Voting Question: Getting a puppy as a present?
For my dads birthday my brother and i are trying to get him a puppy, for as long as we have known him he has wanted a border collie and i recently discovered some for sale from a friend who knows the breeder. He is very good with dogs having had them before, and he is now in a position to have another one again. Obviously it would be irresponsible to just buy it and present it to him, so we have arranged for us to go and see them as a surprise and then tell him he can have one. Also we are paying for all the preliminary veterinary treatment (vaccinations etc) and any equipment he might need in the beginning. If he goes away my brother and i are old enough to house sit, so kennels are not an expense. The only problem is that my father can be a little unpredictable in his moods, he could say no to something he really wanted if he was stressed or grumpy, so essentially my question is, apart from my fathers unpredictability, have we done as much as we can to ensure a positive reaction? I want this to be a nice experience with as little stress to him as possible, and get him something he has always wanted. So if anyone has any suggestions about anything else i may have missed or that will reduce any stress for him please post it, any helpful comments will be gratefully received. Thank YouOh i should add that we are not buying the puppy to start with, we have informed the breeder who is a friend that we are interested and that the sale will be confirmed once the surprise has been sprung and my father has agreed. If not then the puppy stays with the breeder. Also my dad definetly wants a dog, he keeps talking about getting one and complaining about the cost of buying them, but how adoption takes to long, so i know he wants one i am just turning it into a less stresssful and costly process. Additionally im not a minor, and even if i was it will be my father buying the puppy for himself, i will just provide the money.
