Resolved Question: too old for something like work experience?

I have a disability, spina bifida, and use a wheelchair, and ive basically never had a job. due to various things. some my fault, some out of my control. but now, im looking for something, ive basically had enough of not getting something out of life and not feeling a sense of purpose. like many people with disabilities, but due to the disability and never having worked i feel like i need to sort of prove to employers, and myself, that im capable of doing the kind of thing id like to try to get into. I recently decided a good area to work in would be something to do with medical/disability products/equipment/supplies/aids etc as, like i said im disabled myself, but obviosuly not on the medical side of things, it would be in a non degree requiring role. im thinking more on the sales, or storage and supplies side at my local hospital or something. and when i say medical supplies i dont just mean medical, i mean anything and everything you might find in a hospital. i found myself, last time i was on a hospital visit, looking at all the different things in the hospital, its a huge range of stuff, and i think it would be an interesting, varied job to work in that area. but as i i said because ive not had a job i feel the need to first show employers and myself that im capable, but the thing is, im 35 now, i just cant help thinking its a bit late for voluntary or work experience. would the NHS or anything like that be prepared to allow me to do something like voluntary or work experience as a way in? im more than prepared to to prove myself. more

Resolved Question: Jobs that involve making lists of things?

Any ideas? preferably something that doesnt require a degree or ten, cos i havent got one, although i am prepared if possible to study towards one whilst working. Im a bit of a list writing geek, ive done lists (or spreadsheets) of things like my cd and dvd collections, books, comics, all sorts of stuff, and im wondering about using this skill as a possibility for work. I have also recently decided a good area to work in would be something to do with medical/disability products/equipment/supplies/aids etc., as im disabled myself, and when i say medical supplies i dont just mean medical, i mean anything and everything you might find in a hospital. i found myself, last time i was on a hospital visit, looking at all the different things in the hospital, its a huge range of stuff, and i think it would be an interesting, varied job to work in that area. but could the two be combined in some way? All i can think of really is working in the stores/distribution department of the local hospital, which would be good, but wanted more ideas. more

Resolved Question: what kind of jobs are available in?

the medical/disability equipment/products/ability aids/supplies industry that dont require a degree? I have a disability, spina bifida, and i use a wheelchair, and since the government are now targeting disabled people even if they are not capable of work and making them look for work i have looked into things i'd like to do (if i had the choice), trying to beat the government at their own game and jumping before im pushed, and this industry really appeals. Ive spent my life around hospitals, doctors surgeries, podietrists etc and it sounds a bit sad but ive always been interested by the equipment and products i see, so ive decided thats what i want to get into, but as i said i dont have a degree (yet, i am prepared to work and study towards one at the same time though) I was just thinking working in the stores/supplies department of my local hospital would be a good way in as thousands of different products are stored in these places so i think it would be a good place to learn about them. and as i get DLA and hope to get tax credits too i dont mind (not that i would have the choice anyway) of taking a low paid job. Any suggestions on this would be much appreciated, i really want to get going with this like NOW lolI should also mention im not keen on a desk job,not one thats all day every day anyway, being a wheelchair user doesnt mean you cant move around, more

Resolved Question: Went To HVAC School. I Need Some Related Careers Fields Using My Skills!?

I graduated top of my class at a heating & air conditioning school and am not having much luck in finding employement. Well, I did manage a job as a commercial/residential service tech but got the feeling I was being used during the busy hot weather as a strong back to install air conditioners. I wasn't trained to just install units. Anybody can do that. I've been trained to troubleshoot, fix, and adjust heating and air conditioning equipment. I don't mind doing install work, but not if they are going to get rid of me once the busy season ends with no plans to groom me into being a service tech. For that reason I'm back in the market looking for a job in this or a related field. HVAC involves everything from electronics, troubleshooting, plumbing, brazing, electrical work, and a few other fields. I feel my certifications (EPA Refrigerant Licence, ARI Certification, Boilers License, etc) should be able to help me get my foot in the door at doing HVAC at a factory or complex, but I also feel it could get me a job in something related, such as Solar Energy, factory production machine maintenance/troubleshooting, perhaps a hospital or other facility with my boiler's license or at least to assist an electrician and repair things as well. I might add that I can solder and read schematics well down to the component (resistors, etc) level that they don't even teach in HVAC. Still, I need ideas here in this job market! So use your imagination and tell me what fields could use my skills and qualifications. I'm desperate for a job and often it's right under your nose but you don't see it. You can help change my life by giving me some ideas because I'm at my wits end here in this job market and money is running out! Think outside the box! Anything that involves repair, replacement, or diagnosing problems with electrical products (I'm not talking VCRs or TVs here), or any other ideas. Please help! more

Voting Question: Should I seek the help of a podiatrist?

About two weeks ago, I dropped a laptop on my right foot. I could not bear any weight on the foot at all. So I had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. The doctor in the ER said that the x-ray came back normal and wrapped the foot up and sent me home. He gave me a walker, ped shoe (soft shoe with velcro straps) and motrin. He told me to stay off the foot and apply ice and take motrin. I have done all that and the foot is still slightly swollen with a big knot on top of the foot where the laptop landed. The pain is still pretty bad but the bruising has healed. I still have to wrap my foot in an ace bandage when walking and I'm using my running shoes for everything. I can't fit my foot in a regular shoe at all. The swelling is worse at night and the foot is painful. I'm still using elevation and ice for pain. I'm concerned that the ER doctor didn't examine the x-ray films properly. My friend who is a nurse said that I need to follow up with a podiatrist and have them xray the foot again. I've had a large piece of equipment used in nursing homes to lift patients into bed roll over my foot. The foot healed in just a few days. I heal really fast, but this one isn't healing well at all. Should I be concerned that the ER doctor misdiagnosed my foot injury and to see a podiatrist just to be safe? Thanks for your help. more

Resolved Question: Has anyone had a CT Scan/body and CT Scan/Head? How much was your bill?

