and she does have rights of her own. Equipment goes faulty at any time. And the vet did right by not charging for any visits, services or meds related to this injury. I guess the question is, did the vet do enough to "right" this accident?Thank you for your answer. Could you please supply your sources for this information? Greatly appreciated.

moreResolved Question: High Blood Pressure at Dentist - Normal at Home.?
My last visit to the dentist office my blood pressure was 174/101, 186/107, 182/102. Using a digital BP monitor from CVS drugstore, my BP was 130/78 about 30 minutes prior to going to the dentist.
After leaving the dentist office (about 20 minutes), my BP measured 155/97. 15 minutes later it was 130/84.
A week prior to going to the dentist my BP measured in the 120/78 to 135/97 range.
The dentist would not extract my teeth because of this high reading and stated my home monitor may not be accurate. Are store bought monitors that inaccurate?
I'm thinking it's not because the dental tech took his BP twice and got 154/97 and 226/145! The dental office still maintains that they used the equipment all morning with no problems.
Also, my daughter's BP showed normal (117/77) using our home BP monitor.
Anyone have similar BP issues in the dentist office? I am very confused at this point.
Thanks

Hi,
I just went to see the dentist on a tooth with an old filling. There was periodic dulling ache and sharp pain. Not particularly painful when chewing. He checked the tooth physically, said that the tooth was well fitted (no leakage), no decay/cracks on surface and unlikely to have decay or crack under the filling. When he used his dental equipment to "blow" some air on the tooth, he said that the sensitivity is due to expose dentine. Probably would go away with usage of MI Paste (which he prescribed me)
But till now the dulling ache hasn't went away after using it for 2 weeks.
Probably the dentist is consevative in his approach, but he saw no need to remove the filling to inspect.
Should i seek out a second opinion to remove the oil filling to check? I had a past history of grinding and had cracked a tooth b4 (it was a hairline crack, not visible from tooth surface which i went to 5 dentists b4 a root canal specialist managed to confirm its a cracked tooth)i'm already using a mouth guard for my grinding problem.
as for the type of filling, its amalgam, but there are no signs of cracks upon physical examination at the old fillingmy previous cracked tooth wasn't splited, it was cracked. crowning solved the problem (without root canal)

moreVoting Question: DSL using USB?
We have 8 machines networked together in a dental office. One of those machines we use as a server. We had DSL installed last week and they changed all of the settings to "Obtain IP address automatically" After re rebooted the remote machines we had a difficult time finding our mapped network drive. But I cant connect to the internet using the ethernet cable. I did some checking around and was told that the server should have a static IP address. I changed it back to a static address and everything works fine now as far as accessing the network drive, which all machines MUST do. What Id like to know is, can I have the DSL modem connected to more than one machine using the USB cable instead of the ethernet cable. I could see how one machine could use USB for access to the web, but I'm wondering if a USB hub will allow more than one machine to go online? If not a hub, then some other piece of equipment
moreResolved Question: What type and brand of disinfectants do hospitals use to disinfect their medical equipments?
Hi, I need to know what are the disinfectants (brand and type) that hospitals and dental offices use to disinfect their medical equipment and surfaces and so on? Maybe there's a place that they all buy their products from? Any idea where I should start my research?
I appreciate any input. :)
