Open Question: Question regarding paradoxes of immigration, race and poverty in America.?
This is an essay question that has stumped me and I'm looking more for ideas than anything else.
Give an example from the experiences of American ethnic or racial groups of how each of the three Paradoxes of American Society played themselves out in American history. Then explain how the two possible definitions of equality, and the difficulty of reconciling those definitions, underlies the way the paradoxes took shape in each individual example you've chosen
The additional detail on paradoxes and equality that is needed to understand the question is:
The paradox of poverty in America is that, in the richest and most prosperous country on earth, where so many citizens have been able to acquire the " middle-class" living standard of home ownership, adequate transportation, a safe neighborhood with decent services, and adequate schools for their children, there are still people who are systematically denied economic access to such things. Moreover, many in the latter category also lack access to adequate food, clothing, shelter, and health care; they experience scarcity in a supposed land of plenty.
The paradox of race in America is that despite the nation's professed dedication to freedom, democracy, and the equality of all people, much of the country's social and political system involves (whether consciously or not, whether de jure or de facto), a systematic unequal access to benefits and opportunities, based upon ones background and ancestral place of origin.
The paradox of immigration in America is that the same freedom that allows people from other countries to come to the United States and make economic, political, and social advancements, also allows those same people to deny such opportunities to people who come to America after them. Historically, this paradox has occurred both in the employment practices of private businesses (both officially and unofficially), and in government immigration legislation. On a social level, this freedom has allowed some private organizations to exist in America that celebrate how their own group was able to succeed in the United States, while opposing the presence and the influence of people from different countries who try to achieve the same success. Pedraza calls this paradox a contradiction of "nativism in a land of immigrants." *
All these paradoxes revolve around different meanings of a single concept: equality. What does it mean that all people in America should have "equality"? Does that mean equality of opportunity (meaning everybody starts at the same level at the starting gate) or equality of results (meaning everyone should wind up at the same place at the finish line)? In current American reality, neither condition totally exists. The so-called "playing field" is not level at either end.
The "equality of opportunity" argument is criticized because there are groups who've had obstacles placed in their path in the past, which means that they' ll always be at a disadvantage in pursuing opportunities in the present-so the opportunities are not truly made available to all on an "equal" basis.
The "equality of results" argument is also criticized because some fear that it will involve assisting individuals based upon the group they belong to (and that group's historic oppression), and thus discriminating against members of groups who did not suffer that same oppression. So the question of how to reconcile the ideal of individual equality, with the reality of group inequality, has yet to be answered.
moreOpen Question: How important is sex in a relationship? What is the definition of bad sex?
I've been in a relationship for going on 2 years in December. I've been in 2 previous relationships, and both guys were pretty good in bed, younger too. I've tried to be patient, I'm not one of those girls who thinks that sex makes up for 90% of the relationship, but it is important to me, to have enjoyable sex and express love in this way. My current boyfriend has this thing that happens, and I'd like to know if any guys out there can relate or if any women can relate to dealing with this?
We could both be totally turned on, ready to go, he'll put on a condom, then suddenly decide that he wants to go make a sandwich or grab a beer, before we get started. When he comes back in the room, he's completely limp and says that the condom makes it hard for him to stay erect somehow. I asked him since were not planning on having kids anytime soon, then we just won't be having sex then? I understand that things happen sometimes, but this is a reoccurring thing, and quite frankly a little frustrating. He says he doesn't have to go to the doctor and refuses to make the attempt. It's not so much the fact that it happens, it's more his nonchalance about the fact that I'm unsatisfied sexually. He'll just look at me like "Ah well, maybe next time", after I'm all hot and bothered and I just have to roll over and accept that? Wtf? How long should I deal with this and his attitude, and have you ever dealt with anything like this? Male or female...thanks in advance?

