Pancreatitis Death Questions and Answers
Resolved Question: I have a Hiatus hernia and read this case report could this happen to me if had similar symptoms?
A 24-year-old white woman arrived at the emergency room complaining of sharp, left-sided abdominal pain over a 24 to 36 hour period. The pain was initially limited to her left abdomen, which gradually spread to the epigastric area and intensified, particularly while taking deep breaths. Other symptoms included nausea and vomiting. Upon palpation, her abdomen was soft with slight tenderness in the left upper quadrant and epigastrium. She had apparently experienced similar discomforts 6 months prior to admission, but the pain resolved itself after 1 to 2 hours. As a result, she had not sought medical assistance. An abdominal CT scan was performed 4 hours following admission to rule out pancreatitis and a chest CT scan at 5 and one-half hours to rule out diaphragmatic rupture. While returning to the ER from her CT scans, the decedent appeared to be hyperventilating with shortness of breath and her abdominal pain began radiating to the midsternal region. Seven minutes later, she became unresponsive, apneic, and pulseless. Death was pronounced approximately 40 minutes later, a little more than 6 hours after admission. The decedent did not have a significant medical history; she did not smoke or drink alcohol and was not pregnant either before or at the time of her death. Neither she nor her mother could recall any previous traumatic or physically strenuous episode at any point that may have elicited the decedent's discomforts. Autopsy was performed approximately 5 hours after pronouncement. The decedent's external examination did not reveal any discernible injuries or other abnormalities. Internal examination revealed a 4-cm defect of the left hemidiaphragm with smooth edges through which the omentum, severely dilated and fluid-filled stomach, transverse colon, and a portion of the spleen had herniated into the left chest cavity. There was no excess fluid present in either the pleural, pericardial, or peritoneal cavities. Both lungs were edematous and showed scattered anthracosis; the left lung was collapsed. The liver was also mildly congested with severe hepatomegaly. Toxicology revealed only the presence of caffeine. moreResolved Question: What do you think is the worst human invention?
My answer would be alcoholic drink. Here are the reasons why.The maximum number of deaths in the world related to any one particular cause is due to the consumption of alcohol. Millions of people die every year only because of intake of alcohol. I need not go into the details of all the ill-effects of alcohol since most of them are commonly known. Below is a simple list of few of the alcohol related illnesses: a. Cirrhosis of Liver is the most well known alcohol associated disease. b. Others are Cancer of Oesophagus, Cancer of Head and Neck, Cancer of Liver (Hepatoma), Cancer of Bowel, etc. c. Oesophagitis, Gastritis, Pancreatitis and Hepatitis are linked with alcohol consumption. d. Cardiomyopathy, Hypertension, Coronary Artherosclerosis, Angina and Heart Attacks are linked with heavy alcohol intakes. e. Strokes, Apoplexy, Fits and different types of Paralysis are linked with alcohol intake. f. Peripheral Neuropathy, Cortical Atrophy, Cerebellar Atrophy are well-known syndromes caused by alcohol consumption. g. Wernicke – Korsakoff syndrome with amnesia of recent events, confabulations and retainment of memory to old events with different types of paralysis are mainly due to thiamine deficiency due to excessive alcohol intake. h. Beriberi and other deficiencies are not uncommon among alcoholics. Even Pellagra occurs in alcoholics. i. Delerium Tremens is a serious complication that may occur during recurrent infection of alcoholics or post operatively. It also occurs during abstention as a sign of withdrawal effect. It is quite serious and may cause death even if treated in well equipped centres. j. Numerous Endocrine Disorders have been associated with alcoholism ranging from Myxodema to Hyperthyroidism and Florid Cushing Syndrome. k. Hematological ill effects are long and variable. Folic acid deficiency, however, is the most common manifestation of alcoholic abuse resulting in Macrocytic Anemia. Zeive’s syndrome is a triad of Hemolytic Anemia, Jaundice and Hyperlipaedemia that follows alcoholic binges. l. Thrombocytopenia and other platelet abnormalities are not rare in alcoholics. m. The commonly used tablet metronidazole (flagyl) interacts badly with alcohol. n. Recurrent infection is very common among chronic alcoholics. The resistance to disease and the immunological defense system are compromised by alcohol intake. o. Chest infections are notorious in alcoholics. Pneumonia, Lung Abcess, Emphysema and Pulmonary Tuberculosis are all common in alcoholics. p. During acute alcoholic intoxication, the drunk person usually vomits, the cough reflexes which are protective are paralysed. The vomitus thus easily pass to the lung causing Pneumonia or Lung Abscess. Occasionally it may even cause suffocation and death. q. The ill effects of alcohol consumption on women deserves special mention. Females are more vulnerable to alcohol-related Cirrhosis than men. During pregnancy alcohol consumption has a severe detrimental effect on the foetus. Foetal Alcohol Syndrome is being recognised more and more in the medical profession. r. Skin diseases are also related to alcohol indulgence. s. Eczema, Alopecia, Nail Dystrophy, Paronychia (infection around the nails) and Angular Stomatitis (inflammation of the angle of the mouth) are common diseases among alcoholics. moreResolved Question: I just found out from emergency room visit - Pancreatitis?
I've been separated for over a year from husband, he was recently laid off lost insurance coverage. I have outstanding bill with doctor so he refuses to see me, the emergency room runs the same tests and says go see your doctor- So, what I am asking; Does anyone know of Care Treatment facilities that may treat me? I want to go to work! I think I've been given a death sentence with no hope. I've also been dating a guy (I've had a crush on for 28yrs-Iwas15 the first time I saw his beautiful green eyes-and perfectly chiseled face-but never told anyone until this past November when we crossed paths again-as we have thru the yrs-and he turned around to give me a very warm firm hug and invited me to dinner with his friends-he doesn't want to believe I am...ill and his people are telling him to drop me because there is "something" wrong with her. I feel like he should too-I have nothing to offer him but pain and misery and loss eventually death in my heart I believe he loves me and would do anything he could to help IF there IS any help out there) I have three children 22,11,8-&5yr old granddaughter, that I have been in so much pain and NO energy But my mind says GO!!! so much to say and so many questions-I have looked up pancrepancreatic I've seen some surgical precedures and have heard one doctor say if they get to it too late the surguries will not prolong life expectancy-only removal of the painful dead cells that block the ducts that secrete the enzymes, but with no car, job, money, insurance All I have is God. and I've been a terrible Christian, making promises with all good intent and falling short every time one thing or another I do not deserve a miraculous healing from God but I do need One (or about a million little miracles) to pull something together so my son can have a chance at life-he is mamas' "BOY" he loves his mom and wants to go with me when I go-He can play piano, drums, guitar and praises God-Loves Jesus but the friends he has do not go to church my estranged husband refused to pray with me or surrender his lustful greed (I"LL just stop there) he was not a positive influence for either of us, I have regrets I got away last year-because I wanted to take one more chance at having a good life and pursue happiness less hatred around me more happy -doesn't look like that is going to happen. How can I find out if anyone has an insurance policy on me? I am curious as to how from sept to now I am in so much pain-agony words cannot describe-I am sorry I am not practiced at the art of short n sweet and keep emotion out of it-I have no clue where to turn, the hospital told me to see my doctor, the doctor wants his money (I don't blame him I just need to get to work so I can pay him moreResolved Question: Why is evolution just a belief? What are the real world results of mutations?
