Resolved Question: What could be wrong with him, want to be prepared. Going to the vet at 2pm?

MAIN SYMPTOMS: Poops in his crate every time we leave. (Has done this since he was 9 weeks old) Pants really hard, a lot. (Doesn't matter how cold I have the room and I have it pretty cold, I'm pregnant) His heart is always racing it seems, when you pick him up you can feel it pounding so heart. The throwing up in his crate everytime we leave. (Even if we just leave him 15 minutes) Thats gone on since Sunday. Very very hyper and nervous acting. Constantly pacing, humping things, or hiding. He has always been an antisocial dog. He has always been irritable, never easy to get along with. We thought the humping was him trying to prove dominance but discovered it was actually a nervous behavior in him. My husband, myself, and our Terrier are all very laid back individuals but our Poodle has always been very high strung. I'm starting to wonder if there is something more going on than Anxiety. What do you think? Someone mentioned hyperthyroidism, but I certainly hope that is not the case. Because its rare in dogs and if they do have it its usually caused by a form of cancer. I so thought we were in the clear with him. We were about to Celebrate his 2nd birthday. Something we were never sure we would see: HIs first healthy birthday ___________________________________ BACKSTORY: okay my dog has been having some of this behavior since he was a puppy. Well since his first night with us. His first vet ruled it as Seperation anxiety. We took all the proper measures to keep him calm and work with him on it. We even went as far as getting another dog so he had a companion and that helped a whole lot. But lately things seem worse. At a year of age he was diagnosed with Acute pancreatitis, but it wasn't long before it was rule a Misdiagnosis. New vet did actual tests on him, unlike the old vet and said that dog doesn't have it. (Becuase he had a few flair ups after that iniatial one and there was no sign of it) Turned out he had a parasite but that was cleared up. They have checked his thyroid in the past and the results have been a little off from normal, but never enough to be too concerned about it. Now he has always pooped in his crate whenever we would leave him but now he is throwing up his kibble, pretty much undigested. In his crate when we leave He seems nervous whether we are home or not. I dont get it. He typically is only crated or left alone maybe an hour a day. Sometimes up to two hours. I'm a housewife, soon to be stay at home mom so its not like he lacks attention or anything ThanksHe has always had a hard time keeping his weight. He never drinks a lot. Since throwing up the last 3 days (I time per day, when we left him and it was undigested kibble) he has lost a little weight Thats why we are taking him inHe is in the crate maybe 30 minutes a day at the most an hour. Again I am a housewife and he is in there when I go to run errands. I think its more than anxiety, we've done everything by the book, we've tried calming agents. We've worked with a vet and trainer on the anxietyHe has never had an issue with the crate itself. He slept in it up until about 6 months ago. Its just if we leave he poops and throws up in it. And he is 2 years old now by the wayAGain he is 2 years old and up to date on all vaccines. No I don't have a stool sample or any of the vomit. I cleaned it up, He hasn't vomited today and he already pooped this morning which is in the poopy bin now. We live in an apartment more

Voting Question: How long will alcohol be detected in my blood?

So here's the story. I've had pancreatitis several times, but it has never seemed to correlate to drinking. I know that alcohol abuse can cause pancreatitis, and I stopped drinking after the first time I got it, only to get it twice more, even when abstaining from alcohol altogether. I have had it a total of 6 or 7 times, only once after drinking. So my point is, I get pancreatitis and it has nothing to do with alcohol consumption (they haven't figured out yet why I get it, though I have been told it might be Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction). One time, I was having an attack of pancreatitis and went to the hospital, of course. I happened to get the symptoms in the middle of a night at the bar. When the doctor realized I had been drinking, he pretty much told me that he thought I was giving myself pancreatitis on purpose (by drinking) so that I could come to the hospital and get strong narcotic pain medicine. So he decided to not give me ANY pain medicine. For the record, that is the only time I have ever gotten pancreatitis within a week of drinking. Well, I've been drinking tonight, and I feel like I'm going to have another attack. I have the warning signs. But if it does turn into a full-blown attack, I'm afraid that they'll detect alcohol in my blood again and do the same thing - not give me any pain meds, even though it gets REALLY painful. I'm female, 5'3", and weigh about 120 pounds. I've had about 5 shots of Parrot Bay, which is only 21% alcohol (42 proof), as opposed to most liquors, which are usually 80 proof. I've had these drinks from between 8:00pm and 10:30pm. My question is... does anybody have a good estimation of when the alcohol will no longer be detectable in my blood? I realize the doctors might not even look for it, but just in case they do... I'd honestly rather wait extra hours in pain before going to the hospital than have everyone think I'm some kind of drug addict or something. Thanks a lot. more

Resolved Question: Acute Pancreatitis ... Could be wrong diagnosis?

