"any living or extinct member of the family Hominidae characterized by superior intelligence, articulate speech, and erect carriage" by Princeton
You could argue that an unborn baby does not meet this criteria. True. But does a 6 month old? Something either meets a definition or it doesn't, so we can infer that it means at any point in the future if the organism meets the criteria it would be a human being.@Yoda
As I said, something either meets the definition or it doesn't. It doesn't half meet the definition. The fetus does not at this point in time, but neither does a 6 month old, so how is a 6 month old a human being but a fetus isn't?@Francoise

Hi,
Basically I have been going to the gym for over 2 months now. My first target was to loose weight and pretty quickly I managed to loose 10kgs (4 weeks). Now for roughly the past month my main goal has been muscle definition (fat loss), and if I am honest I see little progress after 2 months. MY pecs are firmer and my biceps look a little bigger but nothing major. I have been drinking 3 maxi-muscle promax shakes a day as well as eating protein foods (I have been trying my best to eat low carb and low fat foods). I also have been going to the gym 4/5 times a week.
Is it normal for it to take this long or am I doing something wrong?
If it helps I am doing pyramid training (recommended by my fitness coach), I am 88kg (roughly 194lb) and just under the 6 ft 2 mark, male and 16 years of age (don't be fooled by the age I am honestly stronger than more than half the men that go) I also seem to be more vascular on my forearms.
Thanks!

my wife had a drug related felony conviction 14 yrs ago, when she was in college. Would this likely prevent/bar her from being getting a visa? I am currently applying for a visa after being offered a job in the UK and just discovered that she too has to apply for a separate visa, so I am asking this question before going further.
relative to paragraph 320(18)...Rehabilitation of Offenders Act1974....
If a sentence is excluded from rehabilitation (Drug Offense), will the application automatically by rejected? Are there any provisions for offering proof of rehabilitation that can be provided other that the legal definition spelled outin the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, ie. no futher offenses, education level and community standing(position as college professor, business owner)etc. Is there any subjective input? It was related to trafficking and the sentence was for more than 2.5 years. This a occured while she was a college student. She has had no further offenses. This was a first time offense, with a draconian response, though the sentencing rules have since changed significantly to a far lower mandatoy time.
She has since finished a masters degree and is working on a thesis for her PhD after completing all of her course work and exams. She works as a college professor and had started two successful small businesses and is raising two children, all at the same time. I am currently being offered a position in the UK at very well known and prestigious company, but fear I may have to pass this on this great opportunity if this one time mistake will be held against her even though she clearly posses no potential harm to anyone. This is a very stressful situation since the company wants us to come over for a week (in on week from now) to look for housing and I don't know if my wife has a chance of being able to stay.I wish there was somone I could contact directly at UK Border Agency who coud answer this directly. I have yet been able to get to the right person to answer this question definatively before blowing another $1000 on an application that will immediately dismissed.