. The cardiovascular system, it has long been recognized that a high circulating cholesterol content in the blood is associated with degeneration and narrowing of large and medium-sized arteries. this process is called “atherosclerosis” and is a leading cause of heart disease. More recently, a genetic biochemical defect causing hereditary high blood levels of cholesterol has been discovered and is know as “familial hypercholesterolemia” At least 350 different disease-producing mutations of the cholesterol receptor have been described . These may be classified according to the affected functional domain. In the first class of mutation, little or no receptor is synthesized at all. In the second, receptor protein is synthesized, but does not take its proper place in the cell membrane. Third, receptor protein is present in the membrane, but does not link with the LDL packages. Fourth, the receptor protein is unable to stay in the membrane. Fifth, receptor protein is present in the membrane and links with the LDL packages, but does not bring them into the cell. None of these are beneficial. A second example is a common genetic disease, cystic fibrosis (CF). This multisystem disease cripples children and leads to early death. It damages the lungs, digestive organs and, in the male, the vas deferens (spermatic duct). Its differing effects, from mild to severe, are in part due to different types of mutation affecting one key gene. In addition to this fairly common mutation, over 200 other mutations of this gene have been described. Just a few of these are associated with the more severe forms of the disease, which lead to early death from lung infections. Other mutations or combinations of mutations lead to lesser disease states, like chronic pancreatitis or male infertility, but again, no beneficial results have been observed. Carcinogens (agents causing cancer) also tend to be powerful mutagens (agents producing mutations). The discovery of “oncogenes” and “tumor suppressor genes” has shown how this relationship works. Basically, these genes are concerned with regulation of the cell cycle. The oncogenes drive the process of cell replication forward, while the tumor suppressor genes hold it back. Both are necessary for proper cell function and growth. But mutational damage to components of both systems may produce an uncontrolled growth of cells, which is cancer. . The mutation responsible for sickle cell anemia has been put forward as an example of Evolution. The problems with this are obvious, as the sickle cell mutation, like the many other described hemoglobin mutations, clearly impairs the function of the otherwise marvelously well-designed hemoglobin molecule. It can in no way be regarded as an improvement in our species, even though its preservation is enhanced in malaria-endemic parts of central Africa by natural selection. .I agree...it is not micro evolution that creationists have a problem with (adaptive change within a species) it's macro evolution (a 'kind' of animal giving birth to a different 'kind' of animal, i:e a dog giving birth to a cat) Or the bird dinosaur etc.... Adaptation is well seen. But not evolution. . moreResolved Question: how to deal with illness and death...?
my dad passed away july 18th 2009 due to chronic pancreatitis we were constantly in and out of hospitals for 5 years seizures surgeries and constant trips to south carolinas hospitals he was my best friend and fireman for 16 years and a preacher he was so loved and so loving...such an amazing man and im not just saying that because he was my father. i loved him so much, and i cant cope with it everytime i see a fireman etc. i break down, i cant even go to the church they had his funeral at and he helped found that church, i dont know can any one give me some comfort? moreResolved Question: My Dad is Killing Himself.. What More Can I Do?
My Dad is an alcoholic. He also is suffering with Pancreatitis. My Sister and myself have had many talks with him about this and he's cried to us saying how hard it is to quite. He always tells us he's going to stop and he continues to be drunk and beligerant whenever we come over to visit. We can have a heart to heart one night and the next, he's completely wasted. It's so hard because I don't know what to do anymore. I just looked into some rehabs thinking I could afford it but there's just no way! I'm so mad at him because I feel like he doesn't love us. If he did, he'd stop so he could be around. I also have a 4month old son and want my father to be the great grandfather that I know he can be. He gets so drunk that he even says bad things about my son infront of myself and my son because my son is half black. He'll say "Oh, he is a little black baby isn't he?" And I've just had it! It's not acceptable and I can't put up with it any longer. I feel like just giving up and not going around my dad anymore but I feel like as a daughter, it's my responbsibility to do all that I can. I just don't know what that is anymore. I feel like, instead of worrying about how to help him... I should just start preparing myself for his death. What more can I do? What would you do? Any advice helps! Thanks so much! moreResolved Question: do you think eating alot of pasta/noodles and drinking alcohol?

Hello. My best friend just died and I am taking it really har. This is the first death I have ever had to deal with and it's tough because he was 34 and left his 16 year old kid behind who does not have a mother. I was talking with is grandma and she said she found him on his bed bleeding from all orphasis, even his anus, there was a lot of blood. They tried to revive him but could not get a heartbeat. In July 2009 he was diagnosed with pancreatitis and the doctor at the hospital told him if he continued to drink that he would die. He slowed down conciderably. He was an alcoholic, but again was only 34. In the last month he started complaining about terrible abdominal pain, unmanageable abdomainal pain. I did not ever ask in what place of his abdomin was the pain. He did claim that he was urinating blood but did not tell me how much or little and, unfortunately, I didn't ask. The day before he died his grandma said he was working on his truck all day and seemed just fine, she did not mention how he acted the day he died before his death. He used to be addicted to Oxy Cotton, and from what he told me he did not do it anymore, however, I cannot trust that. I know he was doing something a few times a day...mostly at night for about 2 to 3 weeks strait. Everytime I would talk to him he would complain about pain in his stomach and about 4 days before he died was the first time I heard about him ever peeing blood. For those 2 to 3 weeks strait he claimed he was taking 3mg of xanex. Again I know he was messed up when I would talk to him but I cannot guarantee nor am I convinced that it was xanex or jut xanex. He was so messed up when he claimed he was on it that he would have the same symptoms as someone who had been drinking too much. He could have been on a few pain killers (vikodin, perkaset, etc..), it could have been xanex, or it could have been drinking, or it could have been oxy cotton. What I am wondering, is what did he die from...just some possibilities. He bled out of all his orphasis even his anus, so I was thinking maybe he dies from a stomach anyurysm, or liver failure? I just need some closure. We got the autopsy report back today and it suggested further investigation for toxicology (to see about drugs and alcohol and to check the state of his organs), I wont get those results back for another 4 to 6 weeks. I am needing closure and was wondering if anyone educated in this field may know what he ay have died from with the symptoms I have given to you. Any help is appreciated. Thank you. moreResolved Question: Alcohol is forbidden in bible why our shops are selling it?
