Open Question: Alcohol induced pancreatitis?

About a week ago I had a pain in my abdomen, it wasn't that bad of a pain, but it was noticeable so I went to the ER. After pushing around on my stomach the doctor said he thought it was a pulled muscle, but would wait until my blood work came back to be sure. Sure enough my blood showed slightly elevated levels of lipase (level was 150) and so I was diagnosed with a mild case of acute pancreatitis. I later got a CT which showed a mild inflammation of the tail of my pancreas. The next day I had an ultrasound and everything including my pancreas looked normal, no inflammation. They do not know the cause but they say it could have been that I drank excessively during a graduation party 4 days prior. My question is it normal for pancreatitis brought on by a weekend of drinking to take 4 days to show symptoms (ie abdominal tenderness)? Again the pain was mild and only felt when I laughed or coughed. Also my doctor said that I can only drink one beer at a time now for the rest of my life...I'm 26 years old. more

Resolved Question: THIS IS MY COLLEGE APPLICATION ESSAY, IS IT READY TO BE SENT TO COLLEGES?

I would like to share with you something about my current medical situation. Ordinarily I would not do so, as I am an intensely private person, but I now accept that my physical limitations have quite possibly impacted my high school performance in a negative manner, and I feel that it is only fair that you have this information. Therefore, I am reluctantly going to allow access to information that I would never, otherwise, speak of.For the past several years, I have been afflicted by a physical situation that has sometimes interfered with my ability to focus, both in the classroom and out. I do not wish to be too specific about the symptoms of my disease, except to say that they are digestive in nature and sometimes require me to spend long periods of time in the Ladies’ Room. Despite my terrible discomfort, I refused to accept that there might be something wrong with me, and would not seek treatment. I know now that I should have been less determined to suffer in silence and more willing to accept help. Finally, my parents insisted on bringing the matter to the attention of a physician. I was tested, over a period of several weeks, for colon cancer, Crohn’s Disease, intestinal obstructions, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett’s esophagus, Heliocobacter pylori (commonly known as ulcer), celiac sprue (commonly known as wheat allergy), lactose intolerance, gallstones, bile duct stones, sclerosing cholangitis (the narrowing of the bile ducts), “Sphincter of Oddi” dysfunction and pancreatitis. You can imagine how relieved I was to learn that I had none of these terrible diseases. Finally, I received the diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). IBS is sometimes known as spastic colon, nervous colon, nervous stomach, mucous colitis and spastic colitis, and is distinguished by abnormal bowel habits, such as diarrhea (loose stools), constipation or sometimes, as in my own case, both. It is well known to experts in this field that periods of stress can intensify the severity of IBS. I have certainly found my busy schedule of six honors/AP classes, Varsity field hockey, swimming and track teams, performing lead roles in three consecutive Spring Musicals, volunteering at the local animal shelter, tutoring at-risk children, and working three evenings a week plus all day Saturday at The Gap to be, at times, stressful, but of course it is impossible to say what has caused me to be afflicted with this very horrible syndrome.Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS or spastic colon) is a diagnosis of exclusion. It is a functional bowel disorder characterized by chronic abdominal pain, discomfort, bloating, and alteration of bowel habits in the absence of any detectable organic cause.[1] In some cases, the symptoms are relieved by bowel movements.[2] Diarrhea or constipation may predominate, or they may alternate (classified as IBS-D, IBS-C or IBS-A, respectively). IBS may begin after an infection (post-infectious, IBS-PI), a stressful life event, or onset of maturity without any other medical indicators. Although there is no cure for IBS, there are treatments that attempt to relieve symptoms, including dietary adjustments, medication and psychological interventions. Patient education and a good doctor-patient relationship are also important. Several conditions may present as IBS including celiac disease, Fructose malabsorption,[3] mild infections, parasitic infections like giardiasis, several inflammatory bowel diseases, functional chronic constipation, and chronic functional abdominal pain. In IBS, routine clinical tests yield no abnormalities, though the bowels may be more sensitive to certain stimuli, such as balloon insufflation testing. The exact cause of IBS is unknown. The most common theory is that IBS is a disorder of the interaction between the brain and the gastrointestinal tract, although there may also be abnormalities in the gut flora or the immune system. IBS does not lead to more serious conditions in most patients. But it is a source of chronic pain, fatigue, and other symptoms, and it increases a patient's medical costs, and contributes to work absenteeism. Researchers have reported that the high prevalence of IBS, in conjunction with increased costs produces a disease with a high societal cost. It is also regarded as a chronic illness and can dramatically affect the quality of a sufferer's life. In fact, doctors do not know what causes IBS, or why people who share my disease feel the need to have a bowel movement soon after eating, causing diarrhea, or why the prolonged spasm of the large intestine causes stool to stay in one area for too long and get dried out, resulting in small hard stools (constipation). As of today, palliative treatments are only in the experimental stage, and the hard truth is that there is no cure for IBS. It has been very difficult for me to accept this diagnosis at my young age. I do not know what the future will hold for me and other I more