The foreigner fears
Departing from the reflection of Galimberti that says "what folly is if not a figure of
that foreign life…" ,si can affirm, in effects, that the madman understands and sees everything
what happens around him but it is incapable to make to be understood and to communicate the
own ideas, just as the foreigner that because of the language or for any other
barrier is incapable to manifest himself for that that really it is and not for that
what because of the prejudices and of the stereotypes and forced to become.
If him note, today, the synonyms of " foreigner " are there " immigrant " and " extra " community this
it allows to understand as the ancient connotation of foreigner is not quite changed. In fact
anciently the foreigner was the enemy for definition, you/he/she could be plundered and private
of the life, " communities " were separate, hostile the one verse the other.
With the Christianity it changes the subject and the foreigner it becomes the infidel and the heretic, and finally with
the totalitarian regimes particularly the fascism they declared the Hebrews as foreigners.
But today with the advent of the U.N. and other organizations of support and collaboration among
the states the concept of foreigner should be changed, but it is not this way.
According to how much it says the "universal Declaration of the rights of the man" of 1948 we are
all equal ones and what counts it is the affiliation to the human kind and the brotherhood in rights and
dignity without geographical, ethnic and political confinements. It condemns therefore the conception
of the separated humanity for social and territorial compartments.
All of this remains on the paper but if we go to observe and to put us in the cloths of one
foreigner reality is not this, them in fact they still feel different and don't suffer only
for the community that discriminates them but also for the absence of the state that doesn't allow him
to insert him, leaving them so in a condition of continuous illegality that is shown us
every day in the newspapers and newscasts accusing of this, always or almost always the
different. This is because each has the an own truth and a personal opportunity to see her/it
things, not knowing therefore the point of view of the others we cannot know
not even that of the similar to us accordingly not even the different one, and it is perhaps for
this that is incommunicability and intolerance among the men.
But if to be foreign means to originate from another place and therefore to have customs and
different cultures everything consists of learning to recite a part, as Goffman tells to know
the script, the style of the recitation and the taste of the public that is to learn to insert him
faking to know the customs and the customs of a place staying him same however.
This is difficult for those people who find before a new world of which you/they don't know
nothing and that he/she doesn't understand them, they often find in the middle of a river but they are not
in none of the two shores, from a side there is the future, "the continent that waits for them" and from the other the
past and their identity, therefore to learn to adapt himself/herself/themselves and not to lose him same as

Done it is that the condition of foreigner is very relative as all of this that seems us
different and therefore even defective in comparison to us (in how much we are brought to approach us
only to that it resembles us) and in turn perfect for an anything else other than even it belongs to the
same " race ", so the black is different in turn from the white but the different white from Chinese
and from the Asian. Besides foreigner can be also the tourist, the emigrant…., he is for this
what who travels having been in turn foreigner it is more sensitive and tolerant in the comparisons

with the others his/her own knowledges and experiences it overcomes his isolation.
Emigrants have also been Italians in America, they were treated as
or perhaps worse of the emigrants that disembark today in the Italian coasts, they came

As you/he/she can be seen therefore it is everything one circle that always returns to the point of departure and that
sooner or later it touches to all to face, the reality it is that we are all foreigners and it is w