I was invloved in an acident and they performed CT Scans and I was released from the hospital the same day. Then I get a bill from the hospital and they charge me $15,991 for a CT Scan/Body and another charge for $3,982.00 for a CT Scan/Head. Not to mention I receive a separate bill for $394.00 for CT Neck spine without DYE and CT Chest without DYE. Not understanding that bill because I know in fact that they did use DYE(contrast). What the heck is the $15,991 all about I might as well own the CT Scan equipment. more

Resolved Question: Sue a hospital for experimentation?

know of someone who's father approached a hospital to get his eyes checked. He was given some equipment; to be used everyday for 'exercise'. it turns out to be some experimental stuff when the patient only had a cataract. The expenses were paid for by the patient's work place. Can the hospital be sued? by whom? who is to be approached for this? (P.S. This is in India) more

Voting Question: Abusive Mother who is Aging and still Abusive?

I was adopted and made to work on a farm. I was the only child. Growing up all I heard was that I was taking food out of their mouth, that I would be sent back if I didn't behave and do the work I was told to. They always borrowed farm equipment and didn't pay their bills for a year. As soon as I was old enough, I started buying junk farm equipment to fix so they would quit borrowing stuff. Over the years, I had to buy them furniture, ac units, and spent tens of thousand of dollars bailing hay for them for free and keeping them supplied in equipment. I finally got married at 40 and my mother did everything she could to stop it. The land I was promised after working the place all those years was withheld. They wouldn't even give me 1 acre to build a house on. They were in their 70's when I married so I just shrugged and said keep everything and left and bought my own land in the community. 15 years have passed and she complains to everyone in the small community about us and how she lives alone. We got her a $7,000 grant to fix her house, got her a medical alert button, arranged to have meds delivered to her house and a government van that will pick her up and take her to doctor appointments or grocery store. She _itches to everyone that will listen how we don't help her. My wife is the one that arranged all this help for her. We are paying off our land and house and can't take off to take her to appointments when their is transportation. Now, I am sick with stage 4 cancer, I don't have long to live, and she goes weeks without calling how I am. Now she is bitching at my wife for not telling her I was in the hospital. I have been hospitalized at least 9 times in the past 2 years. She has been told I am getting worse and to call more often if she wants to know how I am doing. My wife is either travelling to the hospital or nursing me at home or taking me to doctors appointments. My wife has told her she needs to call more often, that things are changing rapidly. She has not called and I am mad she is bitching at my wife, who has a full plate. With the abuse I endured as a child, I don't have much love for this woman and figure if she can't call, its no loss to me. But she is using the situation to get attention. She lives 10 minutes from me but won't visit. But now she is telling relatives and friends in this small community my wife is keeping her from visiting. I had it out with my mother and told her if she wants to know how I'm doing, just call. She claims it is too hard to call in the evenings and she forgets in the morning. Now she has a relative that wants to take her to come visit me in the hospital and I told them to wait till I get home. The relative is pissed at me for being mean to my mom. My mom puts on an act to get attention. In the past people were fooled by her act and helped her, only to hear thru a third party her complaints about them. One lady took her to the doctor, got her meds, took her to lunch, but made the"mistake" at stopping at HEB for a few groceries for herself. My mom complained to everyone, now that lady doesn't come around. My wife use to help her alot too but got tired of the complaining. We lost our business when I got sick, sold most of our farm equipment, and are holding on by the skin of our teeth to our house. This last incident has made me really bitter towards my Mom. I'm not well enough to protect my wife from this abuse that I put up with for too long. ANY IDEAS HOW TO PUT A STOP TO THIS? more

Resolved Question: What should Joe Jackson tell Michael's kids after Joe helps Conrad Murray go free?

Michael met and hired Conrad Murray in Vegas in 2006 to treat Michael's sick kids. AEG claims Michael insisted Murray be paid $5 million to be his personal doctor in London. In a TV interview, Frank Dileo, Michael's manager at the time seems to back up what AEG is claiming, that it was strictly Jackson's insistence to bring Murray to London and AEG thought $5 million was excessive for one doctor. Dileo told Jackson: "Michael, for $5 million I'll buy you a hospital". Now Joe Jackson has filed documents to the California Medical Board (this is legit and on record) accusing AEG Live of hiring Conrad Murray to medicate Jackson, use dangerous medical services, give Michael Jackson controlled substances and other drugs. Even if Michael couldn't handle 50 concerts, he'd still make them a fortune doing the ones he could. AEG stood to make $450 million if Michael agreed to a world tour. AEG had no reason kill a guy who's going to make them a mega fortune. Dr. Murray is going to walk out of that courtroom a free man. Hopefully someone will shoot him before he can reach his car right after they've put a bullet in Joe Jackson. AEG didn't hire Murray, Michael did and it was no secret and Joe looks idiotic saying so. AEG promised in writing to pay for medical needs required for normal patient care. AEG didn't even want to pay Murray. They'd never agree to the legal liability and possible criminal charges of paying for all the whaky drugs and equipment which ended up killing Michael. My question is what should Joe say to Katherine and Michael's three children after Murray wins his case because of Joe's greed and need to get back at Michael for being left out of the Will? If you don't care or feel the need to post a nasty remark, please just move on to a question that interests you.MJ Jam - I have no idea what you're talking about. I can't even figure out what you're trying to say. more

Resolved Question: Do you like this book plot?