Prohibition of alcohol in the Bible The Bible prohibits the consumption of alcohol in the following verses: "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging; and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise." [Proverbs 20:1] "And be not drunk with wine." [Ephesians 5:18] 3. Alcohol inhibits the inhibitory centre The human beings possess an inhibitory centre in their brains. This inhibitory centre prevents the person from doing things that he considers wrong. For instance a person does not normally use abusive language while addressing his parents or elders. If he has to answer the call of nature, his inhibitory centre will prevent him from doing so in public. Therefore he uses the toilet. When a person consumes alcohol, the inhibitory centre itself is inhibited. That is precisely the reason that an inebriated person is often found to be indulging in behaviour that is completely uncharacteristic of him. For instance the intoxicated person is found to use abusive and foul language and does not realize his mistake even if he is addressing his parents. Many even urinate in their clothes. Neither do they talk nor walk properly. They even misbehave. 4. Cases of adultery, rape, incest and AIDS are found more among alcoholics According to National Crime Victimization Survey Bureau of Justice (U.S. Department of Justice) in the year 1996 alone everyday on an average 2,713 rapes took place. The statistics tell us that the majority of the rapists, were intoxicated while committing the crime. The same is true in cases of molestation. According to statistics, 8% of Americans commit incest i.e. one in every twelve to thirteen persons in America is involved in incest. Almost all the cases of incest are due to intoxication of one or both the persons involved. One of the major factors associated with the spread of AIDS, the most dreaded disease, is alcoholism. 5. Every alcoholic was initially a social drinker Many may argue in favour of liquor by calling themselves ‘social drinkers’. They claim that they only have one or two pegs and they have self-control and so never get intoxicated. Investigations reveal that every alcoholic started as a social drinker. Not a single alcoholic or drunkard initially starts drinking with the intention of becoming an alcoholic or a drunkard. No social drinker can say that I have been having alcohol for several years and that I have so much self-control that I have never been intoxicated even a single time. 6. If a person is intoxicated just once and commits something shameful, it will remain with him for a lifetime. Suppose a ‘social drinker’ loses his self-control just once. In a state of intoxication he commits rape or incest. Even if the act is later regretted, a normal human being is likely to carry the guilt throughout his life. Both the perpetrator and the victim are irreparably and irreversibly damaged. Diseases associated with alcoholism There are several scientific reasons for the prohibition of consumption of intoxicants i.e. alcohol. This question is about an answer to "Why can't you give onions and grapes to a dog?" about 4 months ago. This one answer got a 'thumbs down'. Why? If you already know which of these foods listed are truly bad for a dog, will you please save me hours and hours of research trying to check which are true? I don't want to make my dog sick, but I don't want to spend my whole life researching every toxic thing on the planet instead of spending time with my family (dog included). If you are SURE you know, please tell me which on the list are incorrect? Please don't guess, as that is not helpful at all. Thanks very much, in advance, for your time and expertise! : ) Here's the answer that got no thumbs-up and one thumbs-down: 1. Onions (Both onions and garlic contain the toxic ingredient Thiosulphate. But onions are more of a danger. Many dog biscuits contain *small* amounts of garlic – garlic contains less of this toxin so huge amounts would need to be consumed to be toxic. And, by the way, this poison builds up the system – it can be toxic in one large dose – or with repeated consumption of small amounts.) 2. Chocolate (Chocolate contains Theobromine, a compound that is a cardiac stimulant and a diuretic. This can be fatal to dogs.) 3. Grapes (Grapes are dangerous because of an unknown substance which is toxic to dogs – affects canine’s kidneys) 4. Raisins (See above.) 5. Most Fruit Pits and Seeds (Contain Cyanogenic Glycosides resulting in cyanide poisoning – though the fruit itself is OK.) 6. Macadamia Nuts (Macadamia nuts contain an unknown substance that is toxic to dogs.) 7. Bones (Most bones should *not* be given (especially chicken bones) because they can splinter and cause laceration of the digestive system and/or become lodged in your pet’s throat – so they also pose a choking hazard.) Raw bones are generally fine, but Chicken wings poze a choking hazard to large dogs. 8. Potato Peelings and Green Potatoes (Contain Oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems.) 9. Rhubarb leaves (See above.) 10. Broccoli (Broccoli is only toxic in large quantities.) 11. Green parts of Tomatoes or Green Potatoes (Contain oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems.) 12. Yeast Dough (Yeast Dough can produce gas and swell in your pet’s stomach – leading to rupture of the digestive system) THey mean Yeast Dough-which us Uncooked Bread. Cooked in the oven, already causes the yeast to rise, so doesn't pose an issue 13. Coffee, Coffee Grounds, Tea, Soft Drinks (Coffee, tea, & most soft drinks are dangerous due to the caffeine.) 14. Beer/Wine/Alcohol of any kind (Alcohol of any kind could lead to coma or even death.) 15. Human Vitamins (Human vitamins, especially those containing iron, can cause damage to the lining of the digestive system as well as cause kidney and liver damage) 16. Moldy or Spoiled Food (I think this goes without saying.) 17. Persimmons (Persimmons can cause intestinal blockage) 18. Raw Eggs and Raw Fish (Raw eggs and some raw fish can cause Salmonella poisoning.) 19. Salt, Baking Soda, Baking Powder (In large amounts these can cause an electrolyte imbalance – and severe electrolyte imbalances can lead to muscle spasm or even congestive heart failure.) 20. Mushrooms (Mushrooms may contain toxins which could cause liver and kidney damage) 21. Sugar-Free Foods (Sugar-free foods containing Xylitol have been found to cause liver failure in some dogs.) 22. Nutmeg (Nutmeg can cause tremors, seizures, and central nervous system damage.) 23. Excessive Fatty Foods (Excess fatty foods can cause Pancreatitis.) 24. Avocado (All parts of the avocado and avocado tree are toxic to dogs.) 25. Diary Products (Dairy products don’t usually pose a great danger; but many dairy product have high fat content (see number 23) – and many pets are lactose intolerant – some pets more than others. Lactose intolerance leads to gas and diarrhea; though small amounts of yogurt and cheese are usually fairly well tolerated.) I'm just trying to see what other owners have dealt with along the line of health issues with their miniature Schnauzers. Not Standards or others, but purebred minis. After 9.5 years, we just lost our sweet girl overnight 11/30-12/1. What's killing me the most is that the vet said she was doing better and would be coming home the next day. Well, she came home, but to be buried. She was purchased at a pet shop. I KNOW, so the last thing I need is someone finger-wagging and saying how it's "Wrong". Trust me, I KNOW. The only regret I don't have is of her temperament/disposition. Nobody would ever have found a sweeter, better-natured dog. She was playful and active up until 3 days before she died. We as a family are heartbroken and while we knew we did everything we could for her, it still doesn't seem like enough. What's killing me the most is that we were told how she "perked up" on the IV this time, and had there been even a cautionary "You never know what's going to happen," maybe we could have somewhat mentally prepared ourselves for this. But she died alone, overnight, in a cage at the vet's. I can only hope she didn't know what was happening and that she wasn't afraid. This is what's making me walk the floors at night, and why Xanax is the only reason I'm functioning right now. We never crate-trained her. From her first night that we brought her home, she slept with us. She meant the world to us and the void in our home now is unspeakable. She seemed to be prone to just about any and every ailment that this breed is prone to. The pancreatitis is what started the beginning of the worse, when 2 Christmas Eves ago, she was rushed to the vet and put on an IV. She basically blew her pancreas out and 13 months ago, was diagnosed as a diabetic. She was getting 2 shots a day of Humulin. Other: She had 2 corneal ulcers (same eye), one requiring a (successful) grid keratotomy. Just before her death, evidence of the beginning of cataracts (a slight "clouding") had begun in her eyes. She had several lesser eye infections from time to time. Chronic ear infections. Skin allergies, worst at change of seasons.Figured I'd add due to an answer citing this breed as a popular one...I had my first miniature Schnauzer in 1974. He got hit by a car at the age of 6, and never had any health problems. But I don't want it thought that this is some sort of popularity thing or "fad" breed with me.@Melly Belly...thank you very much. Big hugs to your little guy and I pray he stays in good health. My girl didn't have cysts so much as, I don't want to call them pimples but they would sometimes come to a head. Other times they -felt- like cysts but would break. And if your guy licks his front paws a lot, that could be a signal of other skin allergies. Hers were more often than not soaked.@Schnauzer Mom..I don't know how you did it but there's a special place in heaven for people like you. I've had people suggest for me to rescue younger adults, but I can't. I can't deal with more heartbreak on top of this. You are a very special person and thank you for answering my question. I'll keep a good thought for yours and wish them stable health. moreVoting Question: I need to save my alcoholic brother and my obese sister. What can I do?