moreOpen Question: LGBT rights are used and abused by a great number of people.?
Do you agree?
I am gay, but I am starting to think that the LGBT movement has gone too far. As a personal preference, I just don't like the way it's become. I am all for the fight for LGBT people to have rights, but people seem to want more and are beginning to make the LGBT community look bad. They are rediculed more now than they ever have been.
Here are a few examples of what I mean.
1. Gay pride marches/Mardi gras etc - Why does this need to be a celebration of sexual orientation? Why does it have to be so unbelieveably flamboyant full of drag acts and semi-naked people parading around? If it must be about sexual orientation, can't it be a little more dignified. Sure, have a rave.. have some gigs going on but put your clothes on get those fucking annoying drag acts off the stage.
2. Gay bars - I'm all for gay bars, but it's the etiquette of it all that I find disturbing. I have been kissed by many a stranger on the cheek or the head (by many gay men and every time I go in, not because they fancy me but it's supposed to be taken as a greeting) and frankly I don't like it. I think it's vulgarity and they have no right to kiss me or hug me unless a situation arises where it's amicable and a mutual decision. If they do fancy me, I get touched on the ass or pinched on the ass and I have to say "I have a boyfriend" just to get them to go the fuck away. After lots of rebuking, this one guy said "do you fancy going outside for a chat?". I mean how many times do you have to tell these people.. GO AWAY!!!! I know it's a gay bar but it's seedy and gross and personally, I think it's sexual harrassment. Unless I give you le-way to touch me, DO NOT!!!! All this kissing, touchy feely nonsense is just playing up to stereotype and then gay people waffle on about how you shouldn't generalize or stereotype. I mean I am gay myself but the LGBT community are becoming over-sensitive.
3. The use of the word "homophobic" - The dictionary definition "the fear of a person or group of people who are homosexual". It does not mean "anyone who disagrees with me". I have heard this word used over and over and over and over and over again to describe people, who frankly weren't being homophobic they just harboured different views on the likes of gay adoption and so forth. Some gay people I know don't like the idea of gay people adopting.. that does not mean that they are homophobic, they just don't agree with it. Like I don't agree with 13 year old looking after children unsupervised. That doesn't make me 13-year-old-a-phobic, I just don't agree with it. Period.
4. Vulgarity and effemininity - I am sorry, but gay men in particular are becoming vuglar and overly effeminate. I am not suggesting that the two coincide, I am saying that is two traits that I have noticed in a lot of gay men. I had one person come up to me in a gay once and I was willing to speak to him (SPEAK to him!!) and he immediately started talking about the last hand job he had given to someone and how much of a cocktease he was. Now he wasn't even that good looking and it made me retch. I'm sure some of you are retching now. He then took it upon himself to launch himself at me and try and snog my face off. I pushed him away immediately and left! It was a disgusting experience. Gay men are becoming so effeminate aswell, that they appear to make themselves believe they are the "bees knees" and everyone loves them and they have this "look at me! look at me" mentality. Some really camp men, do the splits on the dance floor and dance as if they are amazing and they think their amazing but their really not. One guy I saw was actually jigging his chests like beyonce, but she does that because she's jiggling her breasts. As gay men do not have breasts, there is no point to them doing this action. They just think it's the cool thing to do and that everyone think their amazing. More often than that, they are being laughed at.
I think the LGBT community need to take issue with this. I am gay as I've said, but this sort of behaviour is giving us a bad name and making people look at homosexuality in a negative light. If you're a man, you're a man. If you're a woman, you're a woman and the laws of decency and respect still apply to the LGBT commiunity and so they should be sustained and respected.
What do you guys think?Wait! Are you seriously suggesting that I am wrong because I believe the laws of decency should prevail? Are you seriously suggesting that we should allow people to slack the laws of manners and respect because gay pride insist that we do? As I have said, I am gay but I don't want people to molest me or try and grope me for their own sick reasons, as I don't want a straight woman to molest me or grope me for her sick reasons. As I say (and sadly gay people don't realize) that this is perverse (not gay people being what they are) but people in general. Do you really think that I or indeed them, should accept that? It is perverse!Period!Funnyfac, you didn't understand what I said. What you chose to do instead of understand me was what I implied, and that is to accuse me of homophobia. Shame on you! That is actually what I tried to say and I am very pro gay people. Shame on you my friend! :)Funnyfac, Actually.. YOU ARE WRONG and I will tell you why. I hate vulgarity in any sense. I didn't just pin it on gay people.. but it is a trait observed by myself in a lot of gay men. You say "it's a freakin bar", so going into a bar gives people cart blanche to behave in any way they so choose (even to the discomfort of others). I should leave my drink and "remove myself from the situation" as you so delicately put it, because "it's a freakin bar" and we should expect this sort of behaviour. You accept the behaviour of a lot of gay men, because straight men do it. If so, you conform. THERE IS NO EXCUSE for any of this type of behaviour in society from ANY SECTORS but I as I say, I observed this trait in gay men on average and I think it is something that the gay community need to address. "Any unauthorised touching is an assault" (Judge Judy!) and whether your gay or straight the rules of decency and respect should still apply. If that makes me a dried up Tory, then so be it.