#1
Glibness/Superficial Charm
Language can be used without effort by them to confuse and convince their audience. Captivating storytellers that exude self-confidence, they can spin a web that intrigues others. Since they are persuasive, they have the capacity to destroy their critics verbally or emotionally.
#2
Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They dominate and humiliate their victims.
#3
Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as "their right." Craves adulation and attendance. Must be the center of attention with their own fantasies as the "spokesman for God," "enlightened," "leader of humankind," etc. Creates an us-versus-them mentality.
#4
Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and able to pass lie detector tests.
#5
Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.
#6
Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion, it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.
#7
Incapacity for Love
While they talk about "God's love" they are unable to give or receive it. Since they do not believe in the genuineness of their followers' love, they are very harsh in testing it from their devotees and expect them to feel guilt for their failings. Expects unconditional surrender.
#8
Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge, yet testing the beliefs of their followers with bizarre rules, punishments and behaviors. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal.
#9
Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them. Their skills are used to exploit, abuse and exert power. Since the follower cannot believe their leader would callously hurt them, they rationalize the behavior as necessary for their (or the group's) own "good" and deny the abuse. When devotees become aware of the exploitation it feels like a "spiritual rape" to them.
#10
Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others. The followers only see them as near perfect.
#11
Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.
#12
Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blame their followers or others outside their group. Blame reinforces passivity and obedience and produces guilt, shame, terror and conformity in the followers.
#13
Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity
Totalist leaders frequently practice promiscuity, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual acting out of all sorts. This is usually kept hidden from all but the inner circle. Stringent sexual control of their followers, such as forced breakups and divorces, removal of children from parents, rules for dating, etc.
#14
Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future. Many groups claim as their goal world-domination or other utopian promises. Great contrast between the leader's opulent lifestyle and the followers' impoverishment. Support by gifts and donations from the followers who are pressured to give through fear and guilt. Highly sensitive to their own pain and health#15
Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
Changes their image and that of the group as needed to avoid prosecution and to increase income and to recruit a range of members. Is able to adapt or relocate as needed to preserve the group. Can resurface later with a new name, a new front group and a new twist on the scam.

(I'm not saying they don't exsist, I'm just saying the definition of 'normal' has gotten so narrow that there really is no 'normal' anymore.)

moreOpen Question: Is the Upscaling Technology included in Windows 7 Ultimate only or what?
Hi. I tested the beta version of windows 7 when it was first released long time ago but it was Windows 7 Ultimate Edition as you may know, the nice thing is that the videos I was watching were just standard definition (ordinary videos downloaded from YouTube .mp4 or other videos like .avi .mpg .DivX etc…) despite that the picture was looking sparkling when I investigated the reason searching on the internet I found out that that was a feature called Upscaling Technology which adjusts the brightness the sharpness the colours’ depth to make the video look like High Definition.
The odd thing is that now I bought a Toshiba laptop A500 – 1GL with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit as a preinstalled operating software and I was eager to see the same superb results that I saw on the beta version of Windows 7 Ultimate but I was disappointed because the videos were looking in a Standard Definition as they used to look on my old XP machine.
Despite my laptop has an HD screen and very sophisticated features I still can’t view my videos in like High Definition!
I guess the only logical reason could be 1 of 2 reasons:
1.Either Microsoft released Upscaling Technology in the Ultimate version of Windows 7 to encourage people to upgrade to it or buy it since it is more expensive than the Home Premium version or.
2.Microsoft removed the Upscaling Technology from all Windows 7 full retail versions so that it can be include in any future versions of the not yet known Windows operating software which may be released in few years time, again to give people a reason to buy the new operating software that will follow Windows 7.
Since I don’t know which reason is right I need your help, if I can’t view the video in High Definition because I have the Home Premium version of Windows 7 then I will upgrade to Ultimate, but is the reason was that that feature is actually removed and doesn’t exist in any version on Windows 7 then there is no point of spending money on an upgrade that won’t make a difference.
So is the Upscaling Technology included in Windows 7 Ultimate only or what?
All the hardware of my new sexy laptop is mentioned below.