So... my brother has been an alcoholic for a little over 12 years. He's had multiple cases of acute pancreatitis and is currently in remission from esophageal cancer. As far as I know he still drinks. My brother is currently 36. My sister, last we spoke about it, weighs an excess of 445 pounds. She has always been large but, according to our last conversation, she has gained 105 pounds in the last 8 months. She'll turn 32 next month. Both of them seem reserved to death. I love them with all my heart and wish I could do something (ANYTHING!) for them. Our mother died of an alcohol poisoning just over ten years ago. We never knew our father. What can I do to stave off this seemingly inevitable tragedy? I don't want to be alone in this world... moreResolved Question: Black lab has acute pain, cannot be explained.?
First I will say that my lab is only 2 & 1/2yrs old. So about 4 days ago my black lab got sick (not uncommon for her she has a bad GI system) we figured she ate to fast. Anyways, when I got up in the morning she was not acting her self. She didnt want to eat (even people food) or drink. Later on in the day she began doing this posturing stance where she would just walk around and then stop and stand there forever. She would not sit down or lay down, and she just would whine when you tried to make her get on furniture to rest or even lay down on the floor. We took her to the vet and had her checked out. But when we got to the vet she acted all normal and fine. They did express her anal glands as they were full, but they couldnt pinpoint the pain. They thought maybe pancreatitis but that was ruled out through lab work. So we brought her home and she continued to pace and walk around and not sit down. However, she started to eat and drink and was going to the bathroom. But she still did not want to play. The vet said if there was no improvement by the next day to bring her back. So we did bring her back and again she acted normal when we got to the vet. So they did radiographs, xrays, more blood work, etc and could not find anything abnormal. (There was like .2 increase on her white blood cells which honestly didnt mean a single thing). So the only thing the vet could tell me was possibly a soft tissue injury was causing her pain (due to the WBC count). They sent us home with rimadyl and after taking it she started to be alright. She has been on rimadyl before so I know it doesnt affect her badly (as I know most of you have probably seen the bad reports about pfizer and dog deaths due to rimadyl). Anyways, I decided to take her off it after only 2 days because she was acting decently like her self again. She had her last dose yesterday (wed 11/4/09) at 4:30-5ish. And so far today she is eating, wanting to play, relaxing, getting up on the furniture without us prying her to do so, and all body systems seem to be working ok. I am just wondering if anyone knows what could have possibly caused her to get this acute pain that cannot be explained, also if you ever had this happen to your dog (and did they get better), and if you know how long it takes for rimadyl to be out of the system...therefore I can see if it acutally is my dog getting better or the meds just masking her pain. Thanks and sorry this was so long.I already told all of this to the vet. Thanks for your answers so far.She was on rimadyl before for her spaying. She is not overweight she is actually right where she needs to be weight wise. I am thinking it could have been a number of things. I know it wasnt the smartest to take her off the rimadyl before the prescribed time but I just thought she was getting better so why keep a dog on soemthing that could cause further complications when she is already ok. Thanks so much for all the answers so far. They did xrays and radiographs of her stomach, thoracic cavity, abdomen, hind quarters, hips, and then they also did a hip dysplasia xray. At 5pm today it will be 24hrs since she had her last dose, so hopefully by then we will be able to see if it was the rimadyl or herself getting better on her own. Thanks again everyone for your help, and I def look forward to getting more response. The vet did a very good check on all the tests, and they actually had a second vet look at all of them just as a second opinion...neither could find anything! Strange. And I am an LPN and asked to look at them and I couldnt notice anything on her labs radiographs or xrays, that were out of the ordinary. moreResolved Question: Please read and answer postpartum depression not a troll?

A week after i had her i went into a severe attack which latest 3 days before i went to the hospital. They told me i had pancreatitis and my liver and kidneys were both shutting down. They also said i couldnt have my gallbladder removed right then because i had pancreatitis. I was in so much pain they had to put me on a pain pump and wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything for a total or 12 days while i was in the hospital. 5 days after i arrived i was in good enough health for them to have my gallbladder removed. They said it was sickest they have ever seen. While i was in surgery they cut my bile duct spilling bile all in my body. It was slowly killing me. The next day I was back into emergency surgery to have a stent put in. That stent didnt work it became blocked.2 days later they had to take me back into surgery for another stent which thankfully worked. While all this was going on My fiance broke up with called off our wedding and kicked me out of house. I had a mental breakdown in hosptial and was diagnosed as postpartum depression. I feel now real connection with my daughter i mean i love her to death i just don't want to deal with her. Which is horrible and i feel like the worst mother on earth. Since then i have found the most amazing guy and we tried our hardest not to become pregnant but when i switching birth control from pill to iud i became pregnant. I would like to know what other moms did to coop with postpartum depression? Raising kids so close together? and ANY HELP YOU CAN POSSIBLY GIVE ME. In June or possibly July of this year, my mother had her gallbladder removed.October 2nd she was hospitalized for acute pancreatitis. Both of her hospitalizations are due to her heavy drinking. she has been an alcoholic since i was born, o about 15 years. After each hospitalization she was told she couldn't drink but she does anyway. My mother has zero energy and is on about 15+ medications. she is suffering from depression as well. She has so many doctors appointment and procedures. she has a gum disease too, the one that comes after gingivitis. she is very little and brittle. My mother sleeps all day and I need to know HONESTLY if you add all these things up, if my mother has enough time left to see me through some things. Could you please tell me your honest opinions? Is she drinking herself to death? moreResolved Question: What should I expect for the Gardasil shot?
I'm getting the Gardasil shot next week at school, and I'm really nervous. I'm worried because i've heard so many horror stories online about pancreatitis, death, etc. I'm a minor (13) so my mom is forcing me to get it. It upsets me that she's making me get this when she knows nothing about it. She was so surprised when I told her that it only protects 4 out of 19 strains of HPV. And she doesn't believe me when I tell her that women have died. I'm scared. Are these horror stories true? moreResolved Question: What is my fathers cause of death?