hey, thanks for taking the time to read this, please at the end comment with anything you feel could be improved, any names I might need (seriously, names, surnames especially, are desperately needed), basically anything: The book is a post-apocalypic novel following main protagonist Garret Byrne. It starts with Garret in a Californian University at the end of term, he and childhood friend Chrissie Falconham are preparing to go home to Michigan for the summer. When they arrive, Garret is quickly reminded of his somewhat unhappy childhood, his mother never stopped mourning his sister, who had a grevious disability and died shortly after birth (this becomes more significant later in what I would like to become a series), and his father works for the government and is rarely at home. At this point I would quite like to destroy the world... On the way out of the house one morning, Garret overhears his parents arguing violently in the living room and hears a large "bang" just before he shuts the door, but assumes that someone has simply slammed a door. In the centre of town, he boards a bus, a nervous man with a briefcase coming to sit next to him. The man disembarks, and, after ten minutes or so, Garret realises he has forgotten his briefcase, and, when lifting it onto the seat, he hears a beeping. Then it explodes. Here the book temporarily cuts to third person, depicting a scene where Garret's tattered and torn body repairs itself, until finally, he's fully reformed, but has no memory of anything much before the explosion. He has a flashback of his house, and follows a gut feeling back their, finding the place in ruins, his mother shot dead in what had been the living room, a bullet to the head, a note accompanying her, scratched into a slab of concrete "sorry". He remembers his mother, but has no recallection of anything before (the reader hopefully havin guessed the dad shot her earlier). Garret gathers some clothes he can salvage from the wreck, then begins to wander, looking for anything that might give him an insight into his memory. He finds an old mall that escaped any major damage, and inside it two other survivors, Damon and Mark, Damon, like Garret, seems to have been killed in the explosion, and points out to Garret that the two of them have silver eyes, Damon also knows he can heal rapidly, and shows Garret he can too, by cutting him with a slice of rock. Garret decides to stay with Damon and Mark in the mall. Every day, Garret goes further and further a field, trying to find more things that might jog his memory, but finds nothing. However, one day he discovers what he thinks to be a survivor, but seems instead to be a zombie like thing, which Garret kills when it tries to attack him. When he gets back to the Mall, there are more survivors with Damon and Mark, Siobhan, Iris, Ian and Marianne, who encountered the zombies too. Garret begins remembering more and more trivial things, coming to him in dreams, but can't find anything that might tell him anything important about himself. Then Chrissie arrives with a young girl called Anya, she recognises Garret immediately, but he can't remember her at all. First tho, they have to treat Anya, who was bitten by a zombie when she tried to save Chrissie from one. Garret remembers he used to be a medical student and rushes Anya to a hospital to get equipment, they're waylaid by zombies on the way, but no one is injured and they manage to save Anya, after trying everything possible, Garret sucks the poison out of the wound, going into a feverish coma, as his healing battles with the zombie infection. When he wakes up, he's back at the Mall, Chrissie is sitting with him, and, as he wakes up, he remembers who she is. The two kiss, and Garret staggers out of the makeshift sick bay to find the Mall in chaos, a new group, Warren, Richard and Shane have arrived and Warren has taken over leadership as a selfish, survivalist dictator. Garret confronts him, and Warren shoots Garret, who heals and puts his own pistol to Warrens head, who backs down. Another new girl has also arrived, Leah, and Garret and her immediately have a sort of chemistry, but remain just friends for Chrissies sake. Tensions overflow between Garret and Warren when he finds Warren has been stealing food from the youngest of the group to feed himself, and this ends in a fight, which is interupted by one of the lookouts alerting the group that an enormous horde of zombies is approaching the Mall, whilst preparing, Damon finds Anya outside, walking towards the horde, and it turns out that she is what's been bringing the zombies to them, a venom in the zombie that attacked her acting as a beacon which allows them to find her, she wants to simply let them take her, but Damon, Garret and the others object strongly, keeping her under constant supervision. Ever the survivalist, Warren kills the Owen, who was guarding Anya, and attemI think I may have gone on too long but I need to finish so here goes: Warren kills Anyas guard and tries to kill her too, but is stopped by Garret. However, he has positioned shane away from the chaos, and he takes a shot on Anya, but Chrissie takes the bullet and dies in garret's arms. Damon and Garret beat Warren to a pulp, the others hunting down Shane and Richard. Then, once they are tied up, they prepare to fight with the zombies, but anya has managed to escape, and Garret can only watch as she is devoured, the group battle the zombies but repell them, sustaining many casualties, and the book ends with Garret reading Anyas final message, him and Leah hand in hand, interrupted by a mystery man, revealed in a possible sequel to have worked with Garrets dad, who together orchestrated the whole apocalypse. Anyway, thanks for reading, I had to rush the ending to fit it into one additional detail message but u get the general idea... more

Resolved Question: Lump on neck, urgent care or emergency room?

PLEASE don't tell me to just go to the doctor, that's what I'm trying to do. I have a lump on my neck that grew from nearly nothing to large enough to cause concern nearly overnight and need to figure out my best choice for a first contact. My insurance actually costs less when using urgent care or the emergency department than it does primary care physicians so I'd like to see one of the two. I understand that urgent cares are limited in their equipment but can refer for x-rays and other tests, but Im wondering if I should head to the hospital so that any testing can be done then and there. While this isn't an emergency such as a broken leg or heart attack, this grew from barely visible to something I can see with my hair down nearly overnight and is hurting/tingling. Which will be my best option? I have two small children who have to go everywhere with me and I'd rather reduce their time in waiting rooms and exam rooms as much as possible. more

Resolved Question: Is my brother being tight-fisted especially where is baby is concerned?

He is married and they both have well paid jobs and a house. They have a 7 month old daughter. They had lots of gifts for the baby when they had it,including some new clothing essentials. All their baby equipment were second hand, some which i previously owned including a cradle and a bath. They bought a bag of second hand baby clothes for £10 off someone. My brother thought he had a bargain saying they would be worth £200 new, which i doubted very much. They even had baby clothes from me,sleepsuits etc.I do not think either of them have bought the baby any new clothes since having the baby.As the summer is here i felt she needed some summer clothes that were pretty,as the mother just dressed her in trousers and a t shirt. She was pleased wit what i bought. They now use a cot bed that was previously used for the mother when she was a baby 30 years ago,the only thing new was the mattress. Anyway,i am a single parent of a 21 month old son.I was so overwhelmed with love when having my baby and made sure i bought everything i needed, mostly new clothes, new pram, bath, cradle, moses basket etc. Even a cute baby hat and bootees. Now they never even had a hat for their baby in the hospital like most babies do.Even now where the cot bed is concerned ,the sides are quite low,and i warned my brother about the baby sitting up or standing and falling out.Instead of butying a normal cot with high sides,he has decided to buy some wood and alter the sides to make them higher.I asked why,and he said its all to do with saving money. Its not as if they are in debt or hard up,they spend money on holidays abroad and on furnishings in the house no problem. Now,even though i'm a single parent i still feel it important to buy my child essential toys.Like as a toddler he has a sit in car,Smart Trike and a paddling pool now the summers here, stuff that i felt he needed for his age. When he was about 10 months old my parents bought him a swing. It was only used for a few weeks i remember and put away. He's too big for it now and i was going to sell it.Now today he asked me if he could borrow it for his daughter.I told him he could buy it off me.He straight away pulled a strop and said No,he wanted to use it and give it me back when he'd finished with it.I said i don't need it anymore. He then told me to forget it! He said he doesn't want to be lumbered with stuff and having to get rid of them when he's finished. He said he hates clutter.I asked him if he ever intends to buy his daughter essential toys when she's older, bearing in mind they have a massive garden,i said like a slide, childs swing like most kids have,he said No,they intend to take her to the park instead.Do you think they are both tight fisted where their child is concerned? I can't wait to see when she is old enough to play with toys properly what they will do,especially when shes a toddler and getting into everything and needed to be kept occupied. They don't seem to have a clue.Surely you want the best for your baby, but they don't seem to want that.My brother tells me everything and confides in me alot about things, and i know hes not in debt. His wife is Swiss and comes from a well to do family. My brother did not even want children and they only had this child because of medical advice, she was told if they intended to ever have kids, then the sooner the better. She suffers Endo metriosis. I feel that the toys i have bought for my child, they want to borrow for their child eventually and give them me back rather than buy them off me.Its not like they are hard up for cash.My brother said he don't want cluuter in his house or garden and don't want to hassle of selling stuff either. more

Resolved Question: Did you know the reason for the Centenary Celebration of Coimbatore Govt hospital not coming off and why so..?