moreOpen Question: Does she REALLY just want to be friends, is she scared or is she playing hard to get?
There's this girl, see - of course there is!!
When I met her, I was awestruck! She is the most exquisite creature! We're both 30-ish.
That was a year ago. I was married at the time, in the process of a divorce. I finally got divorced in January, but didn't date anyone.
Her and I work at a volunteer centre. We see each other only about once a week or so.
Initially, her and I would just say Hi at a distance... Sometime later, we went on a skills training course. She chose to sit next to me most of the time. At the end of the course, I told her what a lovely person I thought she is and I hope we get to work together for much longer. She complimented me back, said the broke the mould when they made me... Then we hugged. My heart raced!
Back at the centre, we'd hug every week when greeting each other and saying goodbye. The hugs were short at first, but gradually became longer, tighter hugs. Soon after, she gave me a peck on my cheek - she initiated that...
After 3 weeks of this, I noticed our pecks getting closer to our lips, until 2 weeks ago, our lips touched at the sides - briefly!
Then one week, I felt cheeky and kissed her straight on the lips, which she didn't dodge. It was really just a quick sort of friendly kiss (peck) on the lips, followed by a mutually tight squeeze.
The next week though, she seemed "in" on the lips thing and aimed straight for mine as I did hers. We shared quite a tight, long-ish hug. Then we realised the centre's lights were off, so we went to switch them off. We came out, she moved to me. We kissed again, not too quick, but more than a peck and hugged tight again!
We have been greeting each other like this for near on 5 months now.
THEN, TODAY, I summed up some courage, took the Red Pill and told her how ardently I love her. It was so awesome and liberating, telling her! Man, she turns my life into 3-d HIGH DEFINITION! Her voice sounds like warm honey and soft silk. I actually wish she would read this and know I am serious - but Yahoo Answers isn't her sort of thing
Anyway, she was a bit taken aback, since I have been trying to convince her (and myself) for a year now that my feelings for her are just plutonic - but they are not. I ADORE her! I find the idea of being with any other woman utterly repugnant. She replied, saying I am such a sweet guy. However, she said she is still very much in love with her 1st boyfriend that she broke up some 4 years ago with. She also said that I am too nice for her and she prefers different kind of guys. Like bad boy types, I guess.
But, more than this, it sounded to me like she was just trying to find excuses. She said she isn't good enough for me, that she cannot love me the way I need and want to be loved. Said she is quite a b*tch sometimes and an utter cow. To be sure, she probably does have a bit of a temper - but don't we all? I am not perfect by any stretch!
She said she wants to remain friends. I am, of course, happy with this - as I'd rather have her as a plutonic friend than not at all! GASP! I'd rather rip my beating heart out and stomp it into the ground than not have her in my life at all!
SO, WHAT IS THIS?? I am completely smitten with her. She doesn't often communicate with me in the week, though it has actually picked up in recent times and we often speak on the phone for like 30-40 minutes!! Could it be that she has feelings for me, but is trying to be careful? Or are we just friends? Is she playing hard-to-get? Is she nervous that I came out of a divorce?
Or what? I'm really new and quite stupid at all this relationship/ feeling stuff, as only ever had 1 girlfriend that I got married to and we are now divorced...
OR, could it ultimately just be that I do not make her heart go boom, like she does mine?

"Jesus once said " Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks" Whenever God the father speaks of, He speaks of His son, for Christ is foremost on His heart. The bread of Life can be tested in " every WORD that proceeds from the moth of God ( is Jesus Himself) In fact when God express Himself is Christ."
WOW indeed Christ is at the centre of the universe and He is the definition of God.
I have NEVER seen those verses (Luke 6:45 Matthew 4:4 ) in this perspective before.
Have you? would you mind sharing your thoughts with me?
Thanks for taking time to post today.I am not responsible for the TDs-:)

moreVoting Question: Muscle definition...To get more is it a case of working out more, or losing body fat?
I have an okish kinda body. I have a 6 pack and pecs but i also have fat. So the 6 pack isn't nearly as noticable as i want it to be. I would ideally like to get more definition everywhere, so everything is noticable. But i've kinda plateaud in the muscle gain for the moment. So is it just maybe a case of losing the body fat or just increase the wookout? Thing thing is, I'm 18, i have a small frame and a small bone structure so i only weigh about 120-125 pounds anyway. Which isn't healthy for an 18 year old. Thats why the workout started. But if its a case of 'lose the fat to bring out the muscle' can i afford to do that being only 125lbs? What would you suggest?