I received a letter from the coroner, it listed chronic pancreatitis as the cause of death. However my fathers doctor, who was his GP for over 25 years said that she disputes this. She says its not the cause, according to her. Can i get some of your opinion on this please. My father was a smoker and he drank alcohol. He had a weak immune system, but a week before his death he contracted an aggressive case of the FLU. moreResolved Question: I believe my fathers death was a product of involuntary euthanasia need advice?
My father was very ill. He had chronic pancreatitis, copd, diabetes, and has been living with these conditions for the last 8 years with it starting from the pancreatitis. He has been married to my stepmom for only 10 of these 8 years and it is very obvious that he has been a burden for her. He has been in and out of the hospital for the last couple of weeks but my main concern is the events that happened 3 days before his death (my father was only 47). My stepmother kept making comments about how she wanted them to just stop treating his diabetes and remove his oxygen help (he'd been living with for 4 years). I explained to her that that would be murder it is the hospitals obligation to continue to treat what they had been treating before. My father was still eating on his own, going to the bathroom, and drinking on his own but, was heavily sedated. In his last day of life in the hospital there was talk of my step mom wanting to set him up with hospice and was asking questions about what she could do (take him off oxygen, stop checking his sugar etc). Before she left for the night she requested they give my father something for the pain (pancreatitis) and they gave him a dose of morphine. As soon as she left his stats started dropping quickly. His o2 saturation was at 33 and pulse had dropped to 67. The nurse came in checked on him and was going to clean him up cause he had soiled himself. I accepted as did my sister that it was close (not realizing the morphine could be the cause) and when they moved him around it woke him up enough to pick up all his sats. I called my step mom and told her what happened and she came back to the hospital. We waited a whole 7 hours with no change he was very sedated and non responsive from the drugs but stats were fine and showing no signs of discomfort or pain. The nurse had told me too that she thought it was the morphine that sent him over the edge. So after 7 hours of nothing...my step mom talked to the nurse even though my dad was having no pain and asked for more morphine. She also told the nurse not to treat his sugar that was getting dangerously low. She didn't even let the nurse take it but, when the nurse left she took it and it was 68. I explained how I was very uncomfortable with giving him more pain meds and not treating the sugar but was ignored. She started talking about taking him off his regular oxygen mask too and I was very much against it so she did not. This was about 2am when the first dose of pain meds was given (with no sign of pain) somehow an hour later when more family arrived he woke up and started talking to everyone and was awake and alert for about 10 min and my step mom after that ordered MORE morphine "for pain" that he wasn't having (he also had just had a dose an hour before) that was about 4am his breathing started to get slower after that but he was relaxed. The nurse kept coming in and asking my step mom if she was ready for "that" twice...finally about 530 am my step mom said yes. I immediatley said WHAT IS THAT! and she said oh, your dad is getting a little anxious so its some anti anxitey meds. ( still he was not moving, moaning, his stats were not showing a sign of pain, he was not gasping for air just breathing very slow) he passed an hour later. I need answers! I truly feel that this was not ethical nor legal. She was ofcourse being his wife his medical power of attorney. However I didn't think it gave her the right to play GOD so to speak. Morphine is very risky for copd patients from what i've read and apparently she was "friends" or the nurse was "a customer" of hers and even joked so are you going to let me cut in line now? I believe she came in and did say I got a doctors ok to give pain meds every 30 min. as needed which i thought was weird cause my father was not in pain?? And, if the doctor knew the effects of the pain meds on a copd paitient why would he allow such a high dosage to be given so frequently? I mentioned today I wanted a copy of his medical records and she got very defensive and said "what do you want those for"? and I said I just strongly feel like something is wrong and she said well "i don't want to talk about this right now!" 4 doses of a powerful narcotic and a dose of a sedative/"anti anxiety" to be administered within 3 hours seems excessive for someone sleeping? moreResolved Question: Are the Black men of this country (USA) becoming extinct?

In fact I am married to a black man and he is having a world of problems with his health.. Along with his family and black friends. AND not only that, everyday he comes home and tells me of another young black male that we know who has been arrested either on drug related charges or some other felony crimes. 70% of the young black males from my county are gone, because they are all in prison now. At first I wasn't even looking for crime rates, I just came across it looking for other issues like, research on certain health issues that affect mainly the black community. Because the old ones are dying off from cancer, diabetes, heart problems and an array of other things. And I see it is affecting the black community here more than the other communities. Hi, My parents are going through a really nasty divorce and still live together (as we have for like 2 years during the divorce problem that hasn't even started yet....they just informed us) They see other people and it kills me inside. Anyway my parents are broke and can't afford a divorce, they're hiding money and crap and my mom is working like a crazy woman and is miserable. I love her a lot, but shes really on my nerves. They fight and say things I would never want to ever hear and she freaks out and screams at me. She has skin cancer, and just found new of it and she also has pancreatitis that is REALLY bad all of a sudden after its been bad for years and they think she might have something worse like cancer. Shes being a total b*Tch and keeps saying how shes happy to have such a relief and how I won't have to worry about money when shes dead and I keep telling her that I don't give a sh*t about life insurance money, I want my mother to be around. She goes to a physciatrist and stuff so don't bother with that suggestion, I just need to know something I can say to her which will make her understand. Shes killing me with her and everytime she and my father fight and talk about affairs and stuff in front of me and their sex lives I die a bit more inside. Shes always like I want you to die a slow painful death. I tell her I hate her and it kills me because something could happen to her and I don't hate her she just really hurts me. I have many medical issues and a really hard life anyway and I have a noticeable tumor (Ive had many operations, you can't give advice on that) that I have to live with and I am just having a rough time in life and this is not helping it. How can I explain this to her?!?I explained the whole thing to her! She just doesn't give a sh*T or understand!! I made her listen to the whole thing. I cant remember a time where she wasn't in my life, on the 26th of January this year, she developed pancreatitis and my father had to put her down. Its been 4 months know and I still utterly devastated, its like there is a hole in my heart, I cry whenever I think about her. I know that she loved me as much as I loved her and she wouldn't want me to cry, but I just feel so much pain I cant help it. How can I stop these feelings, I can't bear it anymore. I am 24 years old and the mother of a 19 month old girl. I went back to my parents home a month before my baby was born because I ran away from the house my husband and I were living in when he tried to break a chair over my belly. My husband was there for the babys birth but has never been there to help nor support her $$$ly. After he lost his job and lost our house since he pretty much wiped out our bank account he begged my dad to let him stay with us. My dad felt sorry for him so told him he could move in but had to get a job...and he did...When my baby was 2 months old I had to get my gallbladder removed and ended up staying at the hospital almost a month due to pancreatitis meanwhile my mom was struggling to care for my baby and my husband was out getting drunk and never went to go see me at the hospital. After I was discharged he never helped me knowing that my recovery was going to be long because of my condition worsening at the hospital. I had to do everything myself such as caring for the baby and myself which was very hard bcause I was not supposed to lift anything that was 10lbs or over. So 2 weeks after I was discharged my husband goes into a 9month rehab program, and I supported him by being there for him and visiting him when I could and sending him pictured of the baby and writing him letters. I did everything there was to show him that I cared for him and wanted him to get better. He finished the program and 2months later went back to his moms w/out telling me anything I was notified by one of his counselors that he had left the facility even though he had graduated he was still allowed to stay there and work until he saved$$to get back on his feet etc....which he never did.He called me again or started coming back mid January of 2009 and 2 days after we started talking again he got drunk...He called me a few days later apologizing and telling me that he tried to drink but he was convinced that drinking wasnt his thing anymore. So I gave him the benefit of the doubt, but ever since mid January he disappears on his pay days (By the way hes only giving me$$2wice since January) He starts calling me again and wanting to come around when he sees himself w/little or no$$at all. I am sick and tired of his lies. I dont trust him anymore and it is obvious that he has no intentions of changing his ways. He always promises me that hes going to change for the baby and I and it is almost 2 years and were still on the same page. I see no progress and I dont want to put my life on pause anymore and wait to see if hes going to change. I am 24 now...I dont want to be 50something years old and regret not moving on and having a life of my own. I am not rushing to get into another relationship, but I miss having someone there for me, someone who I can talk to and share my thoughts and dreams with and go out to the movies with and someone that will care enough about my daughter to take her and I out to the zoo and just do family things togehter instead of throwing me off and abandoning me and my baby. I want to know if I can divorce him even though he doesnt want to? Does he have to sign? I dont know about him being aroung my daughter 1 on 1 I dont trust him because I know that when he gets the urge to drink or use cocaine he doesnt care and i am afraid of him leaving her or forgetting about her if he ever had to take her on a weekend (if he was to get custody) does the court take this in consideration? I dont want anything to happen to my baby I love her to death and she is the most valuable diamond I have besides my parents and God of course. I dont want to live like this anymore I want to continue on with my education and live in peace without him calling me and hearing the same story about how he will change this time around. I want to be happy, and I deserve to be happy as well. I want and need advice please. I am so confused. moreResolved Question: Can you explain how pancreatitis is related to nightmare death(SUND)?