moreOpen Question: A guy I know offered to teach me how to make out. Do I take him up on it?
I'll call him J. He's a sort-of friend of some of my best girl-friends. He has a rep as a player/man-whore; freshman and sophomore year he dated/made-out-with a new girl every other week. One of these friends - I'll call her T - dated him for a day freshman year. All three friends decry him as totally sketchy. To be honest, until recently I had a similar perspective.
This past week my friends and I graduated from high school. We were celebrating at a friends' house and J was there. T was on his lap and he was feeling her up within minutes, and they stayed like that for most of the night. I was sitting on the same couch on the other side of T, and at some point J started feeling me up too. His hand never strayed further than my legs, but every time I got up he tried to get me to sit on his lap. Early on my friends and I retreated to another room, where T told me that J planned on kissing me by the end of the night, and the rest of them decided to run interference the whole night so that wouldn't happen. He left before we crashed for the night.
To be honest, I was so turned on I would have made out with J that night. The next evening I was on Facebook and he IMed me. (He wanted to know why my friends kept dragging me away every time I ended up on his lap.) During the course of our conversation I learned that he'd kissed 62 girls since 6th grade, but that it's just something he does because he's good at it. (Obviously, he enjoys it too. I know. He's a guy.) He knew from before that I've only ever kissed one guy, and he aptly observed that making out is a big deal to me because of that. He suggested that I make out with someone who is more experienced so I can learn how.
I'd told him that I didn't want to make out with him, not because of the number of girls before me, but because I assumed that his expectations would be higher. I really want to learn how to kiss, but I don't want to have sex (and my definition includes both kinds of oral). He told me that he could teach me how, and that he respects boundaries. We'd go as far as I wanted and then he'd stop. He also said "don't worry, i'll take care of you. it's what i do."
We left things open-ended, but I'm planning to go for it. I feel like I can trust him to stop because he could be making it with any other girl. (His job involves working at music gigs, and he goes to big parties most weekends, so I have no doubt of that.) I'm not telling my friends because they'd tell me not to - even T, who complained about how he was feeling her up the next morning, but that night was the one who sat on his lap and the one who started making out with him, so I don't really care about her opinion in this situation.
I just wanted to hear what someone else thought about all of this. Also, if I do decide to go for it, what measures should I take to make sure I'll be safe? I have my own vehicle and a cell phone. Finally, he asked if I cared where. I really have no idea what to say to that. I feel like his house might be too much pressure, but the front or back or a car would be really uncomfortable...
Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks.
moreOpen Question: What is the meaning of pride in the biblical sense?
Is it pride to fall off your horse and then get back on that horse only to show back up to church because someone from the church called you? The call made me feel like I had a friend there and I was wanted. Is that pride, to show back up because someone called you? I thought I felt shame. I felt like I had disappointed everyone and GOD...I thought it was shame. I wanted to run because I was so sad that I had sinned so openly.
Now, if you are truly a giving person, and someone tells you a story of how a person they knew did the same thing. They gave, and noticed little details, but it was hiding the sin of pride...can that be possible, that I am hiding pride?
What is the definition of pride in the biblical sense. What is it exactly? How does it creep up on you, and how does pride feel?
If I know that people have talked bad about me in the past, and sometimes still get that sense, is that pride? I am kind of confused about this pride thing. Can anyone tell me their experiences with pride they had themselves.
I really feel like I do things out of the kindness of my heart. I feel like I give because I want to. I felt like I did not want to go back for fear of the disappointment people would feel. How I let GOD down and the people. The call was the push I needed to go back...so what in the world is pride? How do you see it coming? Please help. Scripture please! Thank you.

moreOpen Question: Doesn't thel brainwashing techneiques used Milataries sound a lot like how Christianity works?
While most psychologists believe that brainwashing is possible under the right conditions, some see it as improbable or at least as a less severe form of influence than the media portrays it to be. Some definitions of brainwashing require the presence of the threat of physical harm, and under these definitions most extremist cults do not practice true brainwashing since they typically do not physically abuse recruits. Other definitions rely on "nonphysical coercion and control" as an equally effective means of asserting influence. Regardless of which definition you use, many experts believe that even under ideal brainwashing conditions, the effects of the process are most often short-term -- the brainwashing victim's old identity is not in fact eradicated by the process, but instead is in hiding, and once the "new identity" stops being reinforced the person's old attitudes and beliefs will start to return.
There are psychologists who say the apparent conversion of American POWs during the Korean War was the result of plain-old torture, not "brainwashing." And in fact, most POWs in the Korean War were not converted to communism at all, which leads to the question of reliability: Is brainwashing a system that produces similar results across cultures and personality types, or does it hinge primarily on the target's susceptibility to influence? In the next section, we'll examine one expert's description of the brainwashing process and find out what makes an easy target.
Brainwashing Techniques

