Recurrent Pancreatitis Questions and Answers

Resolved Question: What pain relief is best for recurrent pancreatitis?

I have been prescribed kapake for years now to treat recurrent bouts of pancreatitis ( I've been told that nothing can be done surgically) but now, a new doctor has put me on Tramadol 50mg, 2, three times a day. I am nervous about changing my medication and have not started the course yet as I still have some kapake left. This doctor said that Tramadol should work better. Has anyone ever tried them for stomach problems, or pancreatitis? more

Resolved Question: My child had pancreatitis once . . . is this it again?

My son had pancreatitis three years ago when he was five. They thought it was caused by a virus so they doubted it would ever be a recurrent thing. He has been having tummy pain with tenderness for two days. He is still playing and he doesn't feel nauseous. The pain began on the right and then moved to the left. he also had a sore throat at first. Does anyone know what this could be? Should I be worried? I am taking him to the doctor tomorrow afternoon. more

Resolved Question: Pain management clinic. What can I expect?

I have recurrent pancreatitis, non-specific colitis and horrible upper back, neck, arm and hand pain. The back pain we are still trying to figure out the cause. My doctors are sending me to a pain management clinic now because taking 2 10mg Lortab per day isn't doing enough. What can I expect? Only 2 pills per day doesn't give me the all day relief I need, but helps somewhat. My quality of life isn't good and I have a lot of trouble sleeping. I have trouble caring for my 4 month old twins because of the arm and hand pain as well. I'd like to hear from pain management patients what their experiences have been like and what kind of treatment they get. Thank you so much.I would consider any pain relief, not just drugs. I just need to not be in this degree of pain anymore. more

Resolved Question: Why aren't my Pancreatic attacks stopping and cant there be any cause?

I have been having recurrent Pancreatitis attacks for the last 2 years. My first attack was the severest, in which my pancreas swelled and i was rushed to the hospital for 10 days. I was in extreme pain and couldn't eat, talk and walking was out of the question. As according to my culture alcohol is forbidden so the first major cause was set aside. After on constant drips, i recovered and was sent home. After 2 or 3 weeks the attack occurred again and i was rushed to the hospital again. This time a thorough examination took place. My Amylase and lipase were sky high and an MRI scan showed my stomach was filled with watery fluids. The scan also showed a polip in my gol bladder, so the doctors concluded that it shoed be surgically removed. After surgery i was brought home and had lost about 20 kg in that 10 to 15 days span. These attacks started occuring again and again usually after 2 or 3 months.I wanted to know isnt there and definite cause and treatment established. Please help me!!!! more

Resolved Question: Why are my liver enzyme levels through the roof???

I'm 31, married for 9 years w/ 2 young children. I'm not a drinker and not overweight. I've been having recurrent abdominal pain for the last 5 years or so that mirrors a gallbladder attack. My gallbladder was removed in 2001, so I know it's not my gallbladder. Recent bloodwork done following one of these "attacks" showed my liver enzyme level to be at 312. My doctor said normal levels are b/w 3-35??? These attacks involve severe "squeezing" pain that is centered in my stomach and radiates to my back b/w my shoulder blades. Pains last for 10-12 minutes, subside for about 2-3 minutes, and this cycle lasts for 2 hours or so usually in the middle of the night. I experience nausea and vomiting during this period. There is no comfortable "position" that alleviates the pain. Could this be a blocked bile duct? Pancreatitis? Any suggestions? more