The Coimbatore District HQ hospital is severely handicapped without facilities to treat patients pouring in, for long. The ortho and maternity patients are shown lying on floor and people get mats to have their patients lie on, since there are not adequate beds in the hospital. Staff are short, equipments scanty vis a vis demand, maintenance poor... Most of the Dt hospitals are understaffed, with inadequate clinical and therapeutic equiments etc The Dean used to say according to a Press report that everything would be set right before the Centenary function due early this year.. But it never took off!! No funds provided and the Committee set up under a Honble Minister to draw up the Centenary celebration plan did not meet after a few sittings. Meanwhile Govt got busy with the prestigious Tamil Conference to be held in the same city with enormous expenditure!! Many govt schools are also understaffed and under equipped. Not to speak of the resource crunch for any new schools to meet the demand and curb private exploitation.. But the govts are busy with celebrations of sorts. Even a casual visit of the Dy CM to a district resulted in the organisers pooling funds from near by funds starved Panchayats, to make it a gala function!! We commented about Ms Maya madam - CM Uthar pradesh - for wasting enormous funds for erecting statues of Dalit leaders across her state and for celebrating her B day with great fanfare. How can govts in a Welfare state could be so insensitive to the crying needs of people and waste precious resources on pompous wasteful expenses? Is it due to lax role of the Fourth estate to pull up govts effectively? Opposition parties are much disabled due to media indifference to even highlight their protests prominently!! The Bday bash of the CMs find more prominence than the sad state of critical sectors in the state!! what is your hope for the future with such parties in power? The people are also helpless since parties enter into any unholy coalitions with even their ideological adversaries to form mock govts, with combined votes of multiple parties!! Do share your views.Saint Thiruvalluavar says that a king without proper critics to tame him would be spoiled even without an enemy to destroy him: இடிப்பாரை இல்லா எமரா மன்னன்.. (45:448) Are there no one in any party to advise their leaders about the danger of too much self service at the cost of people's welfare..??!!! more

Resolved Question: Can I sue a hospital?

My wife was in the hospital for a knee operation. When it was all done she contracted an infection called cellulitis. Her doctor says it wasn't caused by the operation. Also while she was in the hospital, she was insulted by the patient transporters and some staff. They would take her to therapy without pain meds and tell the staff to put in ear plugs cause she was yelling so loud. At one point one of the transporters told her to be queit because she is scaring the other patients. She hardly got any help when she was laying in bed in pain. There were a few that tried to help. She had to adjust her own equipment, so she can use it. She got herself out of bed on her own to use the bathroom on a number of occasions. She was transported back and forth from the hospital to a rehab quite a few times to fix problems that should have been fixed the first time. One ambulance driver even commented on her weight saying she was to heavy for the gurney. I just need any suggestions..thank you! more

Resolved Question: Do I have grounds to sue the Hospital and Doctor. They knocked my crowns out and chipped one of my teeth?

While it has been my good fortune to find a good Dr. and benefit from his talent as a foot surgeon; I had the unfortunate experience of malpractice, at the hands of the accompanying anesthesiologist. On 3/23/10, I entered a outpatient Medical Clinic with the full expectation of having a second successful foot operation by my Dr. When I regained consciousness after the surgery, it seems I had been entered involuntarily and unsuccessfully into a championship prize fight with Mike Tyson and had my two front permanent crowns knocked out. I'm just kidding about the fight. The nurse standing beside my bed with a small cup containing my crowns informed me that I had supposedly bit down on the green standard oral airway she had in her other hand. I know this piece of equipment very well, you see I was trained on how to use it as a US Army Medic. I examined it and didn’t see any embedded teeth marks were my teeth would have bit down on it to have caused this type of damage, so I immediately thought that my dentist must have done a lousy job putting these crowns in. She told me they were the best and would last five years. I am Lucky enough to be a Black Jack Pit Boss and a part time SAG Actor, so my two front teeth are very important in my line of work. So,I got up from the post-op bed, told my friend to take me directly to the dentist office. When I arrived at the dental office minutes later, I gave them the cup of teeth and proceeded to read them the riot act about doing faulty dental work and told the dentist I demanded to have new crowns put in and not one red cent charged to my account. I must say to her credit, she came back brain cells on full throttle and said lets take a look and sat me in the chair, took x-rays and discovered that my tooth was now chipped and the crowns were not split in half but missing the backs, because the backs were still on the numbs in my mouth. It was explained, if you had bit down, your teeth would be split in half like a cracked sunflower seed. The reason the backs of your crowns are still stuck to the back of your teeth is because they were forcefully pushed in from the front. I thought what a detective you would make, needless to say I was man enough to stand there and apologized in front of that whole staff. They were gracious enough to give me an out and said your still under the anesthesia, but who wouldn’t be outraged. My mother( R.N., B.S.N.)was the runner-up oncology nurse of the year three years ago. At her funeral a nurse stepped up to the podium and said, you don’t know me, but I want you to know what kind of a person let alone professional , your mother was; while training me on patient care we were leaving a patients room and mom commended me on technique and then asked me what color was the patients hair. She would always say to us that healing isn't always in the medicine. I told the anesthesiologist that my grandfather died at the hands of alcoholic anesthesiologist during a simple tendon repair operation, so I would appreciate it if he would take extra care during the procedure. Obviously, he wasn’t listening. I have personally spoken to patient relations and Quality Risk Management. When I spoke to Patient Relations originally right after the operation, they relayed the facts about my teeth to Risk Management and they said ,to have me have my dentist forward the bill to her. As of March 30, 2010,Risk Management has had a change of mind and decided not to pay $2645.00 to replace my permanent crowns. Know I feel like I have been abused and gone way past the point of civility. I now want $2700.00 for the crown replacement and $4800.00 for the malpractice of chipping my tooth not to mention their corporate arrogance, insensitivity toward me the patient and covering up the Dr.'s false statement. I am going to send a compliant to the medical board of california. I want to know how to file for malpractice on him without a lawyer also. more

Resolved Question: Hate the situation I'm in?