If you take the seats and windows out of an articulated bus, would this then become a HGV and trailer?
Would VOSA etc legally recognise it as such, or would the legal definition of an articulated bus (a trailing section only able to be seperated by workshop facilities) be too much of a contradiction to suit a lorry and trailer definition? If you take the seats and windows out of an articulated bus, would this then become a HGV and trailer?
Would VOSA etc legally recognise it as such, or would the legal definition of an articulated bus (a trailing section only able to be seperated by workshop facilities) be too much of a contradiction to suit a lorry and trailer definition?
EDIT: This is coming from he idea of using an articulated bus for a non-bus activity e.g. exhibition vehicle, motorhome, horsebox, car transporter etc.

moreResolved Question: I actually need help with my paranoia?!?
So I just looked up the definition of a hypochondriac on google:
"excessive fear of having a serious disease. These fears are not relieved when a medical examination finds no evidence of disease. People with hypochondriasis are often able to acknowledge that their fears are unrealistic, but this intellectual realization is not enough to reduce their anxiety"
This is me EXACTLY. I always jump to the worst conclusion - like recently I've been getting throat pain and boob pain and I immediately assumed I had some form of cancer and hit the internet, made myself panic etc
This ALWAYS happens and I can't stop myself. After blood tests showing i did not have glandular fever or anything of the sort, I am still convinced there is something wrong with me, and these symptoms get worse when I am stressed.
I'm sick of driving myself crazy thinking I am seriously ill. What can I do to help myself? Because, I don't particularly want to go to the doctor and be like: "well, i'm a hypochondriac, so i'm talking sh!t" because then they won't listen to me at all and put it down to hypochondria. But I really need to sort myself out. :( If anyone has any suggestions they would be most welcome.

moreResolved Question: What is the true definition of homophobia?
Before you all start jumping down my neck, I am gay myself and very comfortable with my sexuality thank you..
However and this is my pet peeve with the LGBT community. If someone's harbours different views on Homosexuality than (let's say in this case..) a gay man, then they are often (if not regularly) accused of homophobia.
I remember reading somewhere that a woman didn't want her kids exposed to homosexuality at an early age. This woman was not homophobic, she just realized that her children wouldn't understand and she wanted them to be educated by her on the subject later on (so that she could teach them that it wasn't a negative thing), rather than her seeing those children be bullied and to think of homosexuality in a negative light. She was also insistant that they wouldn't understand at an early age.
My opinion on that case, is that she was quite right. They wouldn't understand and as I have been a Primary school teacher for the last six years, I know full well that they don't understand and questions ensue and bullying occurs and homosexuality is seen in a negative way as the child grows up.
.. but anywya more often that not, the LGBT community on average have a massive thing about calling people "homophobic", just because they don't agree with their views. It seems "homophobia" is the new "racism" and people are using this politically correct society to justify a "i'm right, your wrong" attitude, which frankly I find disturbing.