American POWs in the
Korean War
In the late 1950s, psychologist Robert Jay Lifton studied former prisoners of Korean War and Chinese war camps. He determined that they'd undergone a multistep process that began with attacks on the prisoner's sense of self and ended with what appeared to be a change in beliefs. Lifton ultimately defined a set of steps involved in the brainwashing cases he studied:
Assault on identity
Guilt
Self-betrayal
Breaking point
Leniency
Compulsion to confess
Channeling of guilt
Releasing of guilt
Progress and harmony
Final confession and rebirth
Each of these stages takes place in an environment of isolation, meaning all "normal" social reference points are unavailable, and mind-clouding techniques like sleep deprivation and malnutrition are typically part of the process. There is often the presence or constant threat of physical harm, which adds to the target's difficulty in thinking critically and independently.
We can roughly divide the process Lifton identified into three stages: breaking down the self, introducing the possibility of salvation, and rebuilding the self.
Breaking down the self
Assault on identity: You are not who you think you are.
This is a systematic attack on a target's sense of self (also called his identity or ego) and his core belief system. The agent denies everything that makes the target who he is: "You are not a soldier." "You are not a man." "You are not defending freedom." The target is under constant attack for days, weeks or months, to the point that he becomes exhausted, confused and disoriented. In this state, his beliefs seem less solid.
Guilt: You are bad.
While the identity crisis is setting in, the agent is simultaneously creating an overwhelming sense of guilt in the target. He repeatedly and mercilessly attacks the subject for any "sin" the target has committed, large or small. He may criticize the target for everything from the "evilness" of his beliefs to the way he eats too slowly. The target begins to feel a general sense of shame, that everything he does is wrong.
Self-betrayal: Agree with me that you are bad.
Once the subject is disoriented and drowning in guilt, the agent forces him (either with the threat of physical harm or of continuance of the mental attack) to denounce his family, friends and peers who share the same "wrong" belief system that he holds. This betrayal of his own beliefs and of people he feels a sense of loyalty to increases the shame and loss of identity the target is already experiencing.
Breaking point: Who am I, where am I and what am I supposed to do?
With his identity in crisis, experiencing deep shame and having betrayed what he has always believed in, the target may undergo what in the lay community is referred to as a "nervous breakdown." In psychology, "nervous breakdown" is really just a collection of severe symptoms that can indicate any number of psychological disturbances. It may involve uncontrollable sobbing, deep depression and general disorientation. The target may have lost his grip on reality and have the feeling of being completely lost and alone.

So I just spent the last 6 months losing weight. All by cutting my calories, and running with some light cardio workouts. I now weight 150 pounds, I'm 5'11, and 20 years old. I got rid of most my excess fat, and have noticed some of my muscles are starting to firm up.
Phase 1 is done.
Now that I lost the weight, I want to build some muscle on top. I have developed a pretty good body frame, long and lean. Now I want to gain lean muscle, with definition. (Brad Pitt in Fight Club, not Arnold Schwarzenegger.) I'm just scared that if I start weight training I'm going to get big, and lose my body frame. I want to keep my size, and just build some lean muscle.
For the diet, I want to change it up, because my last diet was built around mainly losing weight. Now I want to develop some kind of diet built around gaining muscle, but maintaining my current weight. I don't know what kind of foods are good for that, or if I should take some vitamin supplements.
For the exercise, I'm not sure about. What can I do to gain muscle, but avoid getting big? I'm considering taking some whey protein, or maybe some creatine, but then again I'm scared taking those might make me go up in weight.
Any help or advise is welcome. Thanks in advance.

The words are Literally and Literately. I know what literally means, but it would be nice to have a good definition. I'm just making sure.

I recently came across this phrase in a comedy article in The Onion. The context was something like "and you would have to be a regular queer columbo to find the gay district in that town". "love" and "friendship"?
My husband is actually still grieving the loss of "friends" who no longer speak to him since he and his ex-wife split. He said that he loved these people, and that they loved him, too, but they simply cut off all communication after the divorce.
I suggested to him that his sense of loss was misplaced, since -- if they really loved him -- they wouldn't behave that way. Neither would a true friend, for that matter. I voiced my opinion only because the situation seems to cause him real pain, and I hate to see him feeling bad over people who aren't worth it (in my opinion).
He insists that my definitions of Love and Friendship are too narrow. What do you think?Pangel -- I agree with you, also. I hope he continues to feel love and friendship toward them, too. I just don't want him to feel such sorrow over THEIR behavior.
Love doesn't want, and Love shouldn't suffer, either.Steve -- no, she even admitted he was never abusive to her. She, on the other hand, went after him with a weapon more than once, and there are still marks on the walls of this house from her throwing things at him.Brian -- are you saying that he's going to miss them, anyway, whether or not they're worth it?
Hmmm...I guess so. Perhaps there's nothing I can say to him that will help, in reality.