Resolved Question: Severe pain. Does anyone know what it could be?

I am having terrible pain in my lower back and in my lower left abdomen, as well as terrible diarrhea.. sorry! It's terrible and I feel like I want to throw up every time I am having a bowel movement. I am passing bowels more frequently. This has been happening for a period of four months and I have been seeing a specialist about it, but my doctor hasn't found anything abnormal. He performed a colonoscopy to look for Chron's Disease and other problems. They did a biopsy on my colons and it all came back normal. I had blood work taken that came back normal and they even checked for gall stones, since everyone on my dad's side had to get their gall bladder removed. I would call my doctor right now but it is late at night and I am in so much pain. What could be wrong? Could it be pancreatitis? I don't think he has checked for it..Yeah, he thought it was diverticulitis. It wasn't because the colonoscopy results were normal. I don't think he checked for kidney stones though. more

Resolved Question: Out of Fentanyl Patches, Afraid of withdrawal?

Ok so in March, I was hospitalized with pancreatitis. I had an ERCP done but since then I'm still in horrible pain everyday. Beginning of April, My family Dr put me on Fentanyl patches 50mcg/per hour and told me I have chronic Pancreatitis. I went back to the Dr today and she wrote out another script for the patches but now my insurance is not wanting to pay for it.They are saying I'm too young for these. I'm 22. I'm completely out of them! I'm so scared about withdrawal from this. My pain is serious, the patches are the only thing that are helping so I can function everyday. I have morphine and Dilaudid but they don't touch the pain. The insurance also stopped paying for my pancreatic enzyme that I need (2 pills, 3 times a day). What should I do? more

Resolved Question: Gallbladder Removal - Who Has Had Theirs Removed?

I have had severe pain caused by gallstones and gallbladder inflammation now for over a year. The pain can come once a month or as frequently as 3 times a week and can last for anything from 20 minutes to several hours. I have put off having my gallbladder removed as I have read stories on the web about people regretting having it removed. But now, my doctor has told me it is getting more serious and I really need to have it taken out, especially as my last attack brought on the early start of pancreatitis. I am 39 years old, 5ft 8 and a normal weight for my height. I eat quite healthily during the week but have been known to indulge in something a bit more tasty (but not so healthy) at weekends. I have cut out all the major things that were triggering my attacks, such as eggs, cheese, fried food etc. and have tried drinking lots of apple juice, lemon juice and olive oil etc. as recommended in "alternative to gallbladder removal" advice pages. Since my last attack, I was too scared to eat as I had only had a jacket potato with baked beans to eat before the attack and during this time I lost 5lbs in weight. I have read about people who have put on huge amounts of weight after having the gallbladder removed, have still had pain, severe diarrhea and other complications. Obviously I know that if I have it removed I will not be able to eat junk food all the time, but I would like to think that I would be able to eat a little bit of what I fancy when I fancy it as any normal person would? My questions is really to people who have had their gallbladder removed or have genuine knowledge of this operation. Did you regret it or are you pleased you had it removed? Are there any other alternatives (apart from the flush)? Im trying to get a more accurate idea of the pros and cons of the operation as there seems to be a lot of stories on the web of people who have regretted having it done due to all the issues that come with it, but not so many stories of people who have never regretted having it done. I only know 2 people who have had it removed, in both cases it was over 20 years ago, but they both report no side effects, no problems, no change in diet, no weight gain, no diarrhea etc. So I would really like to know of anyone who has had this operation more recently and their personal opinions. Thanks in advance. more

