Pancreatitis And Alcohol Questions and Answers
Resolved Question: Getting Acute Pancreatitis- help...?
When I was 11 years old I was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. I had never had any alcohol in my life so that one is off the list. I had to have a nasogastric tube in me for 3 and a half days while on a IV and i wasn't allowed to be put back onto liquids for another two weeks. when i kept the water down they moved me onto food and eventually they let me out. in outpatients, i saw every specialist that i could and i had ever scan and test available including that for gallstones and billias slat, and its neither of them. I had numerous MRCP scans and ultrasounds, both showed nothing, my family and i also had a test done to see if this was hereditoy in my family or if i could give it to my children should i ever have any. the results said no. In the end they put me down to an UNKNOWN CAUSE. 4 years later (just a few weeks ago) I got acute pancreatitis again and then had a relapse after that, i had to go through the whole traumatic experience again with tubes, scans and an IV and i am now back at home recovering. in a few weeks i will have another MRCP scan. HOWEVER I NEED YOUR HELP i know that these scans will just come up with nothing again, but i am very anxious to find out what causes this, anything at all apart from the mentioned above. If there are any nurses or doctors out there who could shed some possible light on this matter i would be very grateful. Right now i have been put on 15mg of lansoprazole to have everymorning before food. and i am on a BLAND diet. if that helps. also anyone who has been or is in a similar situation then please feel free to email me =]Also thanks to anyone who replys with sensible replys. I know that im not going to get a straight 'this is whats wrong with you' i just think you guys might have some ideas of your own that are not in books and that you will explain it better to me than a bunch of doctors who use way too many long and technical words that just give you a headache and make you not want to ask another question x moreResolved Question: Will Pancreatitis caused by gallstones go away if the stones are removed?
If I have pancreatitis caused by gallstones, and the gallstones are removed, will the pancreatitis go away to the point where I can drink alcohol again? I have a trip to France next year, and I was really looking forward to a bottle of wine. I understand that you should never drink with pancreatitis, but is the condition permanent if the cause is removed? This is something I'm going to ask my doctor, but I won't see him for a while and wanted to know sooner rather than later. moreResolved Question: pancreatitis and drinking alcohol?
i was in the hospital for 2 weeks with pancreatitis and have been out for about a week....i am feeling okay but am wondering when i can have alcohol....in moderation of course.....and not hard alcohol....wine or beer would be fine.... moreResolved Question: I suffered one bout of acute pancreatitis, 8 months ago, caused by alcohol. Will i be able to drink again?
I was in hospital for a week, on IV and morphine. I was released and gradually built up my appetite again. It was confirmed to not have been caused by gal stones, and most likely instead, alcohol. I have not touched a drop for 7 months now. Will i ever be able to drink again? Get drunk again? I'm only 26 and otherwise healthy. moreResolved Question: question on pancreatitis?
I had an attack of acute pancreatitis about 4 years ago. This was due to other causes and not alcohol abuse, I have never been much of a drinker. However, after this attack (Ihave never had one since), I have stuck to a healthy, low fat diet and I was advised not to drink any alcohol. Would it be ok for me to have a glass of wine now and again (i mean like just on special occasions, birthdays etc)? I must stress again, im not a heavy drinker and this was not the cause of my pancreatitis. (I only keep putting that because a lot of people who, when you say you have that condition, immediately think that you are an alcoholic! moreResolved Question: I have been in hospital for a week with acute pancreatitis and fluid on my lungs ne resting advice?

there is dense bone calcification on the tail end of my pancreas, can someone recommend a cure for my condition, i dont consume alcohol, and my pancreas is cery painful. Will somebody out ther please help me! moreResolved Question: I asked a question earlier about hot water bottle burns on my back?
the pain in my back eventually ended up resulting in a trip in an ambulance to hospital, I had been ignoring this pain for literally months (More fearful of hospital than the illness!), and ended up being diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis.I have therefore stuck rigidly to a low fat diet, no alcohol, and have lost 3 stone over a period of 8 months, but I have been really watching and reading all food labels for fat content, (a good diet for anybody reading this), but none of the doctors have actually told me if I can actually be totally cured or if I have this for life! and even if I can live without one because, I let myself get so ill I nearly died I am sure, so I was told anyway, (if it had burst at home, i think), So Dr Frank if you are there can you give me a really good summary about it and indeed anybody out there who knows, and also instead of feeling like a numpty on the pub (this ones for you Dr. Frank) is it Ok to have alcohol free beer, so that I kinda fit in a bit? moreResolved Question: Help........!!!!!!?
Following a bout of acute pancreatitis and pending the removal of my gall bladder (10-14 weeks), I'm banned from eating any 'fatty' food or having any alcohol whatsoever. I'm having cheesecake hallucinations and I swear I can smell wine. What's a girl to do!!!!!! moreResolved Question: pancreatitis (ouch it hurts), have just come out of hospital and wonder is anybody knows?
what foods in particular can help cure this problem, i have been told low fat diet, nothing spicy etc and no alcohol and to go back in six weeks for another scan when hopefully it wil have lost its inflammation! are there any particular super foods to help or are there any herbal remedies that can help, in fact any advice would be welcome, I have been given no specific medication except for painkillers and as said have to go extremenly low fat, no alcohol and gentle foods, any specific vitamins, any specialists or doctors, nurses or suffererers even, help me get rid if this pleeeeeeeze! extreme pain now gone so am on the mend thankyou if you reply moreResolved Question: Pancreatitis?