moreOpen Question: what does this dream definition exactly mean?
To dream that people or objects are disappearing right before your eyes, signify your anxieties and insecurities over the notion that loved ones might disappear out of your life. You feel that you cannot depend on anyone and that you will end up alone. You need to work on your self-image and self-esteem.
Alternatively, to dream that someone is disappearing, suggests that you may not have given sufficient attention to those aspects/qualities of that person within your own self. Have you lost touch with some aspect of yourself? If your lover is disappearing, then it suggests that your love or interest for them is fading.
moreOpen Question: What is the best way to rehabilitate antisemites?
I asked previously, but I didn't find the arguments made very convincing.
BMB (Girl) asserted: "Anti-semetism exists, but it's not a logical thing. So rehabilitation that might logically work, wouldn't help anything."
Mental illnesses are almost by definition irrational behaviors and yet there are perfectly rational ways to treat most of them. I also don't know that I would agree that antisemitism is entirely illogical. If your only exposure to Jews and Jewish thought came through the writings of Shahak, Finkelstein, Kevin McDonald, Stormfront, heretical.com, Holocaust deniers and the rest, then it might be very difficult to see the truth. In fact, much of this literature is likely to make someone resistant to accepting truths staring them in the face.
scaerdrys said: "You can't rehabilitate a bigot; whatever improvement they get will have to come from a personal re-evaluation of their ideologies."
The same could be said for any belief, but clearly there are experiences that lead people to re-evaluate their thinking. Re-evaluation doesn't occur in a vacuum. What are those experiences?
scaerdrys also said: "The notion that you can educate away bigotry is silly---it's an elitist notion that the educated can't be bigots when history proves otherwise."
My feeling is that most hardcore antisemites are miseducated, not uneducated. This is one of the things that makes dealing with them so difficult. The uneducated bigot can be corrected by exposure. A rural southerner who just doesn't like blacks can meet a nice black family and realize that not all blacks exhibit the behaviors he associates with blacks.
Serious antisemitism isn't based upon a few primitives like the idea that Jews are cheap or stingy. If it was, then it would be easy to correct and fairly harmless. While antisemites may be simple bigots, they are almost always more than that. Antisemitism presumes a dark and conspiratorial view of the world. The simple bigot isn't necessarily afraid of the people he hates, but the antisemite is genuinely afraid that something diabolical is occurring in the world. Nobody believes there is a vast international conspiracy by blacks, Hispanics, or Asians but many think Jews run the show. Antisemites typically share more in common with 9/11 truthers than they do with simple bigots.
The question is what measures can you use to convince the antisemite--or any other conspiracy theorist--to rethink things.@Drake: That's besides the point. I don't support restrictions on speech in Europe and I did not support the imprisonment of David Irving in Austria. However, these restrictions arose for historical reasons (i.e. Nazi Germany). I think speech restrictions are counterproductive because they give ammo to those who believe in conspiratorial Jewish control of the world.
moreOpen Question: Does obama's choice for Department of Labor show Barack's commitment to leaving our borders unprotected?
President Obama’s Labor Secretary Hilda Solis is supposed to represent American workers. What you need to know is that this longtime open-borders sympathizer has always had a rather radical definition of “American.” At a Latino voter registration project conference in Los Angeles many years ago, Solis asserted to thunderous applause, “We are all Americans, whether you are legalized or not.”
That’s right. The woman in charge of enforcing our employment laws doesn’t give a hoot about our immigration laws — or about the fundamental distinction between those who followed the rules in pursuit of the American dream and those who didn’t.
While in Congress, she opposed strengthening the border fence, supported expansion of illegal alien benefits (including driver’s licenses and in-state tuition discounts), embraced sanctuary cities that refused to cooperate with federal homeland security officials to enforce immigration laws, and aggressively championed a mass amnesty.

moreOpen Question: Why don't doctors keep sensible hours?
I'm the sort of person who has a day job, and a chronic medical condition. But every doctor I meet seems to want me to come in at 10:00 in the morning. When I say, "No, I can't do that, I have a job," they say, ok, I can take you late in the day, how about 3:00? I fail to see how 3:00 meets anyone's definition of late in the day, when the average worker is stuck in work and traffic until at least 6.
I'm fairly certain that I'm not the only person with this situation.
So why is it so hard for me to find a doctor who will meet me at a time that works for me? Is it so hard for a doctor to meet me at 6:00 or 7:30 AM? I'll settle for a nurse practitioner. Of course I can go to the ER after hours. But really all I need is a refill of my prescription, and even for benign drugs like those I take (not pain killers, not narcotics, not steroids, not abusable in any way) apparently an ER doctor will generally refuse to give more than a 10 day supply. It ends up that my only options are, neglect my medical needs, take a sick day more than monthly and put my job in peril, or spend $50 a week on ER copays.
For that matter, what is up with this 9-5 thing in the first place? Whose brilliant idea was it to make