Resolved Question: 65 year old male with only medicare part A - hospitalized for 6 days.?

Last week, my dad who is 65 had to be rushed to the hospital for pancreatitis. He only has Medicare Part A and is considered low income. During his stay he had the following treatments: 5 hours Emergency Room - Utrasound, CT Scan, pain meds 2 nights private heart monitoring room - around the clock care, pain meds, blood pressure check, IV fluids, antibiotics, insulin shots, no meals 2 nights semi private room - MRI, around the clock care, paint meds, blood pressure check, IV fluids, antibiotics, insulin shots, meals. We haven't received the bills yet but we were discharged after 6 days. Due to the swelling, we still need to go in to do an MRI to make sure what is causing the pancreatitis in a few weeks. My question is, out of this, what is covered in the medicare part A? After a lot of research, it doesn't look like Medicare part A will cover very much. We thought "hospital benefits" actually included, any kind of emergency treatment like what my dad got. We also didn't know what doctors will send you a seperate bill from their office. Can anyone add to this mess on what we can do? Should we be expecting a $300,000 + bill in all? Out of this what will be covered by medicare part A? **We are in the process of applying for Medical and have recenty had to do a "spend down" to bring our personal property limit to $3000.00 to be elibible. Does anyone have any other suggestions on what else we can do or show to our social worker to get us approved? Thanks in advance. more

Voting Question: Fairly strong pain in the upper right abdominal, what could it be?

About a week ago, my boyfriend started experiencing pain in the upper right side of his abdomen. The first day the pain was excruciating and he vomited for pretty much the entire day. Since then, he hasn't thrown up but has been eating light. The pain now comes and goes and he says it hasn't yet been as severe as the first day. The pain comes and goes several times throughout the day and today it felt like he may have had a fever, he hadn't before at all. We didn't have a thermometer so I couldn't tell for sure. He felt warm but its pretty hot out today so it may have just been the heat. I am concerned it might be pancreatitis but wouldn't he have had to been hospitalized by now? He missed a few days of work but he has been going now for a few days. more

Voting Question: Is is my gallbladder or pancreatitis?

I've been having left sided pain behind my ribs for about 5 months. It started out as a dull ache now it's more intense and radiates to both sides and on my back. Every once in a while I have a low grade fever. I have been to the dr 3 times and he can't figure out what it is. It seems to be worse at night and before I eat. Could this be my gallbladder or pancreatitis? Or neither? Thanks in advance for the help.I'm seeing my family dr. Haven't seen a specialist yet more

Resolved Question: Very rude Dr. I dont know what I should do? Please read :)?