moreResolved Question: Why do legal authorities call banned substances controlled substances?
Why do governments and the like call substances they ban "controlled substances" when by the very definition of a banned substance means they are exercising no control over it?
In contrast, a legal substance that is regulated is in actual fact a "controlled substance" because its manufacture, purity, sale and distribution is controlled and (purportedly) regulated. Also accurate, safe and harm reducing information tends to be present, where as with both illegal and unregulated legal substances this information is lacking or dangerously wrong or misleading.
The only means by which illegal substances are controlled are by the criminal "underclass", and that is only ruled by their desire to maintain a highly profitable business by any means. This leads to impurities, unknown quality, extremely high prices and profit margins, and the other wise law abiding and productive citizens are forced to deal with dangerous illegal criminals in dangerous circumstances.
Legal substances which are not regulated pose an equal danger to the public because they are not regulated or controlled.
Therefore there is no difference between legal and unregulated substances and illegal substances other than whom the general public usually have to deal with, and that fact that taxes are applied to the legal unregulated substances (placing money into economic society as opposed to illegal substances removing money from the public economy).
the only reason I can think of that the governments like call illegal substances "controlled" is to mislead the general public that they are indeed taking responsibility and safe guarding public interest (when in actual fact they are doing the exact opposite).
So surely wouldn't it make more sense to fully regulate and therefore actually control all drugs?
moreResolved Question: could i class myself as white caucasian?
and what is your definition of being white or caucasian ?
as i understand it europeans dont have the same mixture as most americans.
i myself were born in england , english of majority french ancestry , but i had one spanish grandparent .
i class myself as white or caucasian , however you want to term it .
in the uk on forms or documentation you have ethnic categories to tick like : white British , white other , asian chinese or indian etc . - ive always ticked ' white british ' or had it ticked for me .
i know of some opinions who wouldn't share my opinion because some people for some reason dont see the spanish as white or caucasian.
and because i had a paternal spanish grandmother, that would rule me out of being classed as white or caucasian.
likewise , i know of many who think all Spaniards are white or Mediterranean and so i would still be defined as white in spite of my Spanish grandmother .
any thoughts ?
moreResolved Question: DS: Just how different are BYBs and puppy farms/mills anyway?
So my personal ways of differentiating between them is this...
BYBs tend to be just ignorant and whilst they do not do health testing on their breeding stock or breed proven dogs, they still care about their animals to the extent they will pay for at least basic vet care and food and of course provide interaction.
Puppy mills/farms do not see pets as leaving creatures that can feel pain and fear, but just as machines that the more they breed, the more cash they will produce. Little or not regard is given to the welfare of the dogs which means they often live in filth and squalor, in overcrowded kennels, with no exercise, little food/water, no vet care and no affection/interaction. They are shipped off to pet shops to be sold.
How clear is the line between the two? IS there a clear line or is it merely down to opinion what makes someone a BYB and what makes someone the owner/operater of a puppy mill/farm? Do you believe that a BYB is just a scaled down version of a puppy farm/mill or is there a clear difference? What is your definition of them both?Pamela, this is a "What is your opinion?" Q not a "What is correct?" Q. Sheesh.

Roughly two months ago the Date and Time on my PC keeps back dating to 2005
I have clicked the option 'Internet Time' so that it could continue to auto set itself but its always followed with an Error msg.
I have manually changed the time and date of my PC clock but it resets itself every 24hrs back to 2005.
This date error is causing my Anti virus to constantly say 'outdated definitions' and doesnt install the new definitions as it doesnt recognise the date.
- and within my Start menu all my installed programs flash up in bright orange as a newly installed and unused programs.
- And when i log into my any of my online accounts, i get constant security msgs popping up stating, 'Error: There is a problem with this sites security certificate, continuing to this website is not recommended' and this happens with every single site i need to enter a password into.
(i had Noton and it stated that i had no Viruses on my system)
(These are the obvious effects of the date being wrong on my PC but I am not sure which other effects it might be having)
Why could my computer be doing this?ohhh so what is a CMOS battery???

moreVoting Question: Benefits- What constitutes a partner?
I live in a 2 bedroom flat with a guy who I would refer to as my boyfriend to most people but we have our own rooms and we share no finances; i.e. we pay our own bills, have no access to each others bank accounts and do not rely on each other for any type of material gain. I have been made redundant and I am really unsure if I have to mention him or not. I am not someone who would ever make a fraudulent claim, but if they take his income into account I would be getting less and he would not be willing to support me financially (and I wouldn't want to ask). Do I have to declare him as a partner or should I just keep quiet about this? Does anyone know the legal definition of a partner?