I've struggled with my weight since I became diabetic (level 2) 10 years ago due to severe pancreatitis. I gained weight very quickly as I had a high insulin level and was taking Avandia. After having a baby and gaining 80 lbs with NO diet change, I started running, all the time and finally started losing..well it's been 7 years later and I'm finally at my goal, I'm 5'8 and about 138 pounds. Now my blood sugar is low all the time, I eat small frequent meals and still find myself shaking and rushing to find some sugar. This really sucks..I don't want to die a horrible death from having high sugar all the time (when I'm overweight it's high) , and I don't want to die young from low blood sugar! I've already had seizures from being low and sleeping in without eating. I'm going to get a C peptide test to see where I stand on my insulin levels and to make sure I haven't switched over to type 1, I'm on no medicines either and watch my diet carefully. I just want to have balance without having to eat junk all the time. Thanks Robert...I try exercising to help burn off the calories from the extra food I have to eat sometimes...but that makes me bottom out so darn quick! I suppose taking candies with me and slow paced walks is the answer for me.Thanks wild lotus..but test all the time! First of all I'm not attacking anyone I'm just curious.... Why? I mean I used to be in your mindset that mutts are healthier than purebreds and yes sometimes thats true. My mutt and purebred are both a year old and my mutt hasn't been to the vet for anything other than vaccinations and spay and my purebred has cost us thousands in vet bills already. (Diagnosed finally with pancreatitis, he almost died from that....turns out that is common in his breed) So I just want to know why? And I Just Want to Know If You Can Seriously Look at This dogs Face and Say I Don't Care That You Almost Died? And I don't care that other dogs are dying and deserve homes because I am going to still go and buy a mixed breed pup (such as Maltipoo, bichpoo, cockapoo, chiweenie, all those are mutts) from a so called breeder or I am going to continue to crossbreed? http://www.breederretriever.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=56&pictureid=408 Can you answer that? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here is our story if you are interested But my dog who is a mutt was almost put down due to know room in the shelter. She was 6 weeks old at the time and the shelter was chalk full of designer dog crosses and what gives them more of a right to live then my dog who was thrown away with her mom and sister and found in a dumpster? Mom was put down and on the day that my dog and her sister were to be put down they lucked out and the rescue got them. And now she lives with me. She is the best dog I have ever had, she is my best and most loyal friend (well besides my husband), and I could never have asked for a better dog. Had she been put down an important part of my life would be missing. She inspires me, she inspired me to follow my dream and work with animals. She helped me become a better person and she continues to inspire me. And when I see a stray dog now I don't keep going I stop and help him because that is what my dog needed.. Because the day I met her my world and thinking changed. She almost wasn't here. .It just scares me that the perfect dog for me the best dog I ever have came close to death and me not having her and it makes me thankful at the same time that I do have her Thank you for your timeI've just seen so many crossbreeding questions (and I'll be honest it hurts to see those) and I just had to knowAdopt a mutt....don't support the breeding of mutts that is how I feel now....I used to feel different until I met my girl and now I can never again consider buying a mutt only adoptingLike I said only sometimes is the health thing true and who knows down the road what kind of problems our mix will develop but we will care for her....but you never know what to expect with a mutt. I just after having her I don't know how anyone could do this....I mean I don't know it hurtsDon't get me wrong I'm all for responsible breeding of purebreds but never a muttWindsome Wanda: there will always be mutts in the shelters for you to choose from you do not need to breed them.....there will always be oops litters due to irresponsible ownership. No need to breed them on purposeI mean there is nothing wrong with mutts I love mutts but Purebreds were created for specific purposes and jobs...what was a mutt created for. I mean there are thousands of breeds out there. Why create more if there is no purpose moreResolved Question: How can we get financial help?
Ok, first of all, dont think we're freeloaders or white trash or anything. I grew up tossed between a mother who never wanted me and a grandma that gave me what she could. My mom tried to kill me when I was 15 because I said she was crazy, and I immediately looked for any escape I could find. 2 years later I met the man i love. we made our long distance relationship work until i got pregnant, and it ended temporarily when I miscarried, however we got back together less than a week later. I moved in with him on my 18th birthday 3 days after graduation in June. We live in a house with his grandparents and mom and 10 year old brother, none of whom want us there. We pay rent and groceries and everything else. In July he was hospitalized with pancreatitis and dka. after a month of fighting off death, he qualified for SLH to pay his hospital expenses. Now he just got a court summons to pay a bill that SLH didnt cover. At the moment, we both hold server jobs, making just enough to pay our bills, and barely get by. We have no help from anyone, and since his mom makes too much money and lives in the same house, we dont qualify for any kind of public assistance. I'm currently going to cosmetology school, and i drive back and forth everyday in a car thats literally going to fall apart any second. Is there any kind of financial assistance we would be able to qualify for that we may be missing? We live in Virginia if that makes a difference moreResolved Question: My wife and the local rich war hero?