Ok, This is going to be long but I really need some answers. Im so confused at what Im supposed to do. I began seeing a GI doctor in Jan. due to food not digesting, weight loss, and constant vomiting. After a few tests he decided I have Gastroparesis ( basically my stomach is slow at digesting food) He ordered an Upper Endoscope which showed everything was fine. Before the test he was very rude to me. I told him I was in pain and had a history of pancreatitis. He basically yelled at me that he didn't think that I had that and immediately gave me the sedative to knock me out. When I woke up, He had wrote a script for Reglan and sent me home. The next morning I was in so much pain, my husband rushed me to the ER. They did blood work which reviled my liver enzymes were elevated. The CT scan came back normal. After 14 hours in the ER they admitted me. I was put on Dilaudid pain pump. I was in the hospital for 18 days. No tests were ever done. They assumed I was there for the pain medicine. I couldnt get the Drs to listen to me. ( BTW Im 22 years old, and before this, I had NEVER taken anything stronger than a tylenol for pain) They let me lay in the hospital for 18 days without passing a BM, I was so uncomfortable, I was miserable. Finally, I got transferred by ambulance to a different hospital. At the new hospital I had an ERCP procedure done and a stint placed into my pancreas ( They found I had a sphincter of the Oddi dysfunction). They put me on pancreas enzyme pills along with a list of other medicines. I started feeling great. Now this past week, the pain has returned. Its been 2 months since my ERCP was done. Im on a durasegic pain patch to help with the pancreatitis but its just not helping the pain. My husband took me to the ER, the Dr gave me dilaudid script and told me to return if it didnt control the pain. So on Sunday I returned to the ER. ( Also I havent been able to keep ANYTHING down, becoming very dehydrated and weak. Ive lost 35 pounds in 2 months) After 10 hours in the ER My GI Dr wouldnt admit me, he wanted to talk to me 1st. Basically he said " I dont know what to do with you, you cant sit in the hospital for weeks on pain medicine. We arent finding anything wrong. If you want to lay around all the time why dont we just put you into a nursing home" He then sent me home to suffer. Now heres the problem. This GI Dr is wanting to see me in 2 weeks. I really dont want to see him again. He didnt listen to me at my appointment in the 1st place. He made it seem like Ive been in chronic pain for 8 years which is not the case. I have had GERD for 8 years but not in pain. I just dont know what to do. Should I make an appointment and get crappy with him THEN switch Drs? Or should I just go and keep my mouth shut. more

Resolved Question: Explanation of medical results?

I went to a free clinic that is not so good. They had my results since March 16th but have never had a doctor to go over them with me. I finally went and picked them up yesterday, but I don't know what some of ti means or how serious it is. I am not scheduled to see a doctor again for 2 more months. Could someone who knows a little about this stuff help to explain what it means and what I should worry about? I'd really appreciate it. Here is some stuff it all said - stuff in [[ ]] I need help understanding: CT Scan of abdomen: Heart size is normal. [[Some streaks of scarring or subsegmental atelectasis at the lung bases]]. Resolved Question: Should I put her to sleep or keep fighting. I'm torn and need advice, what would you do?

I have a female Toy Poodle named Precious. She is 2 and a half years old and she is very ill. She has the most severe form of pancreatitis. She had been doing great for about 10 months. No problems until today. She is showing signs of her illness again. And not good signs. It will be a matter of hours and she will be deathly ill again. How do I know this, we've been through this 4 other times with her. Almost lost her twice. The vet says we should have lost her when she was 9 months old and its amazing she has been doing so well. Her prognosis wasn't good, well isn't good. We've been told not to expect her to live to be 5 years old. She just gets so sick. If she gets any worse, we will be taking her to the vet and if its indeed the pancreatitis again, we may consider putting her down. Its to the point where we know she isn't going to ever not be plagued with this. The treatment is as hard and traumatic to her as the illness. Last time I came home to find her in her crate lying in a pool of her own blood and vomit barely concious. I was gone 3 hours and when I left she seemed fine. That is how fast it gets her. Other than weight loss we didn't notice any issues. Time before that she woke me up coughing up blood. She can't keep weight on, never has been able to. And she has behavioral issues that both her trainer and vet said are a result of her illness, being uncomfortable. Right now she seems exhausted in every way, its like a light is going out in her eyes. She doesn't have that fire in her she used to up until recently. Its basically to the point where do we treat her and get her well, just for her to get sick again in a few months, or go ahead spoil the heck out of her until she gets worse (a matter of hours, maybe a day or two) and let her go to the rainbow bridge (put her to sleep) and end her pain for good? I know only my family can make this decision but what would you do? more

Resolved Question: is this pancreatitis recurring?