I'm getting so seriously depressed/down I don't know what to do... I don't know where I belong or what I feel/want anymore. I'm ue to give birth in 6 weeks and hate our living arrangements. Right now I'm staying with my husband. He has a 2 bed house & his 19yr old son is there too. Originally the stepson had arranged to move to his mums before the baby's born - this was agreed 6 months ago when we married (NOT because of the baby). Then my husband didn't want his son to move and suggested that I move back to my old house till his son left home & there was room for the baby (my house is smaller & needed renovating & I was raped there so hated the place). My husband went abroad on holiday a couple of weeks ago (alone). Hubby had said that his son would wash up his stuff etc. However, all week I washed up his stuff and did his washing - even the day I got home after 10.30pm - having not eaten due to being in hospital - and had to wash up his struff before i could eat. (I have a heart problem which is making me breathless when I move around now I'm so large). The next day my stepson washed up & hubby praised him - without asking him why he left it for me during the week. Now my stepson rarely washes up... he's at home four days a week & if its his turn to wash up he won't do it till 4pm the next day. My husband decided that he can't afford to keep him during the hols (he goes to a vocational course 3days a week) that he should move out & that we should be a new family of three. He spoke to his son - but I think his son talked him round - I have no say. So the option now is to get a 3bed house & I will be joint owner of it. Yet I don't want to pay for a bigger house and have his son live there till he's well into 20s and have our child in a box room.. I have an 18yr old son of my own & do not want to pay for a spare room just for his.... Another thing is my insecurity - hubby is fixing a pc for a 'friend' of his - who he used to sleep with before he met me... she's always asking him for help and to mend stuff... and me being huge doesn;t help... i just don't know what to feel anymore - part of me wants to leave... I love my husband, but will always come last... and will be even further down when the baby comes. He still cooks for his son & we will NEVER be an integrated family... he's always comparing my pregnancy to his ex... says she didn't need pain relief so nor should I... always refers to his son when discussing the pregnancy/baby equipment etc - yet I don;t do the same? Also he and his ex used to have threesomes - he told me he didn't like them when we met - now though he sometimes makes jokes an I fear I'm not enough for him...? more

Resolved Question: Is my paper grammatically correct?

Are there any mistakes in my research paper??? Could i reword things to make it smoother?? Hunter Santiago Mrs. Malone English II May 5, 2010 Radiation Therapist In the United States, approximately 3,000 people are diagnosed with cancer each day. These individuals get their whole life spanned out on a timeline; one that includes their death. Few things can be done to help these people whose only hope is for hope itself. Radiation therapy is one of the few things these desperate people hope for. This, in part, is one of the many reasons why I chose a career in radiation therapy. Radiation therapy falls under the Health Science cluster, which also includes doctors, surgeons, and pharmacists. According to my Kuder assessment results, I show very promising amounts of interest in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics region of the interest inventory. Kuder also informed me of my high skill foundation that I have already begun to lay in the Health Science cluster where my career as a radiation therapist stands. My interests and my skills aren’t the exact equivalents of one another; they can be easily aligned given that I will gain experience in the field of health technology to operate the needed equipment. While working with Kuder, I also received insight on which work values mean the most to me as well as the least. It has come to my attention that I value Security in my occupation above all else, alongside Co-Workers and Challenge. A career in radiation therapy, no doubt, offers all three and many more. Because of the increasingly large number of people diagnosed with cancer each day, radiation therapists will be in high demand to meet the needs of the diagnosed patients. Income is on the bottom of my importance list, while lifestyle is closer to the top. I would prefer to maintain a social lifestyle with me friends and fellow co-workers and still obtain the job I’ve always dreamt of. Regardless, my career in radiation therapy will definitely support any lifestyle of my choosing. (Kuder) A radiation therapist is a valuable member of a cancer treatment team who delivers radiation treatments to patients, helps construct treatment plans, and works with cancer patients and their families. (Adams) A radiation therapist also uses radiation to treat cancer in the body through a process known as radiation therapy. During radiation therapy, a Linear Accelerator is used to direct x-ray or gamma ray beams to the cancerous areas in the body. This radiation causes cancer cells to die, and eventually shrinks tumors. Employers usually require applicants for this job to have an associate or a bachelor’s degree in a radiation therapy program. These programs include core courses about radiation therapy procedures and the scientific theories behind them. In addition to these core courses, additional courses on human anatomy, physiology, physics, algebra, precalculus, writing, public speaking, computer science, and research methodology are also included in the programs. In May 2008, wages in the radiation therapy field averaged about $72,910. The lowest ten percent earned less than $47,910, while the highest ten percent earned more than $104,350. First-year radiation therapists earn up to $28.49 an hour, while people with at least one year experience can earn up to $30.08 an hour. Furthermore, someone with at least ten years on their belt (or lab coat in this case) can earn as much as $39.11 per hour, averaging to about $81,348 a year. (Occupational Outlook Handbook) Work for a radiation therapist would occur in any hospital around the world that offers radiation therapy as part of its cancer treatment. The usual work hours of a radiation therapist are from 7:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. Radiation therapists may be called in on weekends as well as during the night. There are many opportunities for advancement as a radiation therapist. These advancements are centered mainly around radiologic technology and eventually include operating an entire radiology department in a hospital, or becoming a radiologic technology researcher. In the future, the plea for radiation therapists will grow at extreme rates given that 1.5 million people will continue to be diagnosed with cancer as was the case in 2009. As with all medical occupations, the demands will always continue to increase along with the complexity of medical technology. As a high school sophomore, I will land this job by graduating at the top of my class and attending Vanderbilt University in Nashville. There, I will major in radiology with a minor in oncology. I will again graduate at the top of my class. In the next fifteen years, I will be a certified radiation therapist in the state of Tennessee and hopefully continue my education in a California university. Becoming a radiation therapist will mean the world to me. I will be allowed to help cancer patients lead longer lives and gi more

Resolved Question: Can someone answer this personal injury question?