7 months ago I had pretty bad pain, not horrible, could still walk and drive. I thought it was heartburn, went to pharm and got pepcid. It didn't go away in the hour as said by the pharm. The pain wasn't severe, just bad enough to call the dr. to ask how long it takes pepcid to work. Two hours later went to Dr. She felt around, I had bowel signs (which I've read I wouldn't have it if AP), normal blood pressure. She ran a blood test and everything came back normal except amalyse and lipase were quite high. Within 2 days I was feeling normal, but she continued to take blood tests 1 per week, and enzymes were quickly going back to normal. Took 3 weeks to normalize. Again, all blood tests were normal in others except white blood cell count was high (14). With everything I read, except for the enzymes, this doesn't sound like your typical AP. I eat normal foods, some fatty, and drink occasionally. I haven't had contact with the dr. since. She said don't drink, but when I called her after a week or so she said I could resume normal activities. I just assumed that meant all normal, so I continued drinking in moderation. Again, no problems. Any advise? Does the levels represent a certainty of pancreatitis? No other tests were performed. No 'radiating' pain, didn't go to hospital, ate soup and jello for 4 or 5 days, and didn't drink alcohol for a few weeks. Resumed normal feed, and drink wine, but never more than 1-2 on occasion. Could this be a misdiagnosis? I have had no more symptoms whatsoever since then more

Resolved Question: If it's not pancreatic, what could this blood-work mean?

High GGT (41), AMYLASE (3513) LIPASE (5944) and ALKPH (3197). . These results just came back on my golden retriever, who is still eating well, wagging tail, and looking cute as ever! No vomiting or outward signs of pancreatitis. She is lethargic but that's normal for her age, 13. What could cause such bloodwork besides the pancreas. Is there any medicine for it? Vet was baffled that she has no symptoms.Amylase 3513, GGT 41, Lipase 5944, Potassium 5.7, Calcium and all other levels bloodwork in norm range (thought we'd see high bili, bun or creatinine). I took her for what appeared to be bladder type (stink) infection. Urinalysis showed: Trace Blood -Negative -H, Protein 2+ (Negative-Trace) WBC 50-75 Bacteria marked - treated with a shot for antibiotics and was better in 2 days. She did have a CT scan a couple years back in which a tumor was found in the neck of bladder (not operable) -- I'm hoping it didn't spread but bloodwork doesn't look good. more

Resolved Question: Mystery Symptoms--URGENT!?

My mother is ill right now. At about 6 we went out to dinner to the local hotspot for Greek food, and each of us ordered our usual (both the same thing: σπανάκιπίτα for an appetizer and then shared an order of Σουβλάκι and an order of μουσακάς (spanakopita, souvlaki, and moussaka). At about 7 she had some pain in her back and wasn't feeling so great (she had been having moderate back pain for a few days before, on and off), and at 7:30 she got a warm bath. At about 8:00 she got out of the tub and was suddenly struck with excruciating pain, and at that moment my aunt called (who is conveniently a nurse). My mom told me to tell my aunt to call her on MY cell phone (because she didn't have hers available at the moment, so I gave her mine) and they talked, and my aunt came over to check my mom out. She said that it was NOT appendicitis (she had that out ages ago), but could be pancreatitis, food poisoning, or a small hernia causing the pain. We ruled out food poisoning because we had the exact same thing and shared 2 of the dishes, and I feel perfectly fine (other than being nervous as hell), so that leaves POSSIBLE pancreatitis or a small hernia, or something else. I called my dad (he works nights and won't be home until 5 AM, it's 11:30 PM now) and told him what was going on and called my sister (who goes to college 400 miles away), and both suggested kidney stones. We didn't think about this. My mom's had them before and gets them every 10-15 years, and the last time she had them she had the exact same symptoms, so it's very plausible that it could be kidney stones. I talked to my mom and urged her to go to the hospital (I'm 17, I have had my full driver's license, I can take her), but she has no desire to go to the clinic tonight. Then I told her that if she's still feeling like crap in the morning, I don't care if she wants to go to the doctor or not, I'm going to take her to the clinic and get her checked out, and my dad said the same thing--when he gets home from work she's going with him whether he wants to or not. What could this be? Are these signs of possible kidney stones, or could it be something much much worse? more

Resolved Question: My shihtzu has pancreatitis, but wants to drink water. Should I let him drink if he keeps it down??

He started last thursday night with the symptoms - lethargy, vomiting, etc. He stopped vomiting after 12 hours, and I didn't let him eat or drink anything for another 24 hours. Now, he doesn't vomit, is still very lethargic, but he wants to drink. I have given him small amounts of pedialite and water, but he is panting very heavily (which I understand is a sign of pain). Should I stop? Or continue with only the water??? more

Resolved Question: My dad is dying of alcoholism and I need to help him, how?

He has drank all my life. my mom never knew him not drinking. It's a case a day now for the past 5 years or so. He had a routine physical bout 3 years ago and they said he had the beginning signs of pancreatitis and should quit drinking immediately and come back in 6 months to check if the symptoms and signs improved at all. Since then, his drinking has consistently increased and he has avoided the dr at all costs. He is not the same person at all. He doesn't remember long enough to have a conversation. He is getting senile almost at age of 45. He keeps a steady job and makes good money, he misses days and mornings here and there but makes it enough to stay employed with a state job. the second he gets home though he sucks two down like he's waited all day for that. He won't talk about it with anyone, is in denial and drinks and stays by himself in our family's garage all night long and weekends. I want to commit him through the county to an impatient RX program. Is this possible? more