I was hospitalized about 3 years ago with an episode of acute pancreatitis. About 6 days ago, I finally drank again and had 1 beer over the course of about 2 hours. Since then, I've had a persistent very dull pain in the general area under my ribcage, right above my belly button. After the pain subsides, the area feels bruised to the touch. I also have a lot of gas and acid reflux. My stool is normal, eating habits are normal. I'm just really hoping this isn't pancreatitis again. I was only 16 when I had my first attack, and I wasn't even a heavy drinker back then either (although it was caused by having 3 beers in one night). So what do you guys think? I already set an appointment to see my doctor soon. I'm just freaking out here and am really hoping it's not pancreatitis again. I'm hoping it's just acid reflux, which I also have a history with, although my acid reflux usually affects my upper chest and not my abdomen. Thankssorry, I meant the ache is usually centered right above my belly button, but also sometimes happens in the left and right sides of the area as well more

Resolved Question: Does my sister have diabetes?

My sister, who is 26, went to the ER where she lives with severe stomach pains. They ran some blood tests that showed that her blood sugar was 407. They told her she was diabetic. My sister never had any symptoms of diabetes like my dad did before he found out he was diabetic. She never drank a lot of liquid or went to the bathroom a lot. Also the first tests showed she had pancreatitis. Then later tests showed up negative for that. Then the tests showed that her liver enzymes were extremely high. I also would like to know if it is normal for an ER to send someone home right away after they give an insulin shot with that high of blood sugar, and to tell her to wait till today to go see a doctor, she went in on Wednesday. The hospital doesn't sound like they know what they are doing, and my parents and I are extremely worried about her. more

Resolved Question: I just found out from emergency room visit - Pancreatitis?

I've been separated for over a year from husband, he was recently laid off lost insurance coverage. I have outstanding bill with doctor so he refuses to see me, the emergency room runs the same tests and says go see your doctor- So, what I am asking; Does anyone know of Care Treatment facilities that may treat me? I want to go to work! I think I've been given a death sentence with no hope. I've also been dating a guy (I've had a crush on for 28yrs-Iwas15 the first time I saw his beautiful green eyes-and perfectly chiseled face-but never told anyone until this past November when we crossed paths again-as we have thru the yrs-and he turned around to give me a very warm firm hug and invited me to dinner with his friends-he doesn't want to believe I am...ill and his people are telling him to drop me because there is "something" wrong with her. I feel like he should too-I have nothing to offer him but pain and misery and loss eventually death in my heart I believe he loves me and would do anything he could to help IF there IS any help out there) I have three children 22,11,8-&5yr old granddaughter, that I have been in so much pain and NO energy But my mind says GO!!! so much to say and so many questions-I have looked up pancrepancreatic I've seen some surgical precedures and have heard one doctor say if they get to it too late the surguries will not prolong life expectancy-only removal of the painful dead cells that block the ducts that secrete the enzymes, but with no car, job, money, insurance All I have is God. and I've been a terrible Christian, making promises with all good intent and falling short every time one thing or another I do not deserve a miraculous healing from God but I do need One (or about a million little miracles) to pull something together so my son can have a chance at life-he is mamas' "BOY" he loves his mom and wants to go with me when I go-He can play piano, drums, guitar and praises God-Loves Jesus but the friends he has do not go to church my estranged husband refused to pray with me or surrender his lustful greed (I"LL just stop there) he was not a positive influence for either of us, I have regrets I got away last year-because I wanted to take one more chance at having a good life and pursue happiness less hatred around me more happy -doesn't look like that is going to happen. How can I find out if anyone has an insurance policy on me? I am curious as to how from sept to now I am in so much pain-agony words cannot describe-I am sorry I am not practiced at the art of short n sweet and keep emotion out of it-I have no clue where to turn, the hospital told me to see my doctor, the doctor wants his money (I don't blame him I just need to get to work so I can pay him more

Resolved Question: Need advice... My boyfriend and I have been together since 16- almost 7 years?