.....for them to earn their coveted monthly "Satan's helper" award?
And don't you just want to laugh at those brainwashed "they're a cult!" fanatics? It's like "monkey see, monkey do"........these people don't have any idea what a cult is, other than going by either their own personal (ignorant) opinion or by jumping on the bandwagon of their fellow hate group buddies. They're all puppets on strings held by Satan.
I do laugh at them, but at the same time I pity them because they allow themselves to be brainwashed that way. They don't know what a cult is and if they even cared to find an accurate definition of one, they'd see that the term doesn't apply to Jehovah's Witnesses. Apparently they find it more comforting to stay on the bandwagon of ignorance and hate rather than hop off and get their facts straight.

moreOpen Question: Who estimates "jobs saved" if you can't actually measure this statistic?
You can COUNT "jobs created".
But Obama has changed the definition (changed it twice actually) to be "jobs created OR saved OR funded". Now politically, this is borderline genius because you can literally make the numbers whatever you need them to be. (assuming people don't get wise to the game...)
So who makes this estimate if you can't actually count this statistic?? Does this come from the White House directly or what??
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124451592762396883.html
Mr. Fratto sees a double standard at play. "We would never have used a formula like 'save or create,'" he tells me. "To begin with, the number is pure fiction -- the administration has no way to measure how many jobs are actually being 'saved.' And if we had tried to use something this flimsy, the press would never have let us get away with it."
Of course, the inability to measure Mr. Obama's jobs formula is part of its attraction. Never mind that no one -- not the Labor Department, not the Treasury, not the Bureau of Labor Statistics -- actually measures "jobs saved." As the New York Times delicately reports, Mr. Obama's jobs claims are "based on macroeconomic estimates, not an actual counting of jobs." Nice work if you can get away with it.
And get away with it he has. However dubious it may be as an economic measure, as a political formula "save or create" allows the president to invoke numbers that convey an illusion of precision. Harvard economist and former Bush economic adviser Greg Mankiw calls it a "non-measurable metric." And on his blog, he acknowledges the political attraction.
"The expression 'create or save,' which has been used regularly by the President and his economic team, is an act of political genius," writes Mr. Mankiw. "You can measure how many jobs are created between two points in time. But there is no way to measure how many jobs are saved. Even if things get much, much worse, the President can say that there would have been 4 million fewer jobs without the stimulus."

Not only does NY have better positioning in terms of cap space than Miami but NY has better players as well I believe. I mean Dwyane Wade is better than anyone that is on the Knicks roster currently. But even though our best player David Lee is not exactly Dwyane Wade he can put up Wade stat lines from game to game and like Wade Lee may be in the top tier of players in his own position. Wade can carry a team better because he is more experienced and an established superstar, but Lee is getting better and better every year and he's better than anyone else on Miami's roster. If NY finds a way to keep him in NY we can attract more stars than MIA.
Danilo Gallinari/Wilson Chandler are very promising players. I would take them over Michael Beasley (who was billed as a promising player himself). Beasley has somewhat disappointed and has been giving chances to prove his worth. I mean when Wade was out for those stretches of games Beasley had that 1 big game against Minnesota, but other than that did nothing and MIA lost like what almost 10 games in a row? Gallo & Chandler have shown the ability to carry games offensively.
Al Harrington ( who may or may not be kept is better than anyone else on MIA that isn't Wade)
Toney Douglas & Bill Walker are better than Mario Chalmers and a lot of their bench players.
Jermaine O'Neal is still good but not as good as what he once was. And even with that he may be their most consistent 2nd go-to-guy after Wade. Haslem is the definition of underrated. Although both these guys are FA's up in years in their NBA careers and may go elsewhere. MIA most likely would overpay to keep their younger FA's like Wright & Chalmers who really have disappointed so far in their NBA careers. And they are likely stuck with resigning Q.Rich (who is a chucker) cause no one may want his laziness on their team.
I mean say they do get another star for Wade (if Wade stays). It would be Wade and that star with not much else. If NY keeps Lee & maybe even Harrington they would also have Gallo, Chandler, Douglas, & Walker combine that with FA help and that team is better built for success than MIA.