I attend bible college and I'm studying to be a minister, I'll graduate in two years. I was supposed to leave for Haiti for lab week when my doctor at the VA told me that I couldn't go. Apparently, I had some more immunizations to take. So I decided to do my Lab work on campus, painting the music rooms for the music ministry. We completed the choir room on Thursday, March 18, 2010. After lunch we moved the equipment to the vocal room. One of the other people who when painting, took the ladder that I'd been using before lunch. So I chose a piano bench to stand on. I'd finished most of my side of the wall and the young man on the other side of the wall was about to finish by meeting in the middle. Most of you that paint know that if you use a paint roller, a blank space is usually left between the roller and the ceiling. So I stepped down from the bench and replaced the roller in the paint pan and got the brush. I stepped back onto the bench and reached up to fill in the space, but I didn't get the chance. The first crack that I heard was the piano bench's leg crack. I tried to roll away from the desk and piano that were behind me. The second crack that I heard was my arm breaking my fall. As I lay there on the floor, I don't know how I remained calm enough to look over to my hand which was partially detached from my wrist. First, I tried to wiggle my fingers. they moved. Then I tried to wiggle my thumb. It moved. Then my eyes moved up to my wrist and I saw my bone sticking out by two inches. I have a compound fracture in three places that required reconstructive surgery. I have breaks in two places on the radius and one place on the ulna bone that have metal and pins to helped them mend. Amazingly I was truly blessed because my head came two inches from hitting the piano. I would've been paralyzed or dead. I praised Jesus all the way to the hospital. God is truly great! The problem? I now have a hospital bill that's $31,107.70 and an anesthesia bill for $987.00. The bible college that I attend have provided me modifications/accommodations through Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act since I have a documented disability. That's about all she wrote. I have no insurance and I usually go to the VA. I wasn't taken to the VA. My injury is going to take over a year to heal and I have to go through therapy. The bible college is a not for profit school and receives funds from the surrounding metropolitan area churches, alumni, and businesses. They offer free tuition. So, I feel awkward about filing a lawsuit. One attorney said that I probably can't recoup any losses because of their not for profit status but I should look for the manufacturer of the piano bench. Any suggestions? Only serious answers please. more

Voting Question: Walton Medical Laboratory?

Margaret Walton spent 10 years working in the laboratory at City Hospital. During that time, she advanced to the position of director of the laboratory and completed an MBA degree. She felt that opportunities for further advancement at the hospital were limited and was looking for a new challenge. She took a course in entrepreneurship and was fascinated by the idea of starting her own business. Walton decided that she would open an independent laboratory to provide medical tests for independent medical practices. She believed that she could help physicians reduce both their capital requirements and administrative chores, as well as provide more accurate testing. Walton began assembling information. She discovered a piece of land available near a number of independent medical practices. The land could be purchased for $100,000, and a suitable building would cost approximately $400,000. The building would have a useful life of approximately 40 years. Laboratory equipment would cost $1 million. The equipment would have a life of 7 years for tax purposes, but would actually last 10 years. Although the business could continue indefinitely, Walton wanted to do the analysis based on the assumption of a life similar to that of the laboratory equipment:10 years. In addition to fixed asses, working capital such as cash, supplies, receivables, and payables would be needed. Walton wanted to maintain a minimum cash balance of $20,000. She estimated that $100,000 of supplies would be needed initially, and accounts payable at $40,000. She estimated that the cash, supplies, receivables, and payables categories would double at the end of the first year and would not increase thereafter. Walton predicted revenue of $600,000 during the first year and $1,200,000 each year thereafter. She estimated that labor expenses, including a salary for her equal to what she was now earning, of $300,000 in the firs year and $480,000 each year thereafter. She estimated a supplies expense of $120,000 in the first year and $190,000 each year thereafter. SHe estimated overhead expense, other than depreciation, of $100,000 a year. Looking ahead, Walton estimated that the equipment would have a negligible value in 10 years, while the building would have lost one-fourth of tits value and the land 1 would still be worth $100,000. She guessed that supplies inventory could be sold for half its cost, and other working capital items would be settled at their book values. Walton turned her attention to financing. She had limited capital of her own and would need to seek outside investors. She had heard enough horror stories about problems that occurred when companies could not make payments on debts, and she wanted to avoid those troubles. Thus, she wanted to try to arrange all equity financing, and use a bank line of credit only for temporary needs. Walton decided on a plan involving ten wealthy investors, preferably senior retired physicians who would then serve on the board of directors. She would fund the project by creating eleven shares – one share free to herself as a founder’s share and one share to each of the investors. Each investor would then invest 10 percent of the capital requirements. Walton tentatively discussed the project with several senior retire physicians to see what would be required. They viewed this as an investment of moderate risk and indicated that they would want a 12 percent after tax return from an investment of this type. While several investors encourages her to continue, they were naturally unwilling to make a commitment without a proposal and a thorough financial analysis. Walton began to develop a profitability analysis and a proposal. She had to choose between the corporate tax form and an S form. She estimated that most investors would be in 28 percent tax brackets. All funds not needed internally would be paid out to the shareholders. She thought she could be ready to start by the first of the year, so assets would be considered placed in service in January. Case questions 1. Identify all cash flow on the assumption the business is taxed at a 28 percent tax rate. 2. Prepare a net present value analysis. 3. Does this investment provide a satisfactory rate of return to investors? 4. Is it fair and reasonable for Walton to get one-eleventh of the company without putting up equity capital of her own? more

Voting Question: Can you go over the weight capacity of exercise equipment?

I'm looking to buy a small elliptical machine, just a standing one that's basically the foot rests and gears that you stand on and move. I'm about 20 lbs over the weight capacity of the one I want and I was wondering if anyone had used exercise machines while being slightly over their max. weight limit? I know it would probably void the warranty and all that, but I'm more worried of hopping on it and winding up with it suddenly breaking and winding up in the hospital. Haha more

Resolved Question: non-licensed vehicles?