So we've been together since highschool and off and on during college. Of course since starting off so young we have had our fair share of drama.  Well last summer he thought I slept with someone which I didn't but he never believed me. He is one that loves to bring up my trangressions during tge relationship though he has had many of his own.  Well during the fall we found out I was pregnant. Maybe like a month before I caught him in bed with another girl. Well we tried to work through it during my pregnancy or so I thought.  I had a terrible pregnancy, I was vomiting for the first 3 months, then had excrutiating pain which had me in the hospital for a month with pancreatitis and nefrostomy( horrible) and my grandmom passed away while I was n the hospital.  Anyway he was very sweet and loving throughout everything. However at 7 months hw told me he was cheating on me and got the other person pregnant. The nxt month I gave birth. He apologized, but I was devistated... I didn't understand when, but apparently when I went home during the weekend.  Well after I gave birth to my beautiful child he started saying he didn't think I would ever forgive him and that he wanted me to b happy. Come to find out he was still trying to communicate with her and seek something serious.  He has been honest he told me he loved her and told her that. And the sad part is that she seems like she loves him as well. He then told me after we had another convo that he loves me and wants to b with me and the reason he said he didn't because he didn't think I could handle the situation I'm confused hurt and angered. He slept with someone unprotected, he completely disregarded my feelings, and he has been selfish. I want to be with him. This has been so much and I know he loves me. I just don't know if I can handle all of this drama. And now the girl is lashing out because she's hurt. She knew about me being pregnant and didn't care but I know it's all on him... I just need honest opinions and adviceI appreciate everyone honesty. I'm not defending him but he has not been a complete jerk. When we first went off to school I told him I didn't want to b with him. Though we got back together. We've had trust issues on both ends.I don't want to say it's my fault but I feel that ifwe werent so confused then this might have not happened. He has been there thru everything more

I am a 22 yr. old female. I have been feeling very naeseous for the past 3 days and I haven't been vomiting. The naesea is severe. Resolved Question: Persistent stomach pain, in the same place.?

Since June '07, I've had stomach pain the reoccurs in the same spot. It's the upper left side of my belly button. It's like a crampy, throbbing pain. The intensity of the pain varies. It gets pretty bad sometimes. In July '09, I had to go to the hospital, after consuming 6 sparks(flavored beer). It turned out, I had acute pancreatitis. I quit drinking till September '09, then one night, I broke down and had about 7 shots of Captain Morgan Rum. I had to go back. I had acute pancreatitis again. I havnt had alcohol since then. But now, I have stomach pain every day. And pain medications make me sick to my stomach. I take them after eating a meal, and I drink plenty of water. But it always seems to make me feel very nauseous, and sick. I end up throwing up. And then I feel so fatigued for the rest of the day, sometimes even the next day or two. My doctor thinks it's just acid in my stomach. So she prescribed me rantidine. I've been taking it for a month. It helps with heartburn, but my stomach still hurts. Does anyone know what could cause this?I'm 20 years old. 109 lbs. more

Resolved Question: Has anyone here ever had a cat with pancreatitis?

My 6 year old cat has been diagnosed with pancreatitis. This all started on March 27th, when I noticed my cat was being anti-social (he is abnormally cuddly for a cat - he just can't get enough attention!)and hadn't eaten in a day and a half, but was still drinking normally. We brought him to the vet, and based on the symptons, he thought maybe my cat had pancreatitis. We couldn't really afford an ultrasound that day, so he put my cat on Cyproheptadine (appetite stimulant) and a general antibiotic in case it was a cold. He still wasn't eating on last Wednesday the 31st. I took him to the animal ER hospital near me ( as it was 11pm) and they gave him more Normosol (like pedialyte for cats) and sent him home with a big IV bag of it that I have to give him nightly. They told me to call back the next day to schedule an ultrasound, but that turned out to be a whole fiasco where the ultrasound guy had an out of town emergency, so I couldn't get to my normal vet until this past Saturday April 3rd. Did the ultrasound and everything looked ok, liver and stomach wise, but vet said definetely signs of pancreatitis. So they gave him a bunch of shots, and he ate later that night- some boiled plain chicken. He also ate a little Sunday morning, but again now, he ha stopped eating, and he isn't drinking. My vet said he isn't showing any signs of pain. He is sleeping a lot and when I give him attention, he is still purring. I am beside myself with worry and I just don't how to get through this. He just doesn't seem to be getting better yet, and I am just wondering if anyone else on here has had this problem, if you could tell me how long it took your cat to heal or any suggestions you have? Also, I have tried all brands and all flavors of wet cat food, but he won't touch it. I appreciate your responses in advance. Reenie more