I have a triple whammy facing me right now. Someone please help me. I was told by my heart doctor that if I didn't eat less and healthier food I would eventually be looking at a third bypass surgery. (I'm 300 pounds and 5' 8'') Also, my hepatologist warned me years ago that I would get another round of pancreatitis and possibly cirrhosis if I kept drinking heavily (unfortunately I haven't quit either). I have had the pancreatitis again but not the cirrhosis diagnosis. And the number three whammy is....my wife is cheating on me with a returned Iraqi War Hero who just inheritied a pile of money from his grandfather who died. What amazes me is, she's not even hiding it. She met the war hero when he was honored by the city upon his return home. The town showed up at the local civic center and had a small parade in his honor. After that their affair began. He's a 24 year old punk Marine that won a few silly awards (he got a silver star and two puple hearts). Big deal, right? And if the war hero baggage wasn't enough he's now a multi-millionaire living in a nice suburb. And, because of all this, I'm eating more and drinking more--putting my liver and heart at more risk--and nothing I say or do is helping me get my wife back. It feels like I have some angina and my stomach is starting to swell again, because of the liquor. My wife is a lot younger than I am too, and that's not helping me either--I married her when she graduated high school. I even threatened the war hero one night when I called his house (when my wife was spending the night with him), but the Sheriff the next day made it clear for me to never contact him again. Can someone tell me what to do? I hit my wife many years back and got a battery conviction, so I can't touch her again (I would never do that again anyways; that was wrong). But I want my wife back. I love her to death. If anyone knows what I can do to get the love of my life back in my arms, please tell me. moreResolved Question: Update on cause of death in my beloved dog's mysterious death?
Hey people- A couple days ago I posted about my beloved dog's illness and after battling 24 hrs with it, she unfortunately passed away. We didn't know why she had died. We got her lab values back and they were all over the place. Like I said in another post also, she had low glucose, high liver panel measurements (like for the ALT or AST or whatever it's called), and a high WBC count. We called our vet again to see if he could look over the labs again and tell us what exactly she died from. He did, and then also given her symptoms plus the labs, my dog died from Acute Necrotizing Pancreatitis. I am posting this because just in case anyone else experiences something like this, I want to let you know what to look for. This disease tends to affect older dogs around 13 yrs old (my dog was 13). Her symptoms were the following lethargy, depression, somewhat "snappy" towards our other animals when they came around her water dish, she was very thirsty and urinated a lot. We found her laying down and she wouldn't get up and when we lifted her, we noticed she had wet herself. She eventually, a few hours later, developed a neurological problem- she was disoriented, her eyes were twitching (it unfortunately threw our vet off into thinking she had vestibular disease), her nose had become dry (a healthy dog has a cold wet nose), she lost bowel control, when the vet pressed on her belly area, she yelped in pain- please, if anyone's dog does this and they are older, order a CBC quick. Her blood pressure also dropped very low. She eventually started having seizures and went into shock. The shock makes it hard for a dog to breath and get oxygen. This makes them hyperventilate and pay attention to their face. My dog's cheeks would "balloon out" as when a person is also out of breath from say running up a hill. This eventually makes it so hard to breathe, they stop breathing and their heart stops. They tried resuscitating our little Annie but failed. Acute means it came on suddenly and believe me it does and they die within a day. Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas and necrotizing means that necrosis is setting in. Which in laymen terms means Annie's pancreas died/stopped working. She was fine two weeks ago, but now she's in doggie heaven. So, if you have a dog that has these symptoms and you are trying to have them tested for everything and nothing seems to be coming up. Try doing a CBC and fast. moreResolved Question: Gardasil....I just read an artical that they are linking it to.........?

My mother (68) was admitted to Apollo Gleneagles Kolkata with abdominal pain on 26th May. She was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. She was admitted to ICU. She had signs of respiratory problem the next evening but she was just put on oxygen. At midnight, we got a stress call from hospital that she is very critical. We rushed to the hospital to find that she has been ventilated. And surprisingly enough, the doctor in-charge Dr. Dhiman Sen (who himself bogusly claims himself as the best doctor in WB and knew about the crisis, beware, he is a killer doctor) had his mobile switched off all through the night. We had to rush to get a ICU specialist at 2 a.m. in he morning, who came and saved her for the time being. Later on she was in ICU for 24 days and all through these days they never could make her even sit or talk. After one week, they mentioned that she has acquired AcenetoBactor from ICU, which is a deadly bacteria causing lungs failure. Slowly, she was pushed to death in 24 days. She finally died of major infection out of acetenobactor which she acquired in ICU. There were 3-4 other patients in the ICU who had acquired the same bacteria. It seems the Apollo ICU is a killer den. Though our beloved mother is no more and nothing can repair this loss, but 1. How can I complaint against Apollo Gleneagles about the terrible killer den state of their ICUs. 2. The killer doctor Dhiman Sen, who has been more than a mad person, kept on experimenting on my mother with antibiotics. The bill (7.5 lacs) shows 1000 medicines were administered in 24 days. How do I take some ection against this killer doctor. He himself claims as the best doctor in WB, and talks a lot about himself, but in my belief he is the worst and the most killer doctor in this world and should be banned. He has a lot of ego and he experimented on things which my mother could not cope up. 3. There were some great doctors like Dr Suresh Ramsubban, who treated my mother as his own mother, thanks to him. moreResolved Question: Anyone still enjoy eating with pancreatitis?
I'm 12 weeks pregnant with twins and was hospitalized with pancreatitis 3 weeks ago. It's not getting much better and I'm finding it very difficult to eat. I can't eat more than 5-8g of fat at once without causing it to flare up. I'm not getting as much fat per day as I need (and the babies need) I'm always hungry and I can't ever seem to feel satisfied. Even 3 oz of lean meat is too much fat for me. 1 tablespoon of butter is more than I can handle. I've switched to non-fat everything and it's like I'm on the mashed cardboard diet. Food is not enjoyable. I can only eat so much fruit and veggies before I'm on the toilet all day as I also have non-specific colitis on top of it. The dietician at the hospital wasn't of much help. I'm at my wits end. Food was the last thing I had that I enjoyed as I'm now too sick to be active and do the things I used to. I feel like I'm mourning a death. I'm happy about the babies and so is my husband, so that's not an issue. Is there a way to enjoy food?I ate pretty healthy before and I don't smoke or drink. I don't have a gallbladder so the reason for my pancreatitis is unknown. The only thing I did to start this is switch to whole milk. I crave fat so badly because I'm pregnant and it's torture when my husband and kids get pizza delivered, because I can't even have a bite. Is anyone with pancreatitis able to enjoy food? Eat anything good? The terrible pain I'm in is also really starting to get me down. What do you do for relief? How do you eat out? Please, anyone with experience help me.One more thing; I'm not allowed to eat spicy food either because it aggravates it. moreResolved Question: chronic pancreatitis?
my mom was recently diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis which is just chronic inflamation of the pancreas. my dad said that this can often lead to pancreatic cancer, which is intreatable and often leads to death. however, i did some research on this and found nothing that verified that. also, when i was researching, i came across a statistic that said 70% of cases of pancreatitis are caused by drinking. my dad drank for thiry-five years and quit nearly nine months ago, and he doesn't have this disorder. my mom, on the other hand, hasn't had a drink since she was pregnant with me sixteen years ago. this is my mom. i'm worried. what do you know about chronic pancreatitis? moreResolved Question: 16 yr old pancreatic Chihuahua won't eat?