I have respect for everyone who has a job rather it be hospital, factory, fastfood, or whatever. I respect everyone whos out there working to make a living and not sitting on there fatass collecting unemployment or wellfare, But heres my b*tch All vehicles on our hwys and roads are to be licensed and the cops have no problem busting your ass if your plates are overdue. Now tell me where the hell farmers driving there NON-LISENCED tractor, combine and whatever farm equipment they have on our hwys and road ways causing long lines of traffic behind them waiting to pass which causes a traffic jam waiting for an accident to happen. These farmers do not pay to have these tractors and combines and whatever licensed they do not pay a wheel-tax but yet they get to use our hwys and roadways. I understand they have to go from one field to another to do there job, i also have to go from place A to place B to do my job, Do i get to drive on the hwys in a non-lisenced vehicle HELL NO. These farmers could take the dirt road or gravel roads to get wherever there going, It happens all the time when their is a detour but do they? HELL NO. They drive down there freaking hwy 20 miles an hour as if they own it. Pull your head out of your ass and give your brain some oxygen. farmers TAKE THE FREAKIN BACKROADS. thats what there made for. We pay license on cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles and even mopeds. If you want to drive on the hwys then lets get a law passed were you have to pay to lisence to drive down the hways or stay the hell off of them. more

Resolved Question: Given the following, is it not inevitable that Obamacare's cost will be measured in lost lives of the elderly?

In 2011: cuts begin for Medicare Advantage; the elderly are no longer allowed to use Health Care Account (FSA, HSA, HRA, Archer MSA) distributions for over-the-counter medicine; Medicare cuts to home health begin; wealthier seniors begin paying higher Part D premiums (not indexed for inflation in Parts B/D); new Medicare cuts to long-term care hospitals begin in July; Medicare reimbursement will be cut when seniors use diagnostic imaging like MRIs, CT scans, etc., and cuts begin for ambulance services, ASCs, diagnostic labs, and durable medical equipment. And, additional Medicare cuts to hospitals and to nursing homes and inpatient rehab facilities begin after October, along with cuts for dialysis treatment; Medicare will reduce spending by using an HMO-like coordinated care model; new Medicare cuts to inpatient psych hospitals begin in July; Medicare cuts to hospice begin in fiscal 2013, accompanied by cuts to hospitals that treat low-income seniors. In 2014 more Medicare cuts to home health begin. Or do you believe that the elderly will still recieve the life extending services even after Obama quits paying for them? http://bdtonline.com/columns/x769246155/The-health-care-reform-bill-has-passed-now-we-know-what-s-in-it more

Resolved Question: Did this email come to you too and what do you think of it?

Apr 1, 6:20 AM EDT AP Exclusive: US solving deficit problems By LOLA MALFOY Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON (AP) -- In response to continuing worries about the growing US deficit, Republican leadership in both houses of Congress soon will introduce landmark legislation designed to remedy it, according to a highly placed source speaking on condition of anonymity. While most social programs will be deactivated, current recipients of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and care under the Veteran's Administration Programs will not be cut off at once. Instead, what recipients otherwise would have received will be phased out over a three-year period as VA Hospitals and other facilities are closed, giving recipients time to find other means. At the end of the third year no more payments will be made. Effective immediately, however, with the passage of the bill, there will be no new recipients of payments under these programs. The government employees who have administered these programs in the past will be released to find other employment within the first year of the new bill's effectiveness, a savings of billions of dollars in wages over time, according to our source. These employees will no longer be needed, as there will be no new applications to process, while the phase-down process will be entirely automatic and without exceptions. To futher reduce the deficit, effective immediately, the bill cuts off funds for all military operations outside the borders of the United States, except for the funds required to bring our servicemen home. Many of the returning servicemen will be stationed at our borders to permanently prevent drugs and illegal immigrants from entering this country, but most will simply be released from the military to find employment within our domestic economy. Some military equipment will be brought back home and used to secure the country from possible attack, but most will be abandoned. Our source says this will save billions of dollars as compared to transporting the equipment back to the US, storing it and maintaining it. This follows the precedent set by the US military at the end of World War II. The bill also stops all foreign aid as of the end of the fiscal year in which the bill is passed. Finally, a 35% tariff will be imposed on all goods imported into this country, with the proceeds used to help eliminate the deficit. Asked how soon this bill might be enacted, our source said that after the upcoming elections replace many of those currently in Congress, it should be possible to pass the bill next year. Asked if this action was inspired by the current wave of Tea Parties, our source said not exactly, but that all of these actions had been suggested by various Tea Party advocates, and that there was yet more deficit reduction work to be done. more

Resolved Question: Why did this man have to die, because no one would give him any water?

This is an atrocity!. IF this is what we can expect from the direction our NEW health care system is going, we better repeal it quickly! Do you think this is what we're headed for in the US? Is sure seems that way, doesn't it? excerpt... A patient desperate for a drink of water had to telephone the switchboard of the hospital he was being treated in to beg to see a doctor. Derek Sauter, 60, used his mobile phone to request medical attention after his pleas for help were ignored. But when the doctor arrived he was turned away by ward nurse Caroline Lowe, who said Mr Sauter was 'over-reacting' and threatened to confiscate his phone. Family man: Derek Sauter on holiday with his wife Susan - their daughter Ruth said she was appalled at the way he was treated Eight hours later the grandfather-of-three, who was suffering with a chest infection, was dead. Rather than offering sympathy to Susan, Mr Sauter's wife of 41 years, Miss Lowe later told her that he could have been prosecuted for harassing the doctor on call. Yesterday his daughter, Ruth Sauter, 42, said she was appalled at the way her father, a former administrator for the Healthcare Commission, the former NHS watchdog, had been let down by the NHS. Sacked: Caroline Lowe, the ward nurse, turned the doctor away who came to see Mr Sauter 'My father went into hospital for a routine chest infection, but never came out,' said Miss Sauter, of Thurrock, Essex. 'His condition was not life threatening and the nurses had specific instructions to keep close tabs on him. 'But their appalling lack of care, and cruel behaviour killed my father. He should not have died that weekend; it was not his time. 'It's so much worse knowing that he died alone, thirsty and scared on that ward.' Mr Sauter was admitted to Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, in Kent, at 9am on June 27 2008. He was admitted to a ward and given intravenous antibiotics and oxygen, but at 8.30pm he telephoned Mrs Sauter, a midwife, in distress claiming nurses were refusing to give him any water because he had accidentally knocked over the first cup he had been given. A note scrawled by Mr Sauter and discovered by his family after his death said: 'Asked for a jug of water at 6pm and again at 8.30, told to wait for handover. Said I knocked cup of water on floor.' In another note Mr Sauter said he was 'getting depressed'. Some time between 9.30pm and 11.30pm Mr Sauter was moved to a side room where there was no monitoring equipment and, although he was supposed to be checked every four hours, no observations on his condition were made. At 11.35pm Mr Sauter, who had still not had any fluids, made his desperate call to the switchboard. The following morning, at 6.51am, a distressed Mr Sauter telephoned his wife to ask her to come back to the hospital. But he died of pneumonia brought on by the chest infection less than half an hour later - before Mrs Sauter, 60, arrived. Voting Question: Should I include tatts that i have done (decent quality) in a portfolio to show prospective tattoo employers?