Voting Question: chronic pancreatitis?

I have been dealing with Chronic for about 9 months now. I have had all the tests and what not and the doctor's still have no idea why it it happening. I am in the hospital at least 3 days a week. Lately I have been having serious pain in my kidney area along with the attacks. With all the research and talking to the docs about it I am at a loss. Seems like they have no idea what to do. I know this can be dangerous and life changing. Anyone know life expectancies. I am only 34 years old with no other problems. I don't drink, no gall bladder problems or anything like that. Resolved Question: Question again , please?

I've just been terribly sick and hospitalized. . One of my contacts sent me a message specifically asking for my thoughts about how to tell if someone on the phone, is literate enough to read. I wanted to reply, but was too foggy-headed and the question got lost to me. I saw it two weeks ago, and I had 900+ inbox messages to try to cope with. Please either ask me the question again, send a personal message, or whatever, if you are still interested. I apologize sincerely; normally I would not just rudely ignore a well-pled personal request. Sorry. Pancreatitis, which I had, is treated by starvation and a lot of pain pills. I am first now, almost a month later, about back to normal. I did not mean to ignore the question, which is a good one. Give me another crack at it, please? //JimWell, Med, I think I'd have to go back on almost a hundred contacts and look through a lot of their questions. to 2-3 weeks ago. I am hoping that this might work easier. Sorry to be lazy. :-)OK, sorry again. I have managed to find the original question, and sent KittehKat a personal reply. Thanks, Miss D., and all you folks. Chronic pancreatitis diagnosed fifteen months ago, Dx changed a few weeks later to acute pancreatitis. Subsequently zero alcohol (previously drank two drinks each evening), stools more frequent and often liquid or very soft. The main problem is a vast amount of flatus. Is this the result of pancreatitis or should I be looking for something else? I take Ultrase 2 tid with meals, plus Welchol, Zetia, and Niaspan for lipid control. Blood tests today reveal initial inflammation has subsided but symptoms still persist, since bloods are OK it is decided no treatment necessary and sent home again. Resolved Question: Does anyone know anything about PANCREATITIS?

My dad had an incident where he suffered sever pain in his back and nausea last year but the doctors at the hospital couldn't figure out what was wrong with him so he left the hospital feeling normal soon after. Months later he developed a strain around his back and abdomen and he went to see a doctor and he suggested it might be a problem with his prostate and he started taking medication for it. Just recently he suffered a second incident which involved severe pain in his back and he collapsed (same thing as the first incident). The doctors have diagnosed him with pancreatitis and steatorrhea. They think a gall stone has formed and is causing the problem. But the thing is he's taken so many ultrasounds and tests and still don't know the real cause?? He's currently an outpatient and suffers from pain sometimes while he tries to recover at home. Has anyone experienced this or has any advice??? My mother thinks it's cancer but I don't want anyone jumping to conclusions! more

After six months, the reduction in the number of painful days/month was significantly higher in the antioxidant group, compared with the placebo group (7.4±6.8 versus 3.2±4, respectively). The reduction in the number of analgesic tablets/month was also higher in the antioxidant group (10.5±11.8 versus 4.4±5.8, respectively).