I have a 16 yr old Chihuahua diagnosed & treated for pancreatitis 10 days ago. After a 4 day stay at the vet's, I brought him home. The vet perscribed low fat canned dog food - and nothing else! The first day home, he ate some, but after that, won't touch it. He started out at 8.5 lbs., now he's down to 7 lbs and looks very, very thin. He's interested in food as he follows me around the kitchen when I cook and begs from us at the table, but we haven't given in. The vet keeps saying it's okay if he's not eating, since that will give his pancreas more rest. But what good is a healthy pancrease, if the dog starves to death! The vet called with the latest blood test results & said the pancreatitis is better, but still present. He suggested (not mandatory) another hospital stay. He was miserable in the hospital and I don't want to do that to him again. the vet said try cottage chees and rice - he ate it once, and that was it. What do I do! It's had watching him starve! The dog food the vet perscribed is Science Diet E/N - canned or kibble and he hates it. The problem with chicken is (believe it or not) he won't eat it - he actually spits it out! And, while I agree that since he is 16, he should get whatever he wants in his golden years; but, that's how he got this. I was giving him whatever he wanted to eat and it was all too fatty/greasy. He got horrendous black tarry diarrhea - so bad it was literally falling out as he walked! And, he got dehydrated so I had to take him to the vet. Also, he's not easily fooled with the 'ol bait & switch thing with food. He'll taste it and if it's not what he thinks it should be, he spits it out. Do you all think my vet is wrong? Should I get a second opinion? moreResolved Question: Am I coldhearted, or just de-sensitized?
Well my ex-husband has finally drunk himself all the way to death's door....he's in the hospital right now with pancreatitis, in the intensive care unit, and may not make it. My kids are devastated, which is expected of course....but I am unaffected, glad even, wishing him a speedy trip to the grave. My compassionate side is disgusted, I feel guilty for feeling so unsympathetic, or maybe even vindicated. He emotionally abused me during our 10 year marriage, and I wished he would drink himself to death when I left. My wish is coming true and I'm bothered by my own lack of compassion.I definitely don't show my indifference about him to my kids, I'm very sympathetic with them, encouraging them to think positive thoughts and pray for their dad. He was an alcoholic before I ever met him, I had no idea his first wife had left him because of it. It became very clear within the first 2 years of the marriage what I was in for, but it took me another 8 years to summon the strength to leave for good. (I made several failed attempts during that time, but was always brought back with either promises or threats) He is now engaged to an alcoholic woman, in that respect they were made for each other, which is probably why he has gone downhill so quickly since he's been with her. Yesterday evening he was moved to another hospital, his organs are shutting down and they can't do exploratory surgery because his body is too weak to endure it. Hi there, My husband got Pancreatitis from having gallstones in his pancreas duct. They did an ERCP and thats how the pancreatitis started. My husband has had yellow jaundnice, pnemonia 2 times, his liver bile backed up and they had to put a bag on his side to drain the bile from his liver, he ended up getting a pseudocyst the size of a football ,they waited 6 weeks to go in and drain the cyst, they said his pancreas looked like mush, he is only 35 years old and has been through so much, when they did the surgery his pancreas was infected with MERSA, if you are not sure what that is its a staff infection. He had it in his blood as well, Here is the problem he is home now and I am so paranoid that he is getting sick I am driving him nuts, I stick a Thermonator in his mouth 50 times a day, I take his blood pressure and check his sugar so much I am just scared to death, I wonder if the staff infection is back ,I cant sleep and I am a nervous reck, how do I calm down? Also he was on a vent for 13 days and he doesnt remember a lot of what happen to him, before the vent he was in so much pain he really cant remember much so he doesnt understand why I am so scared. I am scared because I almost lost him and I am still scared maybe I need to see a doctor?!Ok, some things I left out. He has Sinus tachycardia, his Blood pressure is running 160's/112 all complications from having pancreatitis. This is why I am constantly taking his BP, or checking his temp. My mother suddenly asked to be rushed to the emergency room on Saturday around 5:00 EST, deciding that the pain in her upper chest was more than an ulcer. The doctors seem to think it's pancreatitis. A sudden case of which apparently has a high mortality rate, and I am now scared to death. They found that there were no gallstones but still say it's pancreatitis. I'm scared out of my mind that I'm going to wake up tomorrow and get a call that she died overnight, having now been in for 34~ hours with no signs of change. I can't get the hospital to put me through to a doctor or nurse to ask what is going on with her, but on the phone she was convinced it was a day later than it was and sounded completely out of everything. She doesn't have the chest pain any more because of all the drugs she's on, but she's been vomiting a lot. When is the window of risk for organ failure and other serious problems? My vet asked me to leave my cat at the clinic (after hours) for treatment for pancreatitis. Less than 48 hours later, I was told she died and the necropsy shows she died of heart failure from penumonia. She did NOT have 24 hour care. The doctor who was checking the animals randomly throughout the day noted her wheezing, but simply medicated her and went home. She was found dead the next morning. Was the vet negligent? Been reading up on it, just randomly, not sure why... Probably because I can't find too much information on it, and it's a challenge. I had a bout with Severe Acute Necrotizing Pancreatitis a while ago, and almost died from it, the pain was absolutely unbearable, and would have done anything to get rid of it. From what I found, he described that pain exactly, to the "t," or the "y," however you want to look at the word "exactly." Do you think that this pain could have been pancreatitis? Do you think that the doctors didn't treat his illness correctly because they didn't want to give him the normal treatment with Morphine and starvation because of his behavior with Heroin? The pain that I experienced could have easily led me to claw out my insides, anything to get rid of it... He is a serious alcoholic and he knows it bothers me a lot. He nearly drank himself to death 3 yrs ago and ended up in the hospital for 31 days over pancreatitis, shock and renal failure. Last nite he was here at my house and suddenly got up and left after I fell asleep. This morning at about 10 am, when I called him and asked if things were ok, he said he had to leave last nite because he was sick and went home. He came over about 2 hours after I called and reeked of stale alcohol on his breath from the nite before. I realize I am not going to cure his drinking habit. I just wish he would quit lying about it and trying to cover it up. He tried to sober up about 3 yrs ago and his family was non supportive of his sobriety and kept inviting him over for drinks and parties. When Zyprexa, Lilly’s drug to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, hit the marketplace in 1996, it was hailed as an “atypical” – a “safe, gentle psychotropic,” more effective than older drugs like Thorazine and Trilafon, without the dangerous side effects. Sales skyrocketed. The hype soon gave way to reality, as Lilly faced waves of lawsuits by patients suffering from diabetes, massive weight gain, pancreatitis and cardiac problems. Lilly responded with the cozy arrangement that worked with Prozac, another blockbuster plagued with problems: quietly settle suits out of court, with proceedings sealed and secret under a gag order.