I have done a few tatts on my fiance, and with care, they have turned out really well. Would itbe appropriate to include these in an apprentice portfolio? Or do u think that they would be less likely to look at me because of these? (Before anybody has a go at me for doing backyard work, please consider that I sterilise all of my equipment to a hospital grade standard, I ALWAYS use new sterilized needles and grips, and always use new ink cups which the ink bottle never touches. I also have only tattooed my partner, who I know to be clean!)(sterilised in an autoclave by my local tattooist who is fine with all my hygeine practices and has taught me how to avoid the possibility of cross contamination. He is not employing at the mment, as he is considdering retiring after 36years of tatooing) more

Resolved Question: Do hospitals really need you to turn your phone off?

I used to work for a government organisation that used to use high powered RF. I was told I had to inform any hospitals if I was using the equipment near them as it would have an effect on their pager system, but nothing was ever said about sensitive medical equipment. Is there anything in a hospital that could be affected by using a mobile phone? I have also been told that hospitals say that because they want patients to use the phones next to the hospital beds, rather than the patients own mobile phone. more

Resolved Question: What will happen to the Aadvantage Medicare Program now that the Health Bill passed?

I heard that the bill cuts $523billion from Medicare. I'm partially disabled &I rely on my Aadvantage HMO, will I now have to use 'traditional Medicare (fee for service)'? Here's the info I found & what it cuts for Seniors & the Disabled: Cuts to Senior Health Care in Illinois under Medicare The legislation stands for the principle that we should cut senior health care under Medicare to fund a new entitlement spending program. Over 40 million seniors depend on Medicare for their health care. Under the Senate bill, the federal government would cut over $500 billion from Medicare. This includes cutting over $200 billion from Medicare Advantage, cancelling the Medicare choice of over 120,000 Illinois seniors. Here is a summary of the top Medicare cuts: Medicare Advantage -$202 Billion Home Health -$39 Billion Medicare Part B -$25 Billion Hospital DSH Payments -$25 Billion Medicare Part D -$10 Billion Medical Imaging -$1 Billion Preventative Services -$700 Million Durable Medical Equipment -$1 Billion Power-Driven Wheelchairs -$800 Million Hospice -$100 Million Medicare Improvement Fund -$20 Billion Medigap -$100 Million Total Medicare Cuts -$523 Billion more

Resolved Question: Public option aside: The medical industry's cost to consumers has risen far more than any other?

instance of business (discloses government spending). What would you attribute this to? Here are some possible answers, but I'm not really sure. Frivolous Malpractice: Hundreds of millions of dollars a year in unnecessary costs which are spread to the consumer. Pharmaceutical Companies: The average cost to even introduce medicine on the market per drug is about $1,000,000.00. They use vast profits from other drugs to pay for these. Doctor's pay: At a hospital with around 100 doctors making an AVERAGE of $150,000.00 a year, the cost to pay those doctors runs 1.5 million per year. Medical School: Medical School puts doctors in debt for years after medical school (when they are making relatively small amounts of money as interns and residents), forcing their cost of living to be higher and higher in order to pay it off. (increased cost of living increases needed pay) Insurance Companies: The birth of insurance companies, though noble, allowed some dishonest doctors to charge their losses to the insurance companies through radical increase of prices for treatment normally given directly to the patient at a much lower cost. This practice became more wildly acceptable over the course of decades and is now commonly applied to increase of costs across the board (wages to equipment) (This is the one I believe in the least, because it seems to be a consequence of high cost, rather than a strong reason) Medical Equipment Medical Equipment requires high cost due to the research needed to develop it. This makes a machine that normally would cost a few thousand to make from scratch sell for several million dollars a peice. The problem is that the price doesn't decline (or doesn't decline by much) once research and development is paid off. Which of these (or any others) are key contributors to the gigantic cost of health care, which contribute very little if anything, and are there any I missed?Tally of contributing factors, 1 for medical school, 1 against doctors (doctors are not to blame for high prices) more

Resolved Question: What are the chances of someone surviving this scenario?

If someone was shot through the chest with several 7.62x54mmR expanding bullets [and it collapsed both of their lungs and severed several major arteries], or if they were shot through the gut several times with the same type of bullet [and it blew out their kidneys, liver, and parts of their intestines and stomach; and severed several major arteries], what are their chances of survival if there was a team of extremely qualified combat surgeons [i.e- they had been through several years of medical school [with doctorates in anatomy, physiology, etc.], and had many years of combat experiance and could work VERY quickly in extremely stressful battlefield situations] with the most modern equipment [including, but not limited to, powerful antibiotics, extremely complex surgical tools, the new type of "plasma knife" that the military is developing; which both cuts and cauterizes at the same time, PerClot [a new clotting agent which clots arteries within half a second and is used to stop bleeding in extreme cases [such as the severing of the aortal artery and open-heart surgery]], diolysis machines; defribrilators, artificial lungs, hearts, livers, intestines, stomachs, and kidneys, [as well as all other artificial organs necessary for such a wound], and ALL of the most advanced; top-of-the-line medical equipment ever designed for such a wound], and there was a med-EVAC helicopter waiting to evacuate the injured soldier to a combat hospital with ALL of the MOST advanced, state of the art equipment ever designed, as well as many extremely qualified teams of surgeons working in sterile, hospital conditions [such as hospital rooms, beds, etc.]; and assuming the soldier was big, muscular, and strong, with an extremely strong immune/muscular system capable of healing relatively rapidly, what would be said soldier's chances of survival? Also, assume that the surgeons got on the soldier almost INSTANTLY, so almost no time [i.e- like half a second] passed between the soldier being shot and the surgeons starting the operation. more
